River Road Animal Hospital

Why did you tell me I had to take my puppy with a broken foot to ECDR in Wilmington a 48 min drive from Southport? Under Services it says you provide emergency care and can do x-rays and surgical procedures. Apparently that is false advertising. Please remove all the things you don't actually do from Services.

My family has been taking our pet to this business for about 6 years. It's fair to say we put his life in their hands, none of us are vets right? Recently our dog fell ill, he was bought into this facility out of concern as we were unsure of what was going on for him. We were given a bill promptly and he was given two steroid shots. This weekend we had to take our pet to the emergency vet, shocked because we had just taken him to our families trusted vet with a clear bill of health "nothing else was indicated" and now told that he has a mass in his stomach that was found via x-ray.

As you can imagine we were concerned our regular vet didn't perform any such diagnostic testing, however the blame was put on us, we call this facility after finding out our dog, a member of our family, now faced a terminal illness and we were told it was our fault for not stating what we wanted, we are not vets, nor do we have x-ray vision, and we trusted this facility, they were not empathetic, they were not apologetic, after being told our dog may die by another vet this office made us feel even worse.

I do not recommend them at all, do not trust them to diagnose illness in your animal, do not expect them to provide support to you or your pet, do not expect them to act as though they are medical professionals because this experience was anything but therapeutic. Extremely disappointed after being with this facility for so many years. Our family is in anticipatory grieving and this facility was anything but kind. All we wanted was an apology, or a "we'll keep that in mind for the future" but the staff member was rude and hurtful.

I can not thank them enough for taking care of Ziggie Smalls. They made sure she was stable. Making the trip to the emergency vet easier. She is fine and now has a new set of friends at her new vet

Dr Kirby is awesome. Cant even tell our female cat.got spayed. Amazing sutures and surgery. Even the aftercare.was tailored to help Mila out kitty.to relax.be still.sleep.and most importantly heal. Thanks DR. Kirby

Great folks who always call after seeing my pet just to see how he is doing after treatments!

I had an emergency with a bunny who was paralyzed. I was not a client but need assistance. This vet made time. The technician who helped was great. She was understanding and patient. We felt comfortable with our decision and were able to take a few minutes to fully accept the situation. After this experience, I would recommend them to anyone.

Been here 23 years & found that they are the best vets in the area. All staff are focused on your companion, no matter if turtle, bird, dog or cat. Comprehensive testing available & thorough reporting to customers.

The staff and vets at River Road are everything you would hope for! They are kind, warm and friendly and always helpful. Even more important, they are also professional and skilled! We love taking our ferrets and our cats to the vets there because we know they get excellent care and they treat them like beloved, unique pets. As a bonus, they have chickens and a duck that my toddler LOVES to visit!

Zephyr loves going to River Road Animal Hospital! He gets super excited to see the doctors and all of the Vet techs. I don't blame him either because they are always so happy to see him and he gets top notch service! I chose RR because Dr Travis also ownes great danes and I wanted a doctor who knew the needs of the breed. I keep going because of the wonderful service by Dr Travis, Dr Derby and the team. He absolutely loves it there and I appreciate the expert advise and time that is given to me at every single visit.

This was my first time taking our dog to River Road Animal Hospital. Everyone was very friendly, professional and willing to answer any questions. They took great care to give her a thorough exam and were very kind and loving towards her. With the changes in routine that had to be made due to the requirements for Covid it's made things different for everyone, but the staff has done a great job making things flow smoothly. I would highly recommend this practice.

We recently moved to near Southport and were really happy with our friends recommending River Road Animal Hospital. Everyone has been so friendly and our dogs are obviously well taken care of.

I brought my 10 year old Dobe for her checkup and to discuss some weird behaviors that I thought had to do with increased anxiety. Dr. Derby examined her thoroughly and discovered a new painful back and then suspected and confirmed an UTI. My dog has been on antibiotics and pain meds for 3 days and the symptoms have all but disappeared. Hooray and thank you to Dr. Derby for the win!

The friendly and welcoming staff makes you feel comfortable from the minute you walk into the office. Dr. Travis was so nice and caring and explained all of my options in the care of my senior dog. It was a really nice experience and Max loved it too!
