Our family oriented training classes encourage the participation of ALL family members. We believe that a good companion dog needs to be responsive to everyone in the family, not just one person. We teach useful life skills which enable dogs and their families to have more fun together! We offer "Continuing Education" opportunities with our Competition Class, as well as ongoing Rally and Introduction to Agility. The prerequisites for participation in these groups are satisfactory completion of both the Beginner and Advanced level classes.
Services
Puppy Pre School is a 4 week program designed to cover as many different aspects of raising a puppy as possible. We cover jumping, barking, biting, chewing, housetraining, crate training, handling and restraint, leash walking and come when called. Our advanced class fine tunes the handler end of the leash, it does require successful completion of the Beginner Family Dog class.
There are many different types of collars and training devices available for use, we will discuss the choices that we recommend and use at DOGTRAIN. Our ultimate goal is a dog that is responsive to commands given on or off the leash. Any training collar should be looked at as a form of "training wheels".

Can't say enough good things about Dogtrain! Diane is knowledgeable about dogs, dog training, dog personalities & behaviors. She is very straightforward with humans, which I personally like, and has a good sense of humor. Classes are well run, dogs & owners learn a lot, and many of us have a few laughs along the way. Every owner & dog in both of my classes made significant progress.

I attended a 3-day clinic called Movement Markers, hosted by Dogtrain's owner, Diane Gallagher and presented by Maryna Ozuna. The facility and staff was comfortable and supportive of both humans and our dogs. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience in "all things dog" at Dogtrain! I highly recommend it!

This was our 1st lesson with our puppy Cruella but I think it went very well. Cruella was taught about 5 new things. Great instructor and assistant.

I cannot personally recommend this team for a few reasons. As a quirky person myself, I def. appreciate characters. But professionalism and a "focus" on education cannot be disregarded. Courtesy is also a big one oft disregarded by the team. Although we can all agree that a businesses #1 goal is to make money, constantly pushing "more training. more sessions. more accessories" without even having a goal behind it gets a bit insulting, especially in these times.

We live about 40 min. away from the facility personally. Over the last 6 months, we've made no less than 4 trips to the center and had it either A)Closed with no phone updates available (as the phone is seldom answered even as a last ditch grasp for updates) and no social media (FB page) updates. Merely a note on the door leaving anyone hoping to use tech to stay informed in the dark or B)Changed our access with no updates or notice, leaving us in limbo. Having gone through a number of classes and countless play sessions, the value was OK.

I believe the training was fairly generic and standard. I did NOT like how some of the dogs were treated in a hypocritical manner at times in training/pup play that we were advised against ourselves (yelling at them, being physical beyond what we ourselves were instructed, etc.) during "owner training", if that makes sense. The play session is great. but be prepared to spend half the time having your dogs stopped by other pup owners, numerous with poor etiquette. stopping the dogs from playing to allow late access/mess clean up from an owner who did not walk them ahead of time anywhere from 5-20 times over the 45 min. session (which isn't very long).

Because money is the prime motivator, you will need to take any number of classes to access the play class, unlike most operators or day care facilities. I do see numerous methodologies for this in good faith. Money is surely theirs however. This is simply my personal experience, and the facts why. Thanks much!

Absolutely Amazing, this place knows dogs! They might seem a little rough around the edges at first, but, magic happens after the first class. Best price in town, and very good you can tell she's been doing it for a long while! She is Wilmington's very own dog whisperer!

Diane and her team are so helpful in educating their clients in everything you need to know to start a successful relationship with your pup! I'm looking forward to the next level training! Highly recommend!

Absolutely phenomenal! We regret not signing up sooner. If you need dog training of any kind - look no further! Diane is incredibly knowledgeable and tells it how it is. She is straight forward (but is still kind and even tells a few fun stories :)) which is exactly what is needed for a well-trained, obedient dog! The facility is well maintained, clean, and they're very organized. We're already looking forward to signing our pup up for more!

Diane knows her stuff and is an excellent teacher of dogs AND their people! Layla is a handful, but I'm using what I learned at Dogtrain to help her become well mannered and respectful.

Awesome experience with my fur baby! I adopted him at 9 months and he needed A LOT of work. Not only did we receive specific in class help, but all of my questions were answering before and after class, as well as when I just popped by. Diane was NEVER rude or abusive with dog. She is direct and attentive. I look forward to going back.

Owner knows a lot about dogs, but she tends to be rude, go and spend your money somewhere else

If you can't take constructive criticism then don't bother. What I have learned so far is that the training seems to be more about training the owner than the dog, which is a good thing. My dog and I have been through the beginner class and are now starting on the advanced class. My dog has become one of the most well behaved 9 month old labs around.

I can take him anywhere and I am constantly asked if he is a service dog, which he is not, because he is so well behaved. Diane can be harsh, if you want to call it that, but it is really just her calling people out for their own mistakes. Some people seem to be easily offended by that nowadays. Well to sum it up, if you can take the heat and want a well trained dog then this is the place to go.

Diane and her staff are wonderfully knowledgeable and do a great job training humans to train their dogs! Diane's wit and humor makes the class enjoyable, and her no fluff approach to teaching allows you to get down to business and get the most out of your training classes. We completed three rounds of classes with our wild lab pup, and we could not have survived these 7 months of puppy ownership without the help from Diane! She truly knows what she is doing and does it well.

Diane is the best dog trainer ever! If you want a well behaved puppy/dog please join her classes. Our 3 month old puppy comes, sits, doesn't bark when told "Quiet" I could go on and on about this trainer. She has a great sense of humor and we highly recommend her to everyone

My husband and I were beginning to think we were in way over our heads with our new Rottweiler puppy. She was going through a "shark" phase, biting our hands and ankles and growling like a demon! Out vet recommended Dog Train and with a little apprehension, we signed her up for a "Puppy Class." We thought the dog needed to be trained. Boy, were we wrong! Diane Gallagher opened our eyes to what we were doing wrong and showed us how to encourage the best behavior out of our pup.

After "we" were properly trained in how to train and encourage our puppy, we have one of the best behaved, socially acceptable dog in in town! I can honestly say that Diane transformed our lives by teaching us how to be firm consistent dog owners. She is blunt - so don't expect anything to be sugar-coated, but her love for dogs (and their owners) shines through.

We went from being on the verge to giving our strong-willed puppy back to the breeder, to being proud parents of an adorable, well behaved girl that we wouldn't give a million dollars for! Thanks to Diane and her staff at Dog Train.

Over the last 15 years I have taken every dog that I have owned, and also my rescue dogs, to Dog Train. Diane is the best trainer that I have personally ever worked with. She has achieved skills with my self and my dogs that I could have never achieve with any other trainer. I personally had the #1 obedience Great Dane in the country, and the #2 Clumber Spaniel obedience dog in competition in the country also.

She has given me the opportunity to be able to train any dog, in any expectation that I want out of my dogs. Her expertise is beyond anyone else anywhere. You will be more than thrilled with what you and your dog learns from Diane @ Dog Train. Call her today to help fix what no one else can.

I've been working with Diane and my mini-dachshund for years. She's a top-notch trainer that sets high standards for her clients, both human and canine. Diane loves dogs and it shows. When people spoil their animals by failing to teach them how to behave around other dogs and people, she calls them on the issues. She works with rescues, people of all skill levels and helps them to understand how to work with their dog.

In fact, when we started with her, she was quick to intervene because we were too harshly correcting our puppy. (Dachshunds can be amazingly stubborn.) Her training means that I have an amazingly well-behaved dog that I can take out in public and know that he will behave with children, elderly, and other dogs. I have recommended her to anyone I know with a dog.

Terrible! Stay away! Borderline abusive to my puppy. Do yourself a favor a forget about this place. And no I am not some bleeding heart person who doesn't understand what it takes to train a dog but it doesn't take her methods! Would give no stars if I could. Google other reviews for her you will see others. Just terrible!

Best dog trainer in Wilmington. Diane has a no nonsense attitude that may not sit well with some people and account for some of the bad reviews, but if you what to learn how to handle your dog she is the best. Not to say the training is not fun because it is. Diane has great humor although I think it may not be understood by all. She uses proven time tested methods that work. Diane is the alpha dog and it is a trait that is picked up by both the dogs and humans. I watched another training group and it was a joke compared to Diane. I am sure their are other good dog trainers around but I would only recommend Dog Train to my friends.

I loved my experience at DOGTRAIN while I was there. I started when Harley my Chihuahua was just a puppy and was able to complete up through level 3 before I moved. I was extremely pleased with the outcome while training with Diane. I loved that she focused more on the owners then the dog (owners are usually the roots of the issues anyways, not the dog).

She trained you so you can better work with your dog. Her puppy class was the best to prepare your pup for the rest of his life. She covered so many important things most dog owners overlook or do not know to to. As for the use of the e-collars (or uneducated people will refer to them as shock collars.) they are an amazing tool. Harley gets ecstatic when he sees his e-collar cause he knows he gets to go have fun.

All tools we use with our dogs are only as harsh as the hands that use them. Your average collar can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Bottom line is Diane is great at what she does but come prepared to learn and not to "baby" your dog. She establishes you as the leader and that is the way it should be.

I would stay as far away from DOGTRAIN as possible. The woman who owns this outfit is named Diane. Diane is not only the owner but the lead trainer and she's one of the rudest people I've ever met. Diane has little patience with her human clients and actually degrades them in front of the entire class. My wife and I were floored by the way she spoke to us (along with all of her other paying customers) during our session.

Over and over again throughout the hour long sessions we were belittled and made to feel as if we were idiots. My wife and I are not stupid people, we are both college graduates and don't enjoy being treated like children by some silly dog-trainer. So to sum up. If you like to be talked down to by a mediocre dog trainer with absolutely no people skills, DOGTRAIN is for you!
