It's our MORE TO LOVE adoption special! We are FULL and WE NEED LOVING ADOPTERS! While supplies last, you can adopt adult dogs (over 6 months of age) and adult cats (over 5 months of age) at HSHV for 50% OFF! AND small mammal adoptions are FREE! Remember: adoption fees. Wording is often a real challenge. Here are some prompts that may help you plan what to say to your children and/or children in your life. Remember that there are rarely "the right words" and that planning ahead, though difficult, may help you feel more prepared to discuss pet loss.

Services
For more than 125 years, the Humane Society of Huron Valley has been serving the community, saving animals and helping people. HSHV is still the only animal shelter in Washtenaw County, taking in all types of unwanted, injured, lost, stray, abandoned, and abused animals. Today, we help over 24,000 animals and their people through our array of services every year.
Some animals need extra help to find their new homes, or they come from special situations. Sometimes a dog needs a little more training, or a cat is happier in a barn than a house. Maybe the animal has a medical condition that will require ongoing care, or a pair of bonded pets need a home together.
Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge you need to adopt while making the process a positive experience, so here are some things to know. Please know: some animals have special requirements. Of course, people have requirements, too! That's why we'll ask that you complete an application prior to meeting the animals, so that we can help you match up better.
Thanks to successful intake prevention programs and community support for adoption, along with grants and wonderful donors, HSHV is able to transport animals - often puppies! Thank you for considering adopting and saving a life! Once you're in the virtual queue, you can see your place in line, and we'll also notify you when it's your turn to visit the puppies that day.

The place is pretty clean and neat. It's also nice how everything is sectioned off. Some of the staff were a little bit harsh though. I broke some rules unknowingly(I thought after we got a staff member to help us look at an animal, we could continue to look at other animals unaided. I was also not made aware the first animal I looked at that we are only allowed to look at 3 animals) and I felt like the staff got angry with me.
I apologized for breaking the rules. It felt like they were watching me and whispering to each other about me. I felt very uncomfortable after awhile so I took pictures of the cats I was interested in, got a little more info about them at the front desk, and left. I have about four cats and kittens in mind that I wanted to continue seeing and interacting with at a later date once everyone was seen by a vet, but I don't think I'll be back. I've never had this experience before.

The staff and volunteers of HSHV provide exemplary kind and compassionate care for any animal who comes into the shelter. Adoptions are carefully managed to ensure good matches that will last for the animal's lifetime. The services available at the shelter to support adoptions are affordable and the physical plant is as close to immaculate as a shelter can be. If you are looking to adopt an animal into your family, this is the place to come to first.

I love the location and it's super affordable it's really clean and the staff is wonderful unfortunately my dog is super angry at the vet and nobody could understand when I was telling them he would need to be sedated before going in there. Obviously the dog doesn't like the vet which is the reason I accompany the dog to the vet I understand the COVID-19 protocols.
I thought they could handle it. But they definitely couldn't. Even when I was there in person supervising They had great difficulty. I wish they went back to normal I miss the old days when I can get my dog the care he needs.

1hr drive to get to the facility for me but very well worth it! The facility is very nice and clean. Staff very friendly and informative. Dogs all seem to be well cared for. They have a little walking park out back that allowed us to walk and visit with our perspective new family member. I am so happy that we got our sweet girl here! They stay in contact and give tips and apps to help assist in the care of our new pup! I would definitely recommend getting your next pet here!

Humane Society is claiming to be Fear Free Certified but clearly doesn't practice it. Here is Badge 108 who works for the Animal Control Unit. Please ask them why this person continues to work for them as they are not doing what they are trained to. I'm more disturbed that other people who are also trained just stood there and let it happen.

We adopted the newest member of our family a couple of days ago. From the time we walked in the door to the time we walked out with her it was an excellent experience. The staff are all welcoming, attentive, and very helpful. The facility was very clean and all the animals were obviously well taken care of. The adoption process was very easy and went smoothly.
They manage to make the process quick while still making sure animals are being adopted by the right humans. They are good at what they do. We couldn't be happier with the HSHV or with our newest addition to the family.

Had an excellent experience with HSHV. The staff was very friendly and informative. The kennels are kept clean and there's no smell. We adopted a Lab Retriever mix from the Love Train. Her name was Psi and we changed it to Daisy. We've had her about 3 days and she's a smart cookie for only 2 months old. Daisy knew her pottie pad the first night we got her. I wanted another lab because I had to put my 15 year old lab down in 2020. She was amazing! Labs are very loving loyal dogs.
