Services
The Houston Humane Society has a professional veterinarian staff that can administer a variety of medical services to your dog. From vaccinations to microchipping to amputations and surgery, our vets have you and your dog covered for a low cost. If your dog is ill or you have any concerns about his or her health, you can turn to our clinic for helpful exams and a thorough diagnosis that won't drain your wallet.
The Houston Humane Society experiences the daily consequences of pets not being sterilized by receiving hundreds of unwanted pets and litters a year. However, we are also aware that finances, especially now during a pandemic, prevent pet owners from spaying/neutering their pets and providing basic pet health care needs.
The Houston Humane Society launched the New Home, New Start program last year ahead of the Winter Storm Uri. This program has helped hundreds of pets stay warm and healthy by offering free insulated dog houses to families who can't afford a safe place for their pets. Through this program, we also offer enrichment and educational resources to help pets stay safe and healthy.

Wonderful facility! I had my newly adopted poodle neutered and microchipped here, vaccines of course also. They did a really good job and everyone was very friendly and helpful. It was clean and not a long wait at all. They are doing a great job in the community and if you can donate to this place it doesn't have to be money, you can drop off dog or cat food, blankets, cages, toys, bowls.
Anything you could use at home they will take as a donation and anything helps. These guys are caring for so many animals and even one item helps. Do your good dead for the day and donate to a local shelter, you will feel good knowing you've actually helped make a difference! Also, check out your local shelter before you buy from a breeder or pet store when looking for a new pet.
You may be surprised at who you find there. I've adopted 3 animals in the past year, I also bought one very over priced boxer puppy from a local store and if I didn't love the dog so much Id say it's one of my biggest mistakes. Anyhow, check out your local shelter, donate what you can and good luck to whoever is reading with your future ventures!

I took my dog to get spayed and have an dental done because she did have an abscess under her eye due to a dental infection, and everything went great until two weeks later my dog still has the same problem with her abscess and I'm really concerned for her, but they want to charge me for normal post surgery follow-up visit even tho I payed $418 for everything.
I think they care more about making money rather then taking care of their patients. Not even I get charged for follow-up appointments at the clinic because it's included in the price of surgery. Customer service was great they were understanding and did what they could, but I did pay a whole lot of money to help my dog get better, and they can't do a simple follow-up without charging more money. It's not even about the money, it's about principle.

I fostered for my first time with them, took a mama and her 5 pups. The facility is great and BreeAna was a pleasure to work with! She got me set up with all supplies I needed. I ended up adopting the mama! (Wish I could keep the babies too ) Very smooth process all around and I hope to foster/volunteer with them in the future!

I don't usually leave reviews but I'm so glad to find my new baby at Houston Humane Society. Staffs and volunteers all went above and beyond to take care of our needs. Our puppy was still little when we adopted her and we needed to wait for another week for her to get spayed before we could pick her up. I called multiple times to check on her situation and to make sure when we could go pick her up, the staffs are all so understanding and patient with me.
The environment is one of the cleanest and most comfy places for animals that I've seen. We can tell the animals there are all well taken care of and loved. The community is so lucky to have y'all.

This place is AMAZING! The online application process was super easy. I was put on a wait list for discounted/free services for my cat (we are a low income household). Once, I was emailed to set up an appointment, the process went exactly as they tell you it will. We dropped our sweet cat, The Big Lebowski off at 8a.m. and picked him up at 4:30p.m. that evening.
He was doing wonderfully and we brought him home, zero complications. It's been a week since and he's back to normal, but still wearing the e-collar until he's fully healed. The staff is absolutely wonderful and they deserve the highest of praises for their kindness and the work they do! Spay and neuter your pets! This place gives you zero reasons not to.

They have a new system that went into place this week. They are greatly understaffed. Even so, the employees were attentive and kind. The animals were well cared for and a priority for those who tend to them. The front desk staff managed the lobby very well and I left with the most amazing and perfect dog. She is everything we were looking for on a companion.

Took my dog and cat to get spayed and neutered today. Although they were very busy they still serviced me in a timely manner. When I picked up my pets, I was told they did great and was given the information I needed. So far they've been great and I noticed they even trimmed my pet's nails however I did notice that my cat's nails were trimmed too short.
Two of her nails were bloodied and very short. I was worried she had torn her stitches and touched her stomach but upon close inspection I realized the blood was from her nails. She doesn't seem to be in pain thanks to the pain medication they gave her but I am disappointed that she was carelessly taken care of. I can understand that the vets are extremely busy with many surgeries but if you're already taking the time to trim their nails then you should be more careful in doing so.
I've personally never cut them too short nor have I had this happen before with a vet. My dog's nails were fine so I know the vets can be careful. Leaving this review as a reminder to the vets and assistants to be more careful in the future.

This review is in response to Nurse Dash. It was clear that Nurse Dash was distraught and needed assistance. Nurse Dash is a canine mom, a nurse, and Sampson is her child. In these challenging times with COVID and just daily living, it would not have hurt that worker to give her privacy, sit her down show her sympathy and offer her some compassion, guidance. Eventually, the worker could have found out what was going on with Nurse Dash.
Perhaps there was another solution to solve her problem and she would not have released Sampson to that worker. She should have been given respite care for Sampson, which is what would be done for a human child's parent. Sampson is part of her family and Nurse Dash needs her child back and I am positive that Sampson misses his mom and wants to return to his home. Allegedly, it appears as though this worker purloin her beautiful, adorable Sampson.
Because couple days later she went back to Houston Humane Society for Sampson, and she was told he was adopted. That was not sufficient time for him to be assessed, verify his records, put through the system for adoption. This sounds suspicious to me. Nurse Dash, I do hope an investigation is at play. I know Houston Humane Society do amazing things for families; this was a tragic flute. I am so sorry this happen to you. May the Gods be with you. I just don't know how to rate this review.
