Services
Experience counts in veterinary medicine. Dr. Ott has had a successful small animal practice for over 50 years. We have over 100 years combined experience with our veterinarians Dr. Ott, Dr. Waldy, Dr. Heaton & Dr. Langston. All of our support staff has regular on-site training and also receives continuing education off-site.
Annual dental exams and cleanings are recommended to protect your pet from many health problems and help them maintain a healthy and clean mouth. Proper diet and nutrition can help your pet fight against disease, maintain a proper weight, and promote the overall well-being of your pet. Annual wellness exams evaluate your pets overall health, detect problems before they become serious, and keep them on track to live a long, healthy life.
We are open 60 hours a week, but unfortunately emergencies occur when we are closed on nights or weekends. After hours, our office phone calls are forwarded to the Brandon Blue Pearl Veterinary Specialists. Their practice is also staffed with professionals who specialize in emergency & critical care.
Ruskin Animal Hospital is pleased to provide you with a variety of forms that can simplify the process of caring for your pet. Scratchpay offers simple, friendly payment plans. Checking your rate does not affect your credit. CareCredit is a line of credit which can be used to pay for your pet's veterinary procedures.

My first visit to this clinic was a little bit chaotic with a longer than expected wait but it was so worth it! Absolutely adore Vet Tech Toni who apologized for my wait and explained that it was not the norm but rather due to having one of the exam rooms being remodeled leaving them short on space. Toni was very thorough and organized and made me know my pups were in good hands! Dr. Catalina is such an asset to this practice with all of her experience. For the first time since relocating to AB, I feel like I've found my Vet!

I have been going to Ruskin Animal Hospital for almost 4 years now and they are THE BEST. Everyone on the staff is wonderful and Dr. Heaton is phenomenal. He just did a teeth cleaning for my 13 year old Pomeranian yesterday. I was nervous about the procedure but they made me feel assured that everything would go great and it did and no extractions were necessary! After a day of rest yesterday, my dog is back to normal today and no more bad breath. I would recommend them to anyone.

Run far away. This place is just a money grab. They can't treat basic things and constantly charge an insane amount of money. Ive never had to get a dog as many vaccinations as i had with this hospital and I've always owned dogs. There's always something wrong or Always a reason to come back. Ive dumped so much money into this place and for what?! Save yourself the stress and money and go anywhere else.

I have tried twice to get an appointment in 2022. Each time they are at least 3 weeks out. I have been bringing cats there since 1985. I believe their empathy left when Dr Ott sold the practice to National Veterinary Associates Inc in California. I called and e mailed records, they advised they couldn't make appointment until they had records and they would call back.
They never called back, I had to call them. Each time I have spoken to someone there, they didn't care if I could wait that long for an appointment or not. Would not provide Thyroid medication unless they see the cat first, even though I have all records, but can not get in to see them. They made absolutely no effort what so ever to say they could call if they had a cancellation, etc. It seems like they don't care anymore. Business must be good.

We took our 8 week old puppy in for an exam as we had just picked him up. There was no wait, and the reception and technicians were prompt and gracious. Dr Catalina was personable and answered all my questions. We received a follow up call the next day to check on the pup as we had a chip implanted. We highly recommend Ruskin Animal Hospital!

I don't have enough words to express how disappointed I am with the services received. I Took my puppy for her initial doctors visit here on Tuesday January 11,2022. In the process they asked me if I wanted them to clean her Botox area as she had some residue (Normal for hairy dog) I told them yes you can "trim it". They instead shaved her (SHE IS ONLY A PUPPY!) and cut her way too much to the point that now she feel so uncomfortable to sit and even move around.
In opinion they should stick to addressing medical concerns and leave the grooming to real professionals. Other than that the Vetenerian was very caring and understanding along with front desk staff. I have 1 more dog who is a patient of this location and never had such unpleasant experience. Update** Whitney, she had us come in the next day to address concerns with Provider. Even she was speechless but was able to evaluate my puppy and prescribe something to relief the affected area.

My husband took our Doxie in because of sudden weakness in his hips and legs. The front desk got us in right away with Dr Waldy. He was very compassionate and understood our concern. X-rays were taken and his spine seemed ok. Dr Waldy is having a radiologist look at the X-rays to make certain of it. Our regular doctor is Dr Heaton but everyone of the doctors there are the best. We have taken our pets there for over 8 years and will never go anywhere else.

You tell them you no longer have your pets and they continually call, email, send post cards to update yearly shots, etc. The front desk employees switch out so often that they really have no idea what is going on. EXPENSIVE compared to other Vet.'s, and they have you come back multiple times for something that was over and done with a few appointments ago. Purchasing Frontline, Nexguard, etc. here is also EXPENSIVE, and they will not give your a prescription so you can go elsewhere. They try to siphon all the money out of you that they can in various ways.

Dr. Ott has taken care of my Cairn Terrier when I am in Florida for several years and she really hasn't had many problems, except for a constant infection in her right eye the last couple of years that goes away with drops but returns a month after the drops run out. Anyway I'm going to start taking my new boxer mix, Marley as well as my Cairn, Bonnie in the New Year for their shots and new tags and hopefully they can get rid of her eys infection or give me refills so I don't have to go every other month.
I lov e her but I know what the problem is but they won't give me the antibiotic drops without a script. The biggest problem I have with all vets as well as Physicians is if you purchase the pet care product from them, they raise the price 2 or 3 times what I could get the exact same medicine for online. I love my pets, however I would go much more often if I were not fleeced on their medications.
I have to go through a family members of friends in N.J. whose relative is a vetsimply to get the prescription filled for 25$,r ather than 125 for a condition that is chronic and I check 4 times a week for it to return

I've been taking my dogs here for years. What started me going here was the fact that they own a dog park (free of charge - Ott's Off-Leash Sanctuary) and a no-kill shelter C.A.R.E. (Critter Adoption & Rescue Effort) both located in Ruskin. I figured, WOW, I've never heard of a vet's office doing this.most I have gone to were mostly interested in getting as much money as possible out of me and I usually never felt like they had my dog's best interest at heart.
I had to send my elderly greyhound Bridget across the rainbow bridge yesterday due to bone cancer. Dr. Waldy made a difficult decision much easier by telling me I was doing the humane thing because she was suffering. He didn't try to sell me on amputation that would probably only result in her other front leg breaking due to the added weight stress or having the cancer spread into her lungs.
She was already mildly sedated from having her x-rays. I knew it was the right time. I felt that he was caring and concerned about Bridget's important needs and had her best interests at heart. I greatly appreciate that. Of course, I stayed until the very end like I hope all pet parents would do. The entire good-bye process was caring and dignified and had my wonderful Bridget's best interest as the most important thing.just the way it should be when you take your voiceless beloved to the doctor. Thank you Dr. Waldy & staff.

What a great experience the vet, tech, and staff, were absolutely wonderful to us and are little baby. And called the following day to see how he was doing. I was also pleased how reasonable the cost was. Its really hard today to find a good vet you can afford. But boy did we get lucky, we found one.happy happy happy! Yes I will be recommending this place for sure. Thank you again.

I took my German Rottweiler here for some chewy/ edible once a month flea medication. The staff were all great, very friendly and helpful, and knowledgeable, and you could tell everyone working there loves animals. We met with Dr Greg Heaton, DVM, graduate of Indiana's Purdue University, and he was a nice guy, knew what he was talking about and everything went as well and like expected.

I am very pleased with this office. My dog sees Dr. Waldy, who is not only highly experienced, but truly caring as well. He recently took the time out of his day to have a phone consultation with me about my dog not eating. The rest of the staff is very kind and friendly as well, and the place office is clean and professional. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for an experienced, honest, and caring veterinarian office.

I had to go out of town and this time, Cinnamon had to stay home. I decided to take her to this clinic to spend the night. We did a one night stay about a week before I was leaving town just so Cinnamon would know that I'm coming back for her. She did great. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I really feel like I trust them and I know that Cinnamon is in good hands if I need to travel for business.
Week 2. I have to travel for work but this time, I'll be gone 3 days. I hate leaving Cinnamon but I know she'll be safe. I got back to pick her up after 3 days and I know the staff at Ruskin Animal Hospital really care and gave her lots of love. I will definitely use this doggy retreat in the future when I must travel for work. It's a great place and took great care of my baby! Highly recommend.

In February of 2015, my husband & I were vacationing in the Ruskin area. One of our Maltese dogs became ill. I called the hospital and they made room in the schedule to see us. The techs, reception staff and veterinarian we met were absolutely top notch. I would highly recommend this animal hospital to anyone looking for the best pet care available.

Dr. Langston is very calm and caring veterinarian. My dog had a mastectomy and he did a great job on treating my baby dog. I know Ruskin Animal Hospital is a busy hospital but he never get frustrated or annoyed even though we asked a lot of questions. Also, we never waited more than 10 minutes to see him unlike Fox and Friends Animal Hospital sometimes you have to wait more than a hour!
I know mastectomy is a big surgery and my dog needed a lot of attention and Dr. Langston was always there for us. Price of the surgery was reasonable too. I highly recommend Dr. Langton to other people who are looking for a good and caring veterinarian. BUT, their front office receptionists and manager were little rude and not that friendly.

I witnessed a very sad situation today in this clinic. While I was in the waiting room, a young man came in who was very, very upset. He explained that his dog had been bitten by another animal, her leg was bleeding, and she was in intense pain. He asked them to please help his dog because he was afraid that she was going to die. He explained that he had just bought a home and could not pay for their services.
The assistants at the front desk told him that there was absolutely nothing they could do for his dog unless he was able to pay for their services. He pleaded with them to no avail. These are supposed to be people who love animals, and yet they showed absolutely no compassion. I have two dogs and four cats. I will be finding a new animal hospital for all of them!

I was extremely pleased with this clinic. My dog developed an ear infection, and Dr. Waldy and his staff were able to provide us with a same day appointment on a Monday (the day after Christmas, when many other businesses were closed!). The doctor didn't suggest anything unnecessary, and the vet tech was extremely kind. My very high-strung Boston terrier was even calm in her presence, and didn't cry when she took her blood.
All in all, I was able to have my dog's ear infection treated, annual vaccinations caught up, and a 6-month supply of Sentinel for $280. The office is clean, and the staff from the receptionist who made the appointment and greeted us at the door to the vet tech to the doctor, were wonderful. The prices were VERY reasonable. I will definitely continue to use the services of this office.
