Services
Mid North Animal Hospital has been proudly serving the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL since 1973. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have been trusted to care for our community's pets, and are committed to provide the highest quality veterinary care possible throughout your companion's lifetime.
Our goal is to provide not only diagnostic and preventive health care, but also education for pet owners. We take the time to listen to your concerns and ideas when developing your pet's health plan or treating illness. Few things are as important to your dog or cat's overall health than healthy teeth and gums.
Keeping your pet's teeth in good condition is important to his or her overall health. Because dogs and cats use their mouths for eating, playing, exploring, and getting your attention, many will have some type of dental problem even early in life. Untreated dental problems can lead to kidney, heart, and liver disease.
Radiographs are a useful tool our doctors use to examine your pet's internal organs, bones, or joints and to visualize any abnormalities. All of our x-rays are digital which provides us with high quality images that our doctors can look at immediately after being taken. All x-rays are then reviewed by a board certified radiologist.

I don't really write reviews much but I had to write this one. Dr. Egan and the staff at Mid North are honestly the best. I have an elderly Westie Poo, and they care for him like he is their own. I actually think he likes Dr. Egan better than me. I trust Mid North implicitly, and my best friend receives the best care. Thanks to everyone at Mid North and especially Dr. Egan.

I am new to Chicago and needed a new vet. Someone that deals with a lot of rescue dogs recommended this vet to me. It was easy enough to get an appointment. Prior to booking my appointment I did not know it was curbside service. Unsure how I feel about this long term but good for safety during Pandemic. My dog was a little hesitant to go with the Vet Tech but she was gentle and he went.
Probably wouldn't work well for a traumatized pet. My visit was easy enough. My prior vet was able to send his records over. There was a hiccup with this at first but the doctor took the time to review before Jace came in for his appointment. Appointment was probably a little less than an hour. The doctor (Dr. Gonnering) called mid-point to ask about some additional procedures.
After Jace was done, she called again with preliminary results. The vet tech called after the doctor (Dr. Gonnering) and I was able to checkout over the phone. I was sticker shocked by the cost. His visit was 660.00 bucks without a rabbies shot. The most expensive items was the Senior Wellness exam/labs $330.00 plus $75 new client fee. I will say the wellness labs were very thorough and provided some insight into my dog.
I am not sure that I will continue to pay for this item every year as my dogs is 11 years old and kinda is what it is. Love my dog and will continue to get him good care but those labs were similar to human but paid out of pocket and not with insurance. Most humans can't get that thorough of the test. After Jace's appointment, another Doctor emailed with results. Dr. Eagan was very responsive over email and answered all my questions.
After another week, the Vet Tech also followed up with an email and I liked this concierge service that they provide. Additionally, they provided options for a Cardiologist for my dogs small heart murmur. Overall, happy with this vet. Will continue service with this pet hospital. They seems compassionate, caring and knowledgeable. If price is a concern, definitely check with them the current prices before booking. I am not sure if I would of chose those this hospital has I known the price tag.

Mid North Animal Hospital - Dr. Egan and team are great! We absolutely love everything about them! Even during a pandemic and COVID protocols, they provide the absolute best care, and I feel that Theodore is in great hands even if I can't go into the exam room with him. The fact that I can call or text them and they are extremely knowledgeable is so comforting. Miriam is one of the friendliest, and always makes you feel like your issue is top priority with how promptly she takes care of everything. Thank you!

My dog stole and ate half a chicken and was barffing up chicken bones. We just moved to Chicago and another dog owner kindly recommended this vet so I called and hope to get my dog checked. The vet on the phone told me it's an emergency and URGED me to get my dog checked BUT also claimed "we are not accepting new clients". How ironic and cruel! Can you believe in a vet if she/he reject to make a little bit of time to see an animal in need of urgent care? I don't and you shouldn't.

Recently took my new puppy here for her first vet visit. She loved the staff at Mid North and everyone was extremely helpful. As I'm sure any new puppy owner can relate - I had many many questions for the vet. She was extremely thorough in her response to each and every question, and made sure that all of my questions and concerns were addressed. During COVID times, pet owners are generally not allowed to enter the vet's office. A nice perk at Mid North is that you're able to view a majority of your pet's appointment through the office windows. I would highly recommend Mid North.

As a new pet owner, it is very worrisome when your furry friend has to be taken into the vet. However, Mid North makes you feel taken care of immediately. Their staff, especially Miriam and Dr. Egan, are so kind, calming and helpful. They were able to take my kitten, Santino, same day and took care of my concerns. I am so happy to have found a vet as helpful and kind as them.

I have had my 2 cats about 6 months. I adopted through Feline Friends of Chicago and this is the vet office they recommend and I have continued going here after completing my adoption. I have only had good experiences with this office. I have vaccinated, spayed, and had urgent care at this facility and would recommend to anyone looking for a reliable doctor for their fur kids. Miriam at the front desk is so responsive and thoughtful answering my questions (email, phone calls, etc.).
It is nice to have someone so informed and kind on the front line of the business. I haven't had much direct contact with the vet because of Covid, but I appreciate their caution in this area, and that my cats always are returned in good condition with a clear diagnosis and medication needed each visit. I also appreciate that when I send photos over email, they are quick to tell me if I need to come in or can wait to see if things recover on their own. It saves me a visit and gives me peace of mind - I am unsure if this "email/telemedicine" is only a Covid only thing, but it has been wonderful so far.

I have been a customer at Mid North Animal Hospital since 2012 when I adopted my 2 kitties, Dublin and Rory from Feline Friends. Since day 1 all those years ago, the doctors and staff at Mid North have been nothing but kind, affectionate, and welcoming to both myself and my fur babies. On 12/5/2020, I experienced one of the hardest days of my adult life when I unexpectedly said goodbye to my Rory, due to advanced lymphoma.
During normal times, that would be tough. During COVID times, it was almost unbearable. But - Dr. Schnoor and Miriam (the office manager) really made the situation as positive as it could have been. Fast forward 1 week when I received a sweet note that they had made a donation in Rory's honor -- Then another 2 weeks later (today) when I got a card from the staff expressing their sympathies. (Parker, Paige, Maria, Clay, Sean, Dr Egan, and anyone else I may be forgetting but who signed, THANK YOU) This may be something other animal hospitals do, or a courtesy that is 'normal' - but, for me, the person who was and is grieving, this was exceptional and anything but normal.
I will promote folks enlisting Mid North for all their pet related needs and I will sing their praises as long as they let me because my gratitude for their compassion during this extremely rough time has made all the difference for me. Thank you MNAH

Brought my sick kitty Meekus to see Dr. Egan today for the first time. Mid North was able to get me in right away due to a cancellation which was really convenient. More importantly, Dr. Egan was great! She clarified a lot of confusing things I'd been dealing with regarding my cats diabetic diagnosis. She recommended a clear plan which sadly involved hospitalization.
That being said, she was an advocate and helped me immensely in talking to the vet hospital and managing costs. My cat is not out of the woods but the visit with Dr. Egan was truly the bright spot in all this. Considering permanently transferring all my vet care to her. She's that good!

Dr. Schnoor and her team were warm, welcoming and very accommodating from the moment my dog and I walked in the front door! Having recently relocated from Manhattan, the front desk team was quick to respond to our online request and scheduled a same day appointment. Our family is beyond grateful for the thorough and efficient manner that she and her team take care of their patients. Thank you!

I came to Mid North because they are the vets who work with Feline Friends, the organization from which I rescued my baby kitten, Fiona (Fifi). Fifi was so tiny when I adopted her after she was abandoned at the pound that they couldn't spay her prior to her coming home with me in July. By the time she was ready in September, based on her energy, attitude, and major, major growth spurt, we all figured this would be an uneventful, routine procedure.
It turned out Fifi had an abnormally high liver enzyme in her pre-surgery labs the first time, and again, the second attempt, a few weeks later. Rather than just going forward, the vet completed further liver tests to ensure Fifi's liver functioning was normal, and after determining that it is, the third time was a charm and my little girl is now spayed.
The reason this is so extraordinary as to be worthy of 5 stars is because first of all, Fifi's spay was included in the adoption fee, but I received no bill for the extra testing they did. Even more importantly though, the staff, especially Miriam, were so kind and always so patient with me, even when I was going crazy with a kitten in heat marking in my home.
She answered every question and every crazy email sent at 3 am after I found pee in my bed, and even after the spay, followed up to recommend a special recovery onesie for my sassy kitten who couldn't tolerate the cone. All told, this is a wonderful place, with people who truly care about each and every animal--and each of those animals' pet-parents--who comes through their doors and if I didn't already have a vet I adore, I would absolutely go back here as my regular vet. Thanks so much everyone at Mid North!

I have been going to Mid North Animal Hospital for about 7 years. I used to live nearly next door making it very convenient for me to bring my precious B. Since then, I have moved further and further away but still keep coming back because they always take such good care of my little monkey. They have great hours that work with a busy working person schedule and normally I have no issue getting her in last minute if need be.
They care a lot about their little furry patients and this is why I make the trek back despite moving further away from their office, while having closer more convenient practice, location wise. Thanks for always taking care of her through the good visits and the bad :

We recently had to do one of the saddest things you must do for a suffering pet. We knew it was the end and Dr. Laura could not have been more supportive during an awful time. When we made the decision, we asked to be in the room when our sweet cat passed away, and they accommodated all our requests. We were completely distraught, but the doctor and staff were kind and supportive throughout. After, they sent a lovely sympathy card signed by all the staff, our cat's pawprint on the Rainbow Bridge poem, and made a donation in our cat's name to a climate sustainability charity. It has helped make a sad time bearable.

I honestly think this place is kind of expensive for a vet, but the staff are all so kind and detail oriented I've been coming here ever since stumbling apon the place in an emergency. I needed to book a next-day vet visit but didn't yet have a regular vet, so I called several clinics near my home and couldn't find anyone who was able to fit us in until calling mid-north. Since then I've brought my cat back for routine care and boarding and they've always been pros.

Dr. Ross is the best vet ever! One of my cats died of a thyroid disease when I was taking her to a different vet. So I decided to try Mid North. Dr. Ross diagnosed another of my kitties with the same condition. He prescribed a different med in a dose that is easy to give. My cat is alive and healthy thanks to Dr. Ross. He saved her life! I also like the staff at Mid North. They are all efficient and sympathetic. Thank you all for the medical help and emotional support you have provided! Ann and Enid

I can not express enough how great Mid North Animal Hospital was during our visit. They answered all of my questions clearly and kindly and took very sweet care of my two beloved cats. We were very stressed out and overwhelmed about moving cross country and flying with our cats and the people at Mid North offered tips and ways to solve potential problems.
They were really able to help set our minds at ease. Their prices seemed comparable to other vets in the area and even a bit cheaper (definitely for the vaccinations we were purchasing) Everyone I encountered at Mid North was friendly and helpful, they even followed up with me specifically about our move and how it was on the cats.

We have taken a few pets here and each visit has been worse than the one before. Our 12 year old cat had an infection that started as some sneezing and progressed from there. We took him in once and they demanded a $200 blood test and prescribed antibiotics. After a few weeks he did not get better so we took him back in. They barely looked at him, prescribed more antibiotics, and told us diagnostics would be between $800 - $4000 (quite the range) because it was likely cancer. Took him for a second opinion at Old Town Animal Care center.
They did an X-ray and drained an tested the fluid build up which this vet never gave as an option. He's on the road to recovery now for less than $300 and does not have cancer. Don't take your pet here unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket and want a careless vet that doesn't actually look at your pet.

My 16 year-old Bengal cat, Lucy, has been through health and sickness under the knowledgeable and compassionate care of Dr. Ross and the Mid North team for the last 8 years. Since her stroke, Lucy's visits require blood pressure checks. Getting a solid blood pressure reading used to require that I drop her off in the morning. Then, a vet technician would have to wait until she calmed down (she's fiesty) to get an accurate blood pressure reading. Usually, that meant I had to wait until evening to come get her.
Not only was that tough on Lucy, it was tough on me since I don't have a car. Well, Mid North came up with an awesome solution. They invite Lucy to come a half hour before her scheduled visit to acclimate to her own private exam room. The result is a calm kitty and an accurate blood pressure reading all in one visit! That's just one example how Dr. Ross and the team at Mid North go above and beyond for the animals (and people) they care for. I have countless other stories.

I don't know how this place gets anything but 5 stars! To the people who think it is expensive. it is in Lincoln Park, I am not sure exactly what you expected. The front desk people are amazing and know what is happening with your pet at all times. The doctors listen to all of your concerns, even if they are a little intense. They are great with the animals, and you can tell they actually love what they do. I cannot recommend this place enough!
