Hanover Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organizaiton. We are NOT affiliated with Hanover Animal Control or the Hanover County Pound. Animals enter our system either as owner surrenders, transfers from other recognized Rescue Groups, or from a local pound. Animals are given medical care, sterilized, and then are placed in foster homes.
Hanover Humane will market the animals and provide for them until they find a forever home. We strive to educate the public on many topics including spay / neuter and proper treatment of animals.

Services
The Hanover Humane Society has been in the business of caring for animals since 1986. Let us give you the peace of mind that comes from knowing your pet is in the best possible hands. We welcome you to tour our facilities prior to making you reservation for boarding (or grooming). Our facility was operated as the Yopaka Kennels for more then 60 years with Hanover Humane Society purchasing the property in 2006.
If you are selected as the new home for one of our animals, you will be asked to sign a contract. Adoption fees start at $150 for dogs and $85 for cats. Depending on breed, medical issues, etc. the adoption fee for an animal may be higher. We accept cash, checks made payable to "Hanover Humane, " and Visa/Mastercard/Discover.
Bring familiar bedding and toys from home that will help your dog adjust to the new kennel environment. All bedding should fit into a standard washing machine. Even small changes in diet can cause gastrointestinal upset so we ask that you provide the food for your dog to eat during his/her stay. To ensure that you bring an adequate supply of food from home, we request that owners put the food for each meal in a separate baggie AND include enough food for 1 extra day. There will be an additional charge of $2.00/day per dog for food if we have to provide it.

They have a longstanding mission of taking animals from kill shelters, have high standards and thorough procedures for adoption, but respond quickly and compassionately to inquiries. They also operate a fee-based boarding and grooming operation in support of their core mission, on property willed to them by long-time supporters.

Super nice staff and clean facilities. I know they offer grooming but we are looking into adopting a new dog soon. Humane society's application process is extensive but shows they care about the animals and they do well at covering all the necessary decisions around adopting a new pet. They had a great process for introducing dogs to each other as well to verify they are compatible.

The staff has always been the best. They have taken care of our dogs for over 10 years and they have never disappointed me. My dogs always look great when I pick them up.an issue I have had in the past at other facilities. They are always willing to try to work with you if you have a special needs situation.
