Located in Mission Viejo, California we are a state of the art veterinary hospital serving Family Members, just like yours, all over Orange County. We offer Doctor's appointments, in house laboratory facilities, surgery, dentistry, internal medicine, dermatology and grooming. We even have a non-anesthetic dental technician and ultrasonographer come in to our pet hospital on regular basis. This extra step not only provides additional comfort during what can be a frighting time but is an extra level of protection for your pet.
Services
Our Veterinary Surgery Suite here in South Orange County has a Positive Air Flow System that enables us to maintain a more sterile environment for the surgical care of your pets. All pets receive a pre-anesthetic relaxant to make it less stressful for them. Isoflurane is the only gas anesthesia we use because of its excellent safety record.
The staff of Family Member Veterinary Hospital are hired for their professionalism, compassion and love of animals. We are pleased to introduce each of them to you here briefly but hope you will come in to meet each of us in person. Dr. Doug Glover is a 1985 graduate of Kansas State University. He has been providing care for small animals in California since 1987 and opened "Family Member" in 1997.
Reply times may vary, but we try to check our email several times a day so we should get back to you within 24 hours. I have been bringing my pets to Dr. Doug Glover, Family Member Veterinary Hospital, for 8 years. The last 2 years I have driven from Long Beach to continue to have him care for my pets.
Because Healthy Pets always have a smile for you, we thought it would be fun to feature a few of them. There is nothing like a smile from a pet to warm your heart. Many of them were while they were visiting with us. We welcome any submissions by our clients to be included here. Send them to drglover@familymember.com.

I can't say enough about how amazing Dr. Glover and everyone is at Family Member Veterinary Hospital! Dr. Glover took care of our two Italian Greyhounds, Gus & Chloe for their whole life! (16 years) and even helped us navigate canine cancer with the upmost care. He really cares for his patients and their humans too. We just adopted a Russian Blue kitten and Finch went for his first visit to Dr. Glover yesterday. Finch has been having stomach issues and Dr. Glover knew exactly what needed to be done! We love our fur babies and wouldn't trust anyone else!

I wish I didn't feel compelled to write this negative review because I genuinely liked the staff and overall work from this office. However, I have a 12-year-old Pomeranian who has not been able to get dental work done due to other medical issues. I had just moved to the area and Family Member Vet was the closest to my house, so I went to them. They are PRICEY!
But they told us they were excellent with senior dogs, so I saved up to take my dog there. 3 weeks prior to the teeth cleaning, I paid $600 for just about every type of test to make sure my dog was able to be put under safely and get his wellness exam and shots. At no point did they say they expected any major work to be done during the cleaning and they quoted the cleaning at $600.
At the drop off for his cleaning the quote was now $700 and I was required to sign a document which has a section where you must initial one of two options. One authorizes procedures to a certain dollar amount without consent from the owner, the other (which I initialed) states "Please do not do any additional medical procedures without my approval." So, imagine my horror when I got the call that the $700.00 teeth cleaning ended up being $1,700, after they extracted 13 teeth without contacting me first to obtain my authorization as I thought was made clear from the box I initialed!
They more than doubled my bill, pulled half of my dog's remaining teeth and did not consider due to the excessive number of extractions that getting my consent might be warranted. On the phone, Dr. Glover informed me that underneath the section I initialed (which should allow you to dictate your pet's care) there is a conflicting provision which nullifies the section you initialed which states that they have the right to extract as many teeth as they deem necessary, they will not contact the owner, you will be notified after and you must pay for the work!
I would have never had them do the teeth cleaning if they told me how much work needed to be done and given me a realistic quote during the screening 3 weeks prior. I would have found a vet I could afford. In his 12 years, teeth have been removed by other vets and they all called me to get approval before extracting. I even called the 5 vets near their offices (as now I'm looking for a new vet) and every single one said they never do extractions without first obtaining consent from the owner.
I was in such shock that all I could do was cry. I apparently was crying enough over the phone for them to give me a "multiple extraction" discount of $200, but my bill was still more than double what I expected and the payment plan they offered had 10.9% APR (are you joking?). When I went to pick up my dog I was still in shock, I just paid and took my dog.
Two days later, when I finally felt I could talk to them without getting upset, I was told the person I was talking to wasn't authorized to talk to me and she was hanging up and would notify the office manager. Instead of the office manager calling me back, she emailed me my dog's records and told me "we feel it is best to part ways." Very sad and very poor business practices.

I truly grateful for Dr. Glover and his team. I called 5 different vets in the area and everyone was booked. The reception was sweet and placed me on hold to make sure they could take us. We were able to confirm appointment. It was a smooth 10 minute drive, as soon as I got there I was in the room. Dr Glover was thorough, he made sure I knew exactly was he was doing to my pup. The bills was very reasonable in price with what they were doing. I'm switching my dogs over to this vet.

Dr. Glover is so caring and thorough. He was highly recommended by a friend who knew I was desperate for a second opinion about my dog's heart murmur and elevated liver enzymes. He spent a lot of time with me and my husband and talked about all possibilities of what could be going on. I just appreciate how quickly they got us in and understanding how worried we are. I also was pleasantly surprised that he charges less than my other vet.
