I found the whole experience boarding our 8 year old canine child here seamless. We had previously used a different kennel but found the drive to San Leandro to be tedious, not to mention that they did not have an opening when we needed them. I liked how clean and organized this facility was, and I appreciate how friendly the employees were when we dropped off and picked up.
I also really appreciate the value - I have seen double the price per night for comparable subpar facilities. If we were still in San Ramon, this would definitely be my go-to dog boarding place.

Staff is very pleasant, helpful and genuinely seem to remember my dogs and even like them (I have two high-energy labrador retrievers that are still learning to be good citizens). I love that they keep photos of the pups in their files, makes it feel very personalized. And in the photos, my dogs are actually 'smiling' up at the camera with their big goofy tongues hanging out.
My dogs are always happy to arrive to the parking area, happy to go back with the staff and also happy to see me, so I take this as a great sign that this is a low-stress, welcoming kennel for them.

I hate to give Tassajara Kennel a 1* after taking my cats there for years. We loved them when taking our cats there. Now that we have a dog, my rating has gone way down. We first took our dog there in April for the first time. After picking her up from 7 days, she had kennel cough. When I called them, they played dumb saying we didn't notice her coughing. So, l decided to give them another chance since we really liked them in the past.
We just returned from having her there for 10 days. We picked her up on August 22. She's been coughing since we picked her up. I called right away and asked about her coughing, they said, no she's been fine. While I was on the phone with them, my dog was coughing in the background. The lady said, yes that sounds like kennel cough (no kidding)!
Our dog has all her vaccines. What makes me upset is, they could have said something to us about her coughing. But instead, they denied she even had a cough. Twice they did that. Oh, and they told me they haven't had a case reported to them since June 19. After reading the reviews on Yelp, someone just reported their dog in there that came home with kennel cough. Sorry, but I won't be taking her back nor my cats. You people were not honest!

I guess this is a good place. Needed an overnight stay for our doodle. Since he is a pup, he hasn't gotten fixed yet, so rover wasn't an option. This place took him in and just verified his vax. $35 per night is a great deal. But really, have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. Can't really see anything out back. I guess so long as the dogs are safe and conditions are good, can't really complain.
They don't socialize with other dogs, so if you're looking for that, don't come here. It's an all business dog sitting. I guess its good so they have no issues with mis-behaved dogs biting mines. One note though. There is a big highlighted sign that says MASKS REQUIRED. How funny that a couple employees inside don't follow their own signs. I don't care masked or not, I'm ok with it. Just take the silly sign down.

So far so good. They are easy to reach via email! Which works for me cause being on the phone isn't always possible. My dog came back happy. The owner was really nice. I even emailed asking how my pup was an they gave an update. I then canceled all of our wags reservations and booked everything through TK. I think the best thing is knowing my dog gets the same play an attention as any other dog at a wonderful price. Though they could use maybe a bigger sign. I totally passed it an had to turn around lol.

This review is LONG overdue. I took my dog here a few years ago while waiting to move. She was here for about a month or so. The cost of boarding is supposed to cover food, meaning, they will provide food for your dog if you don't provide any. I initially brought what I had for her, which was a large bag of kibble, and once she was done with that - I was just going to have them provide their food.
I was visiting her regularly, and after a few weeks I had not seen her because I had been working a lot and didn't have time to make it over there. Come time to get her she was EMACIATED. Skin and bones literally, she looked worse than the way she did when we went to first adopt her from the shelter. She also had a terrible kennel cough after that.
The place was hot and musty, barely looked like they cleaned the place or really take the dogs out and apparently they barely give them anything to eat! I didn't make a big stink about it because I was just ready to have my dog back. But honestly, told myself I would NEVER take her to a place like this again! Avoid if you can!

My two cats spent a week at TK. Home just a day they seem much more relaxed than they ever did when we leave them at home for a weekend w a cat feeder coming in 2 x day. TK friendly staff and clean facility. Answered call and email timely when I had any questions and wanted update on my cats behavior. They summed up my qwerky female in no time. Comfortable 'condo' for each cat. & rate includes food. No smell & clean. A bit of a trek from WC, but a nice drive to a quiet country side spot. Will use TK service again.

We pretty much got fired by Tassajara Kennel, and we were told to bring your dog for gromming somewhere else, that we would be happier bringing her somewhere else. This is unfortunate because she is a sweet dog, and during her recent boarding stay, she came home in a very good emocional state of mind. They are very good with boarding, but the grooming is having serious issues. Now we have to again find another place for grooming, but they said that they could groom our dog during future boarding stays.

Sorry but it looks like a prison for dogs inside! Maybe all kennels are like this? Small spaces to hold the dogs although there is a run attached to their space. Rock gravel for them to walk or run in. My dog could not wait to get out, had an abrasion on her face they never acknowledged that I did not notice til we got home. Not air-conditioned but has some swamp fans going. To top it off she also came home with kennel cough. She did get a good bath here and survived so two stars for that;

I still keep coming back here, pleased with the overall service of this fine establishment. While I'm not happy about the prices (Note, my sister has a place where she lives.the cost is only $20.00 a day and that includes everything!) I am pleased with both the grooming and the care given at Tassajara Kennel. They are consistently good!

I recently used the boarding service at this kennel due to lots of positive reviews on Nextdoor. The staff/owner communication was excellent but I'm disappointed that my dog had an abrasion on his nose. I didn't notice it at time of the express check-out as the kennel was closed due to black friday holiday but made an exception for me as they made a mistake with the check-out date at the time of enrollment(thanks for being accommodating).
I do understand that our furry friends can get hurt during play time outdoors but I would have appreciated if the kennel formally reported the incident to me. They did not respond to my email follow-up as well. I was looking for a long relationship with this business but now I won't use this service again.

Had to kennel our two Frenchie's to move son into college. One Frenchie is a pup and this was his first kennel experience. Worst thunderstorm in California history, record breaking heat, smoke from fires, power outages, I was worried! Tassajara Kennel took great care of our pups and we couldn't be more thankful. They responded to my emails reassuring me the dogs were fine and so was the kennel. Picked up our guys squeaky clean and happy. Thank you!

A wonderful place to take your furry loved one! Our dog was so happy when we picked him up. Tassajara Kennel gives you a full written report when you pick up telling you how your pet ate, slept, behaved, etc. They provided a very loving and safe environment for our English Bulldog. Great location, set up and affordable pricing. We plan to use them again. Thank you Tassajara Kennel!

This kennel is another great choice for your fur love! At Tassajara, they supply the food (Kirkland Turkey) for your dogs if you are accepting of that! Kirkland is high on the list for dog food and we use it at home, so we were pleased! If you have doggy siblings staying they are able to stay in the same kennel. This definitely provides a sense of comfort for us since we want our babies to feel safe.
Unlike most kennels, the dogs do not take part in social play. To replace that missing exercise the attendants walk the dogs frequently. The dogs also have plenty of room to walk around in their kennel area. One of our dogs is on daily meds-they did not charge to administer these (he takes them mixed in his food). We felt completely safe leaving our fur babies and knew they were well taken care of. Be aware that if booking on a holiday they fill up fast!

You can travel and know your doggie is in great hands while you're gone! Especially if you have a senior dog who has special needs. TK's friendly and attentive staff always ensures that our dog is happy and healthy upon our return. We originally chose this facility because they are one of the few to administer Insulin Shots to diabetic pets. Now that beloved Scooter has crossed the rainbow bridge we continue to use Tassajara Kennel for our new little rescue Squirt. He loves it too!

We have used Tassajara Kennel a couple of times, without issue, until our most recent board. Prior to this most recent board, although each time was without incident, each time I did notice not one person went out of their way to be friendly or welcoming. When we would pick up our GSD, no report of how she did, if she ate or any word of anything about our girl or anything for that matter.
Not a huge deal, just a "note to self". This most recent time we boarded her July 21 - 24, we also requested that she be bathed. I received a call on July 24 and was told they were running a little late and she wouldn't be ready by 10:00am and that our girl was being difficult. I asked, "when you say difficult, do you mean aggressive?" I was told, "no, not at all, she's just making it clear she doesn't want to be bathed so it's taking 2 groomers to bathe her." I said, no worries, no problem, and that I would let my husband know, as he would be picking her up.
I arrived home late that night and had minimal interaction with her. The next day, I went to put one hand on each side of behind her ears to grab her and kiss her face, and I barely had my right hand behind her left ear and she yelped in pain. I tried to touch her again and she wouldn't let me. She had not been acting herself, seemed extremely tired, (per the husband, slept all day the day he picked her up) and was sleeping most of the following day. Wouldn't eat that night and was shedding immensely, worse than I've ever seen.
Course hair just falling off of her. By day 2, I called the kennel, asked to speak directly with a manager. I think her name was Katrina. I told her we had just picked up our GSD 2 days ago and that she was bathed the day of pick up. I asked her what the protocol is when bathing a larger (60#) dog who was not being cooperative. She explained to me that they tie the dog up, to not escape the tub.
I asked if the tie up was around her neck. She said yes, a noose, so she couldn't get out of the tub. I asked what the material of the "noose" was made of and I thought she said rope. I confirmed it was not metal and she said no, not metal. She said she was going to ask the groomer(s) and proceeded to put me on hold. She came back and said it took 2 groomers to bathe her because she was so difficult to handle.
I then proceeded to tell her our girl appeared injured, on the back of her neck. I told her she wouldn't let me put enough pressure on it to feel if it was a wound, bump, or even swollen, so I had no idea what was wrong but something clearly was not ok. I told her she was not herself and not eating. Her energy level was extremely low. She told me that neither one of the groomers said they thought our girl was injured during her bath.
The following day, our girl seemed to be doing a little better, still not a full meal since we picked her up, still dropping a lot of course hair. She went for a swim in the pool and when she came out, she wouldn't shake because of her neck. I then called the vet. We couldn't get in for 2 days (Monday) but was told if at anytime her condition seemed to worsen before her appointment, to take her to an emergency vet.
The next evening she ate her first full meal and she finally let me put enough pressure on her to feel the entire back of her neck was full of scabs. I took her to the vet and after an exam, although she wouldn't let the vet touch her head/neck, he felt she may have had a "pinched nerve" type injury. Gave us a nerve pain medication and said if it didn't resolve, to come back and he would have x rays taken.
He also said the way she was shedding was due to stress. Every time I pet my girl and felt the scabs on her neck, knowing something happened but not knowing what, I became more upset. I called the kennel and asked to speak with the owner. Sue, is who took my call. After giving her all of the above info, although she seemed very nice and acknowledged our dogs are our babies, she told me she would speak with the groomers to inquire as to what happened, and call me back. It's been 10 days and I haven't heard from her. Although our girl is now ok and she's strong, I would hate for a smaller, uncooperative dog to be injured more seriously. We won't be going back.

Can't go wrong at this place. Ive been leaving my fur baby here since he was 1 and now he is already 7. And we still keep going here whenever we can't take him with us. The prices is very decent for the services you get. If you shop around in town I believed they are one of the cheapest. The place is clean and doesn't have any smell like other places.
Staff is very friendly and you can tell they love dogs. We never really had problems ever since we started coming here. All in all im a happy costumer. For future reference if your planning to leave your dog during holidays make sure you book it way ahead. They could get very busy and the waiting list is very long.

I was extremely nervous about boarding my anxious chihuahua for the first time but I had a great previous experience with Tassajara Kennel for my cats. They answered all of my questions and made sure to calm my nerves. They were very attentive to my dog and did everything they could to make him comfortable. He was nervous about being there but the staff gave him lots of love and he was his usual happy self as soon as I picked him up. I am so pleased by the love and care the employee's have for the animals and will definitely be using them in the future!

We have boarded our large dogs at Tassajara several times in the past. The last couple of times we boarded our puppy with our elderly, 15 year old dog. The staff were so helpful and kind, more than happy to deal with me calls to check in on how they were getting along and how our old girl was doing. We feel very comfortable here and even now that our old girl has passed away we will be bringing our pup and now the cat. I highly recommend.

I love Tassajara Kennel. Took another long vacation so we needed to board our dog and Tassajara Kennel is the best! Dogs are assigned kennels based on their size and weight. Big dogs get their own kennel. Our dog is half lab, half pit weighing about 65lbs so he had his own kennel with a dog run. The kennel allows people to bring a personal item for the dog to improve their comfort so we brought our dog's blanket so he can lay on it like he does at home.
The people at Tassajara Kennel are so nice! They lay it out for him when he pushed it around. This is a great place to board your dog. They're kennels are clean and the dogs are loved!

We used to love this place as they used to send us home with report cards of the dogs and how they were during their stay. Not anymore or maybe we just don't get them. Just picked up our Pom from a 3-day stay with grooming and he now has something wrong with his eye. Also, I'm really disappointed with his $70 haircut that has left him half-shaved and looking bald as opposed to the fluff ball "lion" haircut he usually gets (also, I sent a picture to them for reference).
I even called today, the day of pickup, to ask if I could email a picture of how he was previously groomed and they didn't mention any trouble with his eye until my husband came to pick him up. I'm highly disappointed that they didn't let us know anything was wrong with him until pickup. Not sure what's happened.

We took our dogs here for boarding while my husband and I took a long weekend away. We were nervous to see how our dogs would do in a kennel environment. We have two big dogs with two very different personalities. Our German Shepherd is a bit of drama queen and doesn't always get along with other dogs so it can be difficult to find a pet sitter or kennel that will take her.
Our other dog is a big 90 lb mastiff shepherd mix with a sweet personality but can be intimidating and a lot to handle. We were able to come out and tour the facility before we booked and decided to give it a try. There were several different kennel styles and after speaking with Ken we decided on two indoor/outdoor runs. Our dogs were able to be kenneled right next to each other.
Our mastiff mix loved it there, getting so much attention from the staff and seeing all the other dogs. But we knew our shepherd would have a harder time. She had never been boarded and is a little anxious and extremely attached to my husband. After watching her for a night one of the staff thought she might benefit from being put into the same kennel as our other dog.
We were told she did much better, she was more active and less pouty following his every move, visiting with staff at the gate and checking out the dogs passing by. When we picked her up she was happy to see us but not stressed. It made it easy to register them to board since they didn't require behavioral assessments like most other places. I really liked that they took them out 3 times a day to play in the private fenced in space.
It was great to have them in a place where they weren't locked in a kennel 24/7 but I also didn't have to worry about how they socialized with other dogs either. The staff was also happy to have us call and check-up on them after they had a night to settle in. It used to be a big scramble to find someone to watch our dogs every time we needed to go out of town. Now we know when we need to leave its fast and easy to reserve a kennel at Tassajara and we don't have to worry about the pups while we're gone.

Tassajara Kennel and Grooming is the only place I take my dog, and I refer all my friends and family to them. Nestled on Camino Tassajara between Blackhawk and The Dublin Ranch area, it's a great spot with a nice, homey feel. The owner, Sue, is wonderful. She loves animals, and she takes time to get to know your pet. All the dogs I've referred there have been recent rescues with a little residual trauma from being at the shelter, and they have all had great experiences. They do SUCH a good job, too. My dog always looks adorable when I pick him up
