If there is no license, go to your town clerk with proof of updated rabies vaccine, (we will fax to them if we administer the vaccine), and obtain your license. NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets Law Article 7 requires that shelters hold unlicensed dogs for a minimum of 5 days and licensed dogs for 10 days. As a courtesy, the CNY SPCA holds all dogs for 10 days before preparing them for adoption. Per New York State Law all dogs, cats and rabbits must be spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter.
Services
Our goal at the CNY SPCA is to set all of our animals up for success in their new home. Our adoptions are not "first come, first serve". We choose the adopters that are the best fit for the animal. Decisions are made by kennel staff and shelter administration. We will also be counseling all families at the time of adoption to try and help the transition into your home easier for your family and your new companion.
1- the above information is true and correct to the best of my knowledge. I also acknowledge falsification of the above can result in my being denied adoption of an animal. In order to visit with an animal you MUST have a fully processed, APPROVED application. Our approval process takes 24 - 48 hours.
The Central New York SPCA can help place healthy cats that are not suitable as pets in environments where they can flourish, working alongside humans to help control rat and mice populations. These cats can be placed successfully in barns, ranches, construction companies, police stations, military bases, and other businesses looking for inexpensive and effective rodent control.
To report Dog Control related issues such as a stray animal, bite case quarantine, dangerous dog complaint, or any animal complaint outside of cruelty please contact us. Dog Control is available for Emergency calls that are routed through the municipalities via local police agency or 911 emergency services.

Wonderful service and knowledge. Very pleasant and satisfied with the service that I received. We had adopted a wonderful senior dog. The miniature pinscher is wonderful he fits in very good only took 2 days. He's doing wonderful with the senior dogs around my complex and the children on my complex again thank you very much.

Adopted a 1 year old Black and white cat and named him Finn! We love him so much and wouldn't be the same without him. Sadly though the person who handed him over to the SPCA didn't care to mention he has epilepsy and made up some other random excuse for needing to hand him over. The SPCA never caught it either during the month and a half he was there. We love him and don't regret adopting him. Just wish people could be honest. Maybe he could have been seen by a vet sooner.

We adopted Esther the cat back in 2015 who now proudly goes by Booboo (before and after pic included) and she has the most mean resting face but has come such a long way since we got her she was scared of doors and wouldn't drink out of a water dish but now she has our malamute (which we adopted in 2019 who goes by Mishka) and our pitmix wrapped around her little fluffy fingers.

They were super helpful and let us meat countless cats and dogs until we found our perfect match. Im so glad we could help these 2 amazing animals get their furever homes! They made the most perfect additions to our family

I adopted my cat, Dizzy, here almost one year ago. He came into the shelter in early 2021 as Atticus. He's been doing amazing! My impression was that the staff at Syracuse SPCA are incredibly passionate about the animals at the shelter. They make sure the animals are healthy and attended to under their care, and they also perform due diligence when it comes to matching the animal with a future home.

While the SPCA was more than helpful with the adoption process and communicative and responsive with their process their parameters are very limited with what they consider the "best household" for matching up pets. I have a good job, am an experienced dog owner and have been approved for adoption twice I've been turned away because the dog I wanted to meet wasn't a "good fit" and the second time I was told (mind you they've never even met me) point blank that he dog I wanted to meet was going to be held until they could find a "younger family" to adopt him.

So if you're older and a single person looking for companionship don't go to the SPCA-I thought I was doing a good thing going there instead of all the private rescues. Guess Not. SHAME ON YOU SPCA!.

We handed in our application the day we went to view their available dogs. We were immediately approved (we have no kids and we own our house, so there was no complications), and we were able to schedule a meet and greet within the week. The staff was friendly, helpful, and flexible. They worked with our schedule as best they could and were flexible about which dogs we wanted to meet.

We picked our dog that day and are waiting to bring him home! Overall, they were quick to respond to emails and phone messages and were very easy to work with! They were also thorough with information and the process as a whole. Update: we came back 4 months later for a second adoption, and the process was even easier this time around since they had most of our info! The meet and greet went well and we brought home our second dog within 2 weeks

I found the companion for me. They were so helpful and worked with me and my schedule. They really care about the animals here, so much so that one of Snoopy's(my dog) caretakers teared up. But they are so happy when a match is found!

The staff was short and the place smelled like urine even after they had sprayed down the animal rooms prior to opening. It did appear that the animals were well taken care of and let out regularly which was nice. Even though we did not find a small dog to be a companion to our Dachshund we will try again sometime soon.

We got our Staffie, Bolo here. Let me just say the staff is great! They are so understanding and you can tell they really love and care about the animals they care for. If you are thinking about getting a new furry friend, this is the place to do it! The facility is very clean, the animals are very well cared for and soooo adorable!
