Did you know that accreditation for animal hospitals is voluntary? Surprising, isn't it? Nearly 60 percent of pet owners believe that their pet's veterinary hospital is accredited when it is not. In actuality, only 12-15% of animal hospitals have gone through the accreditation evaluation process by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).
Keeping our pets smiling brightly and their mouths smelling fresh and healthy is a priority for all of us pet owners. Unfortunately, oral health can often be overlooked until there is a problem. Should your pet be in need of a dental cleaning, the veterinary team at Michigan Road Animal Hospital at 96th Street is here to help!

I had to put my pomeranian down unexpectedly. She was 14 years old. It was almost closing time and after being turned down at another pet hospital because it was closing time, I went here. This practice made the biggest impact on me and has made me still believe there are kind and caring people left in this world. The staff and Dr Klarquist are the best!
Even though it was closing time they didn't rush me, told me to take my time. Both the DR and one of the staff members stayed right by my side through the process. This was such a difficult time but I felt the compassion from everyone. They have gained my trust and business and will be returning for the care of my other dogs.

Their concern and obvious care for Inca is exceptional. Always an outstanding experience dealing with the doctors and staff at MRAH at 96th. I've brought all of my dogs to Michigan Road Animal Hospital for years, including our two most recent Newfies (Barney & Takoda). Everyone from the front desk, Lauren the groomer, to the techs in the back are amazing. Dr. K, Dr. Wilson and Dr. Arvin are all very caring and take the time to listen to your concerns and explain everything so you understand.
They definitely care just as much about your fur babies as you do! We are moving out of state soon and our biggest wish is that our next vet will be half as good as this group!

After over a year of patronage for 4 different animals they called my family and told us they wouldn't be treating our dog anymore because of her office anxiety. They gave no warning, no indication this was coming. In fact, I had brought her in a few weeks prior and we'd discussed her annual visit plans. Furthermore, the conversation I had with the Dr I spoke to took about 40 seconds; he was very curt and clearly had no desire to actually try and communicate with me thoughtfully about what my next steps are as a dog mom.
If you don't have the staff to support a dog with office anxiety, that's fine. However, the manner in which their refusal of treatment was handled was unprofessional, inconsiderate, and ultimately damaging to my dog's physical well-being. She's now past due for her vaccinations (they told me they wouldn't treat her anymore when I called to schedule her annual).
What's more is the "referral" they gave me for a Veterinary Behaviorist doesn't even actually provide physical treatment. I now have to try and find a new place to get my dog her vaccinations before the Behaviorist will even see her to try and help with her office anxiety. Again, it's not the refusal of service that bothers me, it's the way they went about it.
The treatment and care they provide is adequate. However, if you're looking for a vet office that you can rely on and trust- I would definitely suggest continuing your search!

Our vet is Dr. Arvin who took care of our sick cat. We failed to update our phone number with them so Dr. Arvin wrote us a detailed email early the next day with the laboratory findings, provisional diagnoses and treatment options. I pick up my email late in the day and sent her an updated phone number. She called early the next day and we further discussed the lab findings and next steps.
She spent the time necessary to answer all my questions. She ended the call by asking if there was anything else. Rarely do I hear this type of open ended question from a professional of her stature at the end of a conversation. I think it reflects the concern and respect that the professionals at Michigan Road Animal Hospital have for the patient and owners.
I am a retired health care provider myself and have full confidence that my beloved elderly cat will receive the best care possible from this veterinarian group. And the front desk and staff make this all a pleasant experience.
