You can make a huge difference in your dog's life by introducing things in a positve manner starting at 8 weeks old. Hopefully your breeder has begun that before you even got your puppy. You have a blank slate. A good place to start would be to get recommendations from your local Obedience Training club.
To obtain the AKC STAR Puppy status, the puppy must attend group classes for 6 weeks. If between 16 weeks and 11 months, (must be younger than 12 months before the class ends to qualify for AKC STAR Puppy status), and fully vaccinated against Parvo, then you would want to join in the Family Manners class, please go to that page for dates, location and price. If your puppy is less than 1 year old, you can earn your STAR Puppy status by attending 6 weeks of the Beginner Obedience for Family Manners class!
Dogs must be friendly towards other dogs and people when on and off leash to attend classes. Dogs must be non-reactive with no excessive barking and lunging, (that is covered with private lessons). Children may attend, but only 1 per dog unless there is an extra adult present to monitor the extra children who will be sitting quietly outside the ring.
Contact me if you are Puppy Raising a Canine Companions for Idependence Service Dog. your classes are free! For more information about the 10 steps, please visit theAmerican Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen website. You must email SarasotaDogTrainer@gmail.com for screening, registration form & prepaying (check or cash only) to reserve a spot in class.
Here are some simple rules to follow to make your group class the best possible learning experience. Dogs must be non-reactive when on leash, no excessive barking or lunging, (that is covered with private lessons), exception made for young puppies. If your dog has not successfully completed a level, please take that level again until successful.

Jeanine is the best. She is so skilled in so many different dog training skills. Jeanine is kind & she knows how to handle head-strong dogs/puppies if they get wild.

If you are looking for a great trainer, then take one of Jeanine's classes. My puppy just graduated from her family manners class. Jeanine does more than help you to teach your dog a few tricks. She helps you understand how your dog thinks so that you can communicate better with your pooch. This is my second dog to take Jeanine's class. She impressed me so much that I looked her up over 10 years later for my new puppy.
