Services
Wheeling Animal Hospital is proud to serve the Wheeling, IL area for everything pet-related. Our veterinary clinic and animal hospital is run by Wheeling Animal Hospital Wheeling Animal Hospital, who is a licensed, experienced Wheeling veterinarian. Our team is committed to educating our clients on how to keep your pets healthy year round, with good nutrition and exercise.
This is the one and only Rolo! Someone saw him running in a parking lot without any collar & tags, the police brought him to our facility hoping we can find him a good home. He is a ball of energy, if you're a walker or enjoy hiking he'd love to be your companion. He will need a couple of meet and greets, so he can get to know you.
We are happy to provide you with a wide variety of mobile services in the familiar environment of your pet's home. Our mobile option allows for a more relaxed relationship between veterinarian and patient. These are the mobile services we offer for your furry companions. A standard checkup includes taking your pet's temperature and checking his or her ears, eyes, heartbeat, teeth, organs and body temperature.
The goal of a pet wellness program is to prevent or minimize disease or injury. Pets who receive regular examinations live healthier, longer lives at a much more predictable and manageable cost for owners. The American Veterinary Association recommends that pets see their veterinarian for wellness exams every six months.

Dr. Damiana is THE BEST. This woman is so knowledgeable and so caring. I brought both of my cats here religiously and would still be doing so if I hadn't moved across the country. Costs are provided up front so you know exactly what to expect and can choose what makes the most sense for you and your pet. The front staff were always kind and organized and like I said before, Dr. Damiana is truly a pet hero. If you can go to anybody, go to her.

I really appreciate the knowledgeable and proactive front desk staff at Higgins Animal Clinic. They do a great job of making sure that all the necessary things are done efficiently without extra visits. It's rare these days to find an in-person or telephone experience I don't wish could be replaced with an online button but the women staffing the front desk and phones have been lifesavers. My pandemic puppy and I are lucky to have them!

It was my first visit as a new dog dad. Professional staff from the time I called the office til the time I left. Staff made me feel welcome (thank you Robyn and Joshua). Loved my first encounter with Dr. Damiana (so did Rumi, my pup). Laura responded to my email inquiry professionally and promptly. I feel that my pup is in good hands.

Dr. Damiana is wonderful. My dog has been having G.I. issues for the last 4+ years, and the vet I was previously seeing, never suggested doing a G.I. panel. Dr. Damiana suggested we do this at our first apt., and the results revealed a B12 deficiency. Since we began supplementing with B 12, my dog has been doing significantly better. I will also mention that the receptionists and staff are all fantastic! They are kind, helpful, warm, and friendly, and they often follow up with phone calls.

I don't know why this place doesn't have five stars but they are seriously awesome. I've been taking my dog Wilson here for years and they are the absolute best. Even though its a little out of the way for me, I'll still come here because the staff is so friendly and they seem really knowledgeable. Arial (sorry if I spelled it wrong) is the sweetest and always finds a spot for me even at the last minute. If you're looking for a trustworthy vet, this is your place.

Grooming review. We have another facility for our vet needs - not because we don't like Higgins, but because we have a history with our vet but who doesn't offer grooming. I wouldn't hesitate to come for vet services, though. Now then! Felipe is the groomer. He came highly recommended by a friend who did a ton of research on groomers because she had a curly haired doodle.
We have a wavy haired doodle, so not quite the same urgency but still need occasional trimming. We dropped her off - curbside service only for the groomer. We had a brief discussion with Felipe about how we wanted her features done. A couple of hours later, she was clean, trimmed, and clipped. She was happy and Felipe said she was a cooperative customer. Our Bobbi is a cooperative pup, so we weren't surprised, but still good to hear. Overall, we're happy with Higgins and Felipe!

Dr. Mistar at Higgins is an excellent, caring vet! I switched to Higgins after my dog Legend started having liver issues and I wanted a second opinion. Dr. Mistar went above and beyond from the start. She has done research on different meds and issues that we were experiencing and even calls after hours to check in on my dog to see how she is doing. I would highly recommend her!

Can't say enough wonderful things about Higgins! When we adopted our dog from One Tail At A Time, they worked with Higgins so we continued going there - and so glad we did. The whole staff is wonderful, they are very easy to schedule with, and have been so helpful with documentation for traveling with my dog. Absolutely recommend Higgins!

I've taken my cat to Higgins several times and could not recommend them enough! My cat has had a few illnesses and each time I've had to take him here, I feel at ease. I can tell they all really love their patients. They are diligent with calling to follow up on my cat's health and are extremely patient with me and all my questions. I've also contacted them a few times using their online portal and they are super quick to respond. I've moved a bit farther from their office but do not plan to switch to another vet!

I highly recommend Higgins Animal Clinic! I started going there as they were the vet clinic used by the dog rescue I picked my dog up from when I was fostering. I had intended to switch to a clinic closer to my house once I officially decided to adopt her, however I've had such a great experience with this clinic I couldn't make the switch.
Living in a city without a car can be a challenge, but honestly it's worth having to rent a car every time I need to bring my dog to the vet, because their staff is that great, friendly and prices are reasonable. I cannot say enough about how amazing Dr. Lindsay McReynolds is. My dog, Ginger, loves her, and the entire staff there makes what's typically a pretty stressful situation for my dog (and I), quick, easy and painless!

A friend recommended Higgins Animal Clinic to us as we just adopted our first puppy. As new puppy parents, we were really nervous and the staff was very supportive and helpful (while minimizing human contact per COVID). They were very patient and answered all our questions. At the end, they told us our baby bernedoodle was a really good boy and put an adorable little bandana on him :)

Stay away! They are all about the money here. A 12 year old dog in pain and they will not refill even a temporary supply for an appointment that is 6 days away. Tell me they care about animals here. To top it all off the staff is just flat out rude. Update: The doctor's response is full of lies. I requested a 6 day supply. Your staff refused at your direction, that's when the lecturing started.
The YELP reviews here speak for themselves. You are a compassionless person and the reviews of your practice demonstrate so. It all starts at the top and YOU are the reason why your business is so poorly reviewed.

Dr Mc Reynolds is the most compassionate, kind and very knowledgeable Vet I've ever been to. My dog has been healthy for his first 9 years. He's recently started having seizures. Dr Mc Reynolds diagnosed him with liver disease and a brain tumor. She didn't put him thru a bunch of unnecessary tests just to run our bill up. She started him on a few meds and he's been doing great under her care.
She calls regularly just to check on him! I feel Dr Mc Reynolds is truly an amazing person and wonderful Doctor! I'm so lucky to have found her on a random ear infection appointment a few years ago.

My puppy hurt his leg over the weekend, and in my search for an affordable and reputable vet to visit and get his leg checked, I stumbled across this gem of a clinic. The staff were all wonderful to interact with and eager to help us help our puppy. The first visit was free, which is excellent compared to some of the emergency vets in the area (152 dollars for an initial exam alone), and I will definitely be back with my puppy and other pets in the future.
The vet was friendly, knowledgeable, and gave him a full exam; I just wish that she would have come back to the room after the initial exam to answer some of our questions, both about our dog's condition and about his general care. Even so, the vet tech was very helpful. Wonderful visit and will definitely return

I WAS very happy with the service here. I was a newish - but, a loyal client of the staff and grooming service. I spent on average a couple of hundred bucks a month in the place - ABOVE & BEYOND - The major expenses, So, I would guess a few grand in 180 days or shorter. My puppy was in distress from what appeared to be allergies. I called in the morning to ask if my dog could be cleaned up around the eyes where some discharge had come about.
I brought her in in the early afternoon only to discover the groomer had left and I made a second request to have a quick look at her eyes. The vets were right there. I was told by the receptionist to give her an OTC medication and had to ask 4 times in what dosage and how often. Finally, the receptionist took my puppy back to the vets who were standing around and brought her back less than a minute later and said give her the OTC and if she gets worse take her to the ER.
I knew right there this wasn't the place for me. I posted on social media my need for a new vet and the reason why and received an insulting response to my statement. They even referenced my puppy "as your white dog" - This pissed me off. They had no response and while there might be many good things about this place. It only matters when you really need your vet.
Animal clinics are businesses and I respect that. But, true customer service needs to be provided in this industry when it might be inconvenient to the business. As long as the customer is willing to pay the price. Which I was. Online statements have real consequences - It goes both ways in a real and meaningful manner.

I've always been very happy with the people and service from Higgins. When my last pet passed away at home, Higgins was very helpful in guiding me through the cremation process and the emotional process ( they acknowledged my pet's passing with a sympathy message). Now, I have a kitten who just turned one year old. When he found me last year, the first thing I did was make an appointment at Higgins. I am happy to say, Higgins' is as good as its ever been.

The African-American girl is extremely rude. I was told one price on the phone, then upon checking out I was told another, twice as much as the original price. The doctors were nice enough, and the Caucasian girl is nice. Also, we have 5 pets total, 1 is a service dog, and they are unwilling to give any kind of a discount if we were to go there for future care.
In response to Humphrey - I used ethnicities because I did not know their names, and it was completely acceptable by society's standards. The review was written prior to meeting with the manager, and yes, an adjustment was made which was appreciated, since I was told one price, than charged another. The question regarding multiple pets was for any possible future visit to your clinic, and albeit not at all common in Chicago, it is in several other states in the country.
Everywhere in Chicago is too money hungry and greedy to give any kind of multi-pet discount, or discount for a legitimate service dog. I will be sure to take my 4 pets and service dog to a veterinary clinic that appreciates the business, we will not be back to yours. For the record, my dog is not aggressive, which was proven when at the clinic, it was an unfortunate, circumstantial situation based off of fear.
