Services
If you have lived in Austin for awhile and have owned a pet during that time, chances are you probably know us. Since 1977, we have been located at the same place in Northwest Austin and have earned the designation of a legendary pet store known for its quality pet products and exotic pets including birds, reptiles, small mammals, and fish.
We offer professional, reliable, and high quality aquarium services to maintain a beautiful, healthy, worry-free aquarium for your home or business. If interested, call Glenda or Joe at 512-345-8920 or 512-567-9052. We offer premium pet sitting service here at Gallery of Pets. Your beloved pets are some important things to consider when planning a vacation.
There are several different types of saltwater fish species. They are noted for their dazzling bright colors and distinctive patterns and markings. Some commonly known species include clownfish, angelfish, surgeonfish, lionfish and gobies. Come back to our Saltwater Room and take a look at our selection of marine fish and invertebrates.
All of our birds are avicultured (captive-bred). If our birds are being hand fed, you may pay a down payment for at least half the price of the bird, in order to hold it until it is ready to go home, at which time, the bird, cage, and/or accessories must be paid in full. All of our baby birds, once weaned, must be cage trained in order to make sure they can maintain their own weight, and are healthy, before going home with you.

I LOVE this pet store. I board my macaw here and they do a fabulous job. The staff loves animals and go above and beyond taking care of their boarded animals: fresh, healthy food, lots of love, nice cages (so you don't have to bring your own) and they have a close relationship with my vet in Georgetown and if needed will make sure my bird gets vet care in an emergency. I feel so good about leaving my bird there. Can't give this place enough praise. Spend all of your money on pet related items here, they deserve the business!

Great family owned and local pet shop with a focus on tropical and marine fish among other critters.

I can only attest to the fish section of this store. First, the only employee in the area zipped by me several times without acknowledging me. In any other store, I wouldn't mind, but it's not like I can reach in and grab the fish myself. Second, the selection is small, they have some of the more popular species, but not a lot of variety or more hard to find species. Cories are my all time favorites and they only had one type.

I was looking to buy pandas and pygmy salt and peppers specifically. Third, some of the care was questionable. They surprisingly had a nice selection of axolotls. However, I have one myself and know that they are very finicky and have very particular needs. I was disappointed that the filter in the axolotl tank was jettisoning out water. Axolotls need very low flow conditions, their natural habitat is a dark, cold lake in Mexico.

The poor things were pressed against the rocks, swaying, trying to hold on for dear life. I worry the staff won't be able to educate prospective owners about the special needs of the axolotls if they can't even provide the right environment in the store. Also, I was absolutely shocked at the feeder goldfish tank. Just because they are going to be food, doesn't mean they don't deserve decent conditions until then.

Half of them were dead, with several floating at the top of the tank and several bodies wrapped around the filter intake. I don't care if the customer thinks goldfish are lesser fish and don't need good husbandry, the fish store should know better. After seeing that and being treated as though I was invisible, I left and took my credit card with me. I am not a beginner when it comes to fish care and have 6 aquariums. You never know who might walk into your store and how much potential business they might provide.

Wanted to buy a bird Monday afternoon and was recommended to them. The lady at the front seem nice and helpful. But the sales lady with the birds was such a snub. At first would not acknowledge me. Then was I was asking about pricing and more info about the birds she left to answer a call and then I could see her sitting in the office chatting away with another co worker while I was standing there looking crazy.

Finally she comes back tells me to do more research lol even tho a quick YouTube search would show she barely knows what she's talking about. I believe her name was Cathy. If she is not the owner. I would get rid of her cause I can promise she is costing you money.

Wonderful experience. Absolutely wonderful people, business, and so much knowledge about birds and their behaviors and needs. They genuinely care and have high quality birds (don't expect them to be cheap, but they do a-lot of the work for you!). My son is autistic and is never considered a burden to these people, they encourage him to be hands on when picking a new member of our family. Thank y'all so much for your kindness, friendliness of all employees, and passion for customer service.

Smaller local pet store that specializes in birds and fish. If I had visited for birds or fish, this would be a five star review. Both seem immaculately cared for with an incredible supply selection. However, I visited to look at reptiles and get some supplies. Both reptiles and small mammals seem like an afterthought at this store, with a very limited selection in a small corner. Additionally, they cohabitate leopard geckos, which most consider a dangerous practice due to the risk of fighting. They do have a small reptile supply and selection of feeder insects but it feels like an afterthought to the main focus of the store.

I've purchased 3 birds from Gallery of Pets and I can say the staff and owner truly care about the animals. The ladies there, Tonya, Cheyenne, and Kathy have always been great. They are committed to great service, knowledgeable and very friendly. It's awesome to be able to get my birds nails trimmed there and the variety of parrot toys is amazing.

They have a nice selection! They offer salt water, fresh water fish; as well as, small mammals, a variety of reptiles, and birds! Employees seem passionate about their animals and are willing to answer any questions you have about them! They also have a tortoise named Alice that roams about the store! :

Trying to get a pet bird here was impossible. When trying to ask for assistance or more info on the birds here, the employees didn't know anything about them. They didn't even know anything about the shop itself. All my questions were answered with either a "I dunno" or "maybe?" When they got someone more knowledgeable, they were just insanely rude.

Even trying to get a bird feeder from them was just not an option. This place seems to have proper equipment, but I had to drive off to another pet shop just to get what I needed. The shop here was just poorly ran from staff who didn't know what their doing, to management who just weren't interested in talking to their customers. What an awful place.

This is the only place I trust now that J&M aviaries is no longer available for my bird needs. They warned me away from the vet next door, and for good reason: they're bird killers. I go here for all my pet needs and it feels good to support a local shop!

Like another reviewer on here, I bought my parakeet from them about a month ago. I was also impressed with the "handfed" option. I agree one lady was very nice though the heavier set one not so much. Anyway, her bird died but my bird is still okay, but I called to get the birth date so I could keep track of my bird's age. I even asked for just an estimate, like how many weeks.

I had asked while at the store if they had baby parakeets and the nice lady there told me immediately how many weeks they were. I was not thinking of buying one at that time, so it didn't stick with me. I forgot to ask again when I went back. I don't know why the person who answered the phone couldn't just ask them. He wanted one of the bird people to come to the phone.

They were too busy though, so he took my number so they could call back. That was about a week ago. I, too, never got a call back. I'd like to add there really is no difference between their hand fed and parent raised to justify paying double the price. They are placed with a bunch of other birds after weaning and not given any more special attention so they are not any friendlier or tamer than the parent raised.

They don't have their birds weaned on a healthy diet either. There are definitely better places to buy your bird companions from. Lesson learned. I am looking to get a green cheeked conure next, and it will not be from them.

This establishment, Lies to customer for profit. We bought a Love bird for about $50.00. That was fine but the poor bird needed acumination so they they had anther love bird that grew up with ours but wouldn't sell it to us because it had bonded with another bird. Fought as we did to get that companion bird we lost. so they tried to sell us another companion bird assuring us these would get along but if they didn't there would be NO refund.

This substitute will cost us $500.00 and if they didn't get along after 3 days cage training there would be no refund and pretty much told me to F off. Now they told my wife that these 2 birds would be fine in the same cage. Ha-ha the lie was that these two species would never be compatible and would require separate cages with defies the mating of one lonely love bird to have a buddy in the SAME cage. they are out for the money and not animal love. That's why we will never visit the F****** store. check around no refund policy is so they can replenish there inventory instead of birds wellbeing. THEY SUCK. Peter

I was so impressed with this store and how the birds were hand raised and employees were so friendly BUT we purchased a Parakeet from them, picked it up on Saturday and Monday morning it was dead in its cage. We had no idea what could have happened so i called the store and was told a manager would call me back. I waited until Wednesday and still no call so i called back.

The manager seemed very careless and frankly rude and just pretty much said " well we dont know what goes on with the bird after it leaves the store " Well Thanks alot for your help. Will not be doing buisness here again.

I really was enjoying this store until I noticed a lone guinea pig in a cage on the floor. It had no safe place to hide, and any time I walked near it it tried to hide its head in the hay rack. This is troubling because guinea pigs are prey animals and need huts and houses to hide in to feel safe. When I asked the store manager why it was in such a stark and barren cage, she replied it was because they had just put him out on display that day, which doesn't make any sense as to why he didn't have a hidey spot.

This is also troubling because I believe that when stores show of their animals in such poor conditions, it sets an example to the potential buyer that this is how animals should be treated. In all other ways I enjoyed this store. The employees were kind and the store had a great selection. But because most of the small mammals were in small unventilated cages, put on display like toys, and seemed frantic and uncomfortable, I will not be visiting here again. I do hope you take in this feedback and set a proper example of how animals should be treated!

I have had interactions with probably most of the staff and they are all very personable and make you feel like family. They treat my children very kindly, with patience and as a parent that's the most part of the store experience. I like the wide variety of animals. Literally something for everyone. Plus there is a giant tortoise and an adorable store bunny named Pinto. What more could you ask for?!?

I cannot say enough good things about this shop. They take amazing care of their animals and are extremely knowledgeable. A young guy (I wish I could remember his name) took an hour to take me through the process of starting a planted aquarium. As I left I saw him leave and realized that he had probably stayed well after his shift ended to help me. There aren't many quality pet shops left.

I stood around looking at the parrots for a good 15 minutes and had 3 different employees walk past me multiple times. No one acknowledged me. I finally asked if I could hold one of the parrots. The girl told me no because they are sold. She didn't offer me any other assistance and went along her business. I was fully planning on buying a parrot but not here.

I went to Gallery of Pets various times with in a few months looking to get a pet bird. Every time I went in everyone was super nice and helpful, Cheyenne was the one that helped me the most to find my perfect match. I got a blue and gold macaw that looked very timid but with everyone's help and knowledge I've been doing extremely well and he's been more open.

I also got a budgie for my siblings which Cheyenne also help me pick out and did a really good job! I'm very happy with my experience at Gallery of pets and will continue to shop there!

My family and I love this store! We adopted an Amazon from Gallery of Pets about seven years ago and she brings such joy to our lives. She's also incredibly talkative and loud so that joy fluctuates for sure (if you want a parrot, consider yourself warned). The other day we took her to get her wings clipped/nails trimmed and she was so comfortable with everyone there.

It was like she remembered that the store was a safe place to be. While there, I saw a hedgehog that was surrendered and fell in love with it. After as much research as I could manage in a short amount of time I came back for it. Today we came in for said hedgehog and a chameleon for my younger brother. We're just over the moon excited about them. CJ helped us with both animals.

He was super nice and patient as we went through the motions of asking questions about the pets we were taking home and he happily listened as we voiced endless fascination at the pets we sadly were not taking home (thanks again, CJ!). This is a pet store for pet lovers and you can tell the people who run this store care about their animals which is so refreshing to see.

So many pet stores, especially when it comes to exotic pets, are dirty and keep the animals in unsuitable enclosures. I often leave depressed that I can't save them all. Gallery of Pets is nothing like that. It's the best pet store I've visited and, as an animal lover, that's saying a lot.

We could not have had a better experience here! We showed up humoring the idea of getting a class pet and Randy totally sold us with his endless knowledge on all the animals there. He showed us each pet and telling us all the facts about them while being hilarious and charming. We couldn't say no! They seriously know how to hire star employees because the people here were so helpful and kind. Great work y'all! Randy we love you.

I got my dad's parrot when he passed, We had him for a few years and just turns out we are not a bird family. We talked with Gallery of pets about selling him on consignment and took him to the vet to get blood work to make sure he was healthy. They ended up selling him for 40% of the price we agreed on without talking to me at all. Sent a lot of emails to get my half and several phone calls.

They sold him months ago and the guy was making payments. Didn't reach out to me at all and ignored the emails. After the price at the vet I gave him away at this point and there is nothing that can be done. All she said is sorry. I would really think about taking business elsewhere if you are thinking about doing the same. There is a good chance I will take them to small clams court.

This pet shop is everything that's right with pet shops. It's a local business operated for 42 years in Austin, TX. I love that. I also love the employees here. Very knowledgeable and friendly. I came here to get my daughter a parakeet and that's when I realized how special this place is. Kathy is the store manager and she is very helpful. Kara and Denny are the bird experts. Denny helped us so much that we owe much of our parakeet's happiness to his expert advice on cage toys! I recommend this store whole heartedly if you're looking to buy a bird.

I've been coming here since 1977. I love this place. I'm bringing my own children now. They have grain free cat and dog foods. They have awesome treats, toys and supplies. They have fish, bunnies, turtles, birds, reptiles, and fuzzy small animals. Always an fun visit. The African tortoise walking around tops it all!

Absolutely unbelievable. When going there to get a first bird for teenage grand child, was astounded at how knowledgeable these people are. Incredibly they won't sell you a bird until you bring the cage in and they get the bird used to it for a couple of days (there's NO charge for this). A friend gave us a cage, but the spacing on the bars was too large for the small parakeet we bought.

So we bought a proper cage. They helped set it up with the things we needed (which we had no knowledge about - millet holder, toy, pumice perch, etc.) They put our little parakeet in it with a companion. They'll will weigh him and make sure he's eating properly and comfortable in the cage. This is a couple of days or a week. Then we can take him home. They're there 7 days a week to answer questions in person or on the phone. They'll trim feathers anytime (except Sundays) for free. Forever. $10 a year puts you into their Pet Club, which gives you a 10% discount.

I saved more than $10 already and haven't even brought our bird home yet. Shopping at this store brought me back to the early 1960s, when customer service actually was more than a phrase and meant something. Pretty cool to see them giving "Alice" her breakfast. This huge tortoise got led to her meal with a squash. I couldn't imagine EVER going to another pet store in Austin.
