All pets love unconditionally, but older ones love more deeply. They've been around the block a few times, and they've seen the best and worst of humanity. I joined GRR because I was so inspired by the great love GRR has for the dogs, how GRR really puts their actions behind their words and will go to ANY length to rescue a golden from dire circumstances into a forever wonderful life! I have been greatly and personally helped to be an even better dog owner through much ongoing training and education!

Gold Ribbon Rescue, Inc. (GRR) was founded in 1998 to meet three objectives. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization as recognized by the IRS. GRR's main function is to provide a network for sheltering, rehabilitation and placing Golden Retrievers in permanent homes in Central Texas. GRR's second function is to provide public education about responsible dog ownership and, in particular, about the Golden Retriever breed.
Questions or comments for the Board of Directors? We value your input. Please send a note to grrboard@grr-tx.com and include "Questions For The Board" in the subject line. We hope to hear from you! Gold Ribbon Rescue does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, ancestry, disability, sexual orientation or military status, in any of its activities or operations.
Our goal is to ensure every Golden experiences a high quality of life. While 99% of our Goldens find loving homes, a small number are best served by receiving life-long care from the GRR Permanent Foster program. The GRR Permanent Foster program is designed to ensure, and when possible enhance, the quality of life for rescued Goldens when adoption is not a viable option due to medical condition, behavioral issues or a hospice situation.
Gold Ribbon Rescue has certain guidelines that need to be followed when you adopt one of our dogs. Gold Ribbon Rescue no longer adopts dogs to families with children under the age of 8 years old (repeat adopters will be considered on a case by case basis). Gold Ribbon Rescue does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, ancestry, disability, sexual orientation or military status, in any of its activities or operations.

We applied here when looking for a dog recently. Application fee is required, $25. According to them: "Rescued Golden Retrievers can have all sorts of issues that come with them as a result of what they have lived through before being taken into rescue. Rescued Goldens, in general, are not well trained and require intensive amounts of time and training to make them good" What is this? Saying that you never receive and thus won't have available Golden's that have no serious problems makes no sense whatsoever.
You should make these uncommon requirements apparent on the website because we've applied to you guys before and been denied when other rescues had no issue with our requirements and application. Honestly it feels like a scam to get more applications to deny and thus make money on the required application fee. Is this how the rescue intends to come off?

Bailey has been suspected of being a poop eater since his first few weeks at home. The other day, it was confirmed. Today, Bailey was caught red-handed (literally- he's a Ginger) with poop in his mouth again. If I wasn't so busy being disgusted, I would've snapped a photo for dogshaming.com. Where is he now? Oh ya know, just lying in bed with his MOUTH on my leg. I've yet to move said leg. Now, if that isn't love then I don't know what love is. Thanks, GRR!

I have now adopted more than one dog from Gold Ribbon Rescue over these many years, the first when GRR first started; the last, just a year ago. It's good to know that, with over a decade under their belt, their care and commitment to saving and rehoming Goldens has not changed. Could you find a Golden elsewhere? Yes. Could you get one faster? Yes. (In fact, I contacted a "breeder" who was more than willing to sell me a Golden without my even needing to fill out an application or provide any information on how I would care and provide for the dog - yikes!).
But GRR offers Goldens who has been vetted, medical concerns noted, socialized, housebroken, determined to be good with kids/cats/other dogs or not, had their temperment reviewed and show no aggression (yes, Virginia, even Goldens, as sweet as they are, have been the victim of indiscriminate backyard breeding). Oh yes, and they've also offered us something even better - cute, loving, happy additions to our family. When that sad day comes, and it will, and when our hearts mend, we will come back to GRR for our next addition - time and time again.
