Lucky is a pretty flame point Siamese kitten who came to the shelter with a broken front leg. We don't know what happened to her but we took her to an orthopedic vet who fixed her bone with a metal plate. She is now in a foster home with instructions to keep her from running, jumping, or playing for six weeks! Her prognosis for a comprehensive recovery is very nice.

Coming from someone who WORKS at a humane society, and sees the way our front desk staff talk to strangers, compared to st. helens is actually crazy, i call about a cat of mine and i tell the lady what's going on, she immediately tells me to put her down, not nicely either, put her down? is the way she said it, learn some compassion and grow some heart if you're going to be working with living animals, it's not that hard to show a little bit of care :

Whoever works here is extremely rude! We submitted an application to adopt one of the young pups. Some how I received an application from another adopter and they received mine. I also received an email from the shelter that they tried to call and then instantly another saying that was not for me, then before I could respond got a call. I informed her of the application mix up and she demanded the name.
She was very rude. She then informed me that we were not suitable because we have a male dog and I asked for clarification, not being rude just to understand if it was aggression or another reason! Her response and tone of voice were extremely disrespectful as if I had just offended her. Then she went on to explain that because this dog was large breed, Great Dane, and I have a 2 year old he could not be placed with us.
I totally understand in some situations this is true. He is a puppy still and we have the training and experience for this breed. I then said ok that's fine! But we currently have two Great Danes and they do wonderful with our daughter. Her entire attitude was unacceptable. She then proceeded to argue with me that large dogs shouldn't be in families with small children and that they have had them returned for this in the past.
That is 100% the fault of the shelter and adopter. The shelter for allowing a dog that size to go to a family with no large breed dog experience and not aware that large dogs can knock over small kids. The family for not doing their research regarding large dogs and small kids. Overall I regret submitting my application to a shelter who is not willing to be professional with others. I simply was confused how my personal information got released to another adopter. She didn't need to be out of line.

We filled out an application for one of their dogs and got back a terse two-line e-mail saying that they want the dog to go to "more of a rural setting." No information to that effect was ever incorporated into the ad for the animal, and if the shelter's administrators had done some actual due diligence about us, they would have seen that our large private property abuts a seven-acre undeveloped park where dogs can run/exercise. Ridiculously discriminatory and unprofessional.

This place is horrible and honestly looks disgusting and ran down. I have read these reviews and those commenting about going thru the adoption process then denied are completly correct. They have no problem taking your money, allowing you to even bond with a pup, then saying no that you are all of a sudden not a good fit. It came across very obvious when seeing this place they are hurting for money.
I believe they collect, spend it and then deny adoption and refund when they have the funds to give back. It is so dirty you feel like you need a shower and a tetanus shot. The gal running it is not for the animals she only wants to the money.

I don't want to discourage anyone from "rescuing" a 400 dollar dog, if anything these dogs definitely need a way out of that place. Poor pups are left outside 24/7. But be careful! There's no guarantee they'll return the pet to you after the spay. It's not in their contract so they don't have to, even if you've loved and invested in the dog for months.
They're rude and yell. I was told by a volunteer that they are trained to be emotionless and mean; it's sickening. I hope this place shuts down and those fur babies get new homes. Until then I won't rest on this issue. Karma be.

I was almost frightened off this place, by the few bad reviews, but I got to meet a fine man, Roger and that was all I needed to know about the Animal Rescue and the CCHS. They truly care about the animals they protect. Unfortunately I was unable to find a dog I could be paired with, but I enjoyed the dog I made friends with. The kitties were beautiful and I hope they all find good homes. Well done CCAR AND CCHS.

My husband and I visited a dog that we were interested in on a Wednesday in November. The staff was helpful and things seemed great. We were very interested in him. The staff recommended we bring the kids that Saturday to make sure everyone got along. The kids were very very excited. My husband took them in on Saturday, however much to the disappointment of the kids and my husband, they were told that Duncan could only go home to a home with another dog.
The kids were devastated! Nothing was said about that criteria when we turned in the application on Wednesday and no one bothered to let us know that they changed their mind. There was nothing on the site that said Duncan needed to go to a home with another dog. I understand that the dogs must be placed in a home that is a good fit, but it would have been nice to be informed of the decision before bringing the children over to meet him. I am not pleased with how things were handled.

Seriously so impressed with this place and the staff. I had looked at about four other humane societies in the area and it was clear that these people really do care about their animals and make sure that they find the right fit for the owners. Very passionate and knowledgeable people who are able to describe each dog to a tee. I ended up with an awesome dog and could not be more happy with.
Take a look at the website or call in ahead of time because they do put all the dogs on display like traditional shelters.reduces anxiety for the dogs which I think is great!
