Dr. Ritchie is the ONLY Board Certified Veterinary Dentist residing in the state of Louisiana. At Perkins Road Veterinary Hospital Dr. Ritchie performs full and complete dental and oral health care. This includes feline stomatitis, endodontics (root canals), prosthodontics (crowns, restorations), oral surgery (surgical extractions, oral cancer, fracture repair), periodontics (treatment of periodontal pockets and bone regeneration) and orthodontics for the treatment of traumatic malocclusions. He treats referral patients for the LSU Veterinary School at his hospital, and practices locally and statewide as well.
If you see your pet doing excessive amounts of itching, scratching, rubbing, or licking, or having red or tough skin, greasy skin, or a yeasty smell, or recurrent ear infections, your pet may be showing the classic symptoms of allergic reactions. The typical triggers of allergy symptoms include flea saliva, dust, mites, plant and grass pollens, molds and fungi.
Dental care is vital to the overall health of any animal. Yet all too often, dental diseases cause our pets to suffer in silence due to significant pain and infection. Dental diseases may lead to adverse health consequences with the heart, liver, and kidneys, and can negatively affect the overall well-being of your pet.
Keeping your loved ones safe and happy is of primary importance to us. Emergencies don't always happen during regular office hours. The highest quality of care is what we provide for our clients during the day. After hours care should be of no exception. This is why we recommend all of our clients to seek emergency treatment at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine.

IF YOU ONLY READ ONE REVIEW, PLEASE READ THIS ONE!: If I could give this clinic 100 stars I would! By far THE BEST vet clinic in Baton Rouge. The staff treats the patients as their own and they go above and beyond to not only be compassionate, but they also strive for excellence in their care. Our dog (a 12yo Goldendoodle named Loxley) had a tumor that showed up on her face over Easter break and it was growing at an alarming rate (almost doubling every day).

We showed up (more like ambushed) this clinic the next Monday morning before they opened (with no appointment). Not only did they see us, but they were able to put us on the schedule the next day. When we arrived to pick Loxley up after the surgery, one of the team members was actually holding one of the other dogs that just came out of recovery just to soothe the dog.

Upon arriving to pick up our dog, Dr. Ritchie met with us, and explained the (rather extensive) surgery and also showed us pictures/scans, so we could see exactly what was done. I feel compelled to also add that the surgery would have left Loxley disfigured, but Dr. Ritchie went above and beyond and added a "plastics" portion to her procedure to minimize the defect from the surgery.

There is no way I can accurately put into words how grateful, appreciative and thankful we are for Dr. Ritchie and his staff. Personally, if I needed oral surgery, I would not be concerned if Dr. Ritchie worked on me. I have never seen that level of detail and compassion from ANY doctor, let alone a vet. Baton Rouge is very lucky that pet owners have access to such a talented and compassionate group.

These folks are great! There is rarely a wait, plenty of helpful and cheerful staff, and knowledgeable vets. I feel great about their services and recommend to any and all!

Very friendly people. After adopting 2 kittens in 2 months (one on purpose, the other by chance) I was looking for a new Vet closer to my house. I wasn't in a hurry but one of the kittens got an infected abscess from being feral for too long and I needed expert care quickly. I called Perkins Road Vet and at first they couldn't fit me in that afternoon but after I told them about my sick kitten the nice receptionist said she could make an exception and fit me in at the end of the day.

I was EXTREMELY APPRECIATIVE. When I arrived they were super cool and saw me and my two babies immediately. The Dr and her nurse were pleasant and thorough and I never felt like they were rushing things just to quit for the day. They TRULY cared about my kittens and fixed the sick one up best they could, giving me the antibiotics and all that good stuff to finish the job.

They scheduled a follow-up the next week but by 3 days later the abscess was healed and the kittens fever was down. The next visit we began all the vaccines and blood work, the usual kitten stuff. Same deal, pleasant and thorough and acting like they really enjoyed animals and helping them stay healthy. I've had a few cats and other vets in the past, I can honestly say that these are the nicest people I've dealt with and I'll be visiting them from now on

This is the best vet hospital in baton rouge. They loved and took great care of my puppy even after the visit ended. They blessed my dog with another chance of life that other vets didn't offer. Dr. Ritchie was available through email throughout my dog's cancer diagnosis. They treated my baby like family even after he passed. My new puppy will def be a patient for Dr. Ritchie.

Many years ago I brought my dying cat there to be euthanized and cremated. I was crying my heart out. The vet shoved a large needle into my cat and my cat screamed. I did not want my little cat to leave feeling cruelty at a place where I brought her to leave this world. I left her to be cremated and I regret it now. I will never have a pet cremated again. Bury your pets and don't cremate them. Shame on vets who take their frustrations out on their clients pets!

Thank you Dr. Ritchie at Perkins Road Veterinary Hospital for taking the best care of my baby and to the staff for all the updates during surgery. Home for rest, healing and a with new calorie suppliment to help with weight because he's lost a pound! They made me feel so comfortable with such a huge procedure on my senior fellow!

Dr. Curt Ritchie and staff were very kind and professional. I wanted an experienced oral surgeon for my geriatric cat's tooth removal. My vet friend stressed how important it is that I find a vet who takes x-rays of the mouth before doing surgery. Most veterinarians don't do this. So, I called around and found Dr. Ritchie. Tootsie's a very nervous cat and an awful traveler.

She screamed the entire 1 hour drive there! The technician and vet were very good with handling her and talked to her as if she were their own. She ended up needing 3 teeth extracted. Surgery went well, and she woke up vocalizing (as usual!). They sent me home with a topical pain cream to apply to her ear, instead of oral medicine (thankfully!). She did really well once we got her home and recovered nicely. My geriatric male needs his teeth looked at as well. I know exactly where I'm bringing him, even if it is an hour drive (and horrible traffic). It's worth it!

They'll treat your pets nice and even recognize them when they come in. Really nice people but you will pay a premium for the animal hospital atmosphere.

My Tessie passed away 3 days shy of her 15th birthday. Though they didn't know us from Adam, they were loving, kind and compassionate and took great care of my baby. She was cremated and put in a small wooden box. I will always remember their love of a little dog they never even met and their kindness to my family in our hour of despair.

We have had a great experience with Perkins Road Vet - one year old cat and six month old puppy. They remember us when we call and show up for appointments and are always willing to answer questions or give advice.

Over priced. They were charging me $60 to clean out his ears where at his new vet only charges $20. Also, they would make me come back 2 weeks after his ear cleaning to make sure there was no infection and charged me for a full exam when all he did was lift my dogs ears. While we went through the run around a couple of times with this by the first visit of my new vet she said my dog had a staph infection and that's why my dogs ears looked the way they did but Some how after all this "check up exams" they charged me for at Perkins road vet hospital they never noticed this.

There are a few other things as well. When I confronted them about their pricing the way I was spoken to was completely unprofessional. That right there was enough for me to never come back. They were so rude to me when I simply asked why it was priced the way it was. Don't recommend!

Not sure how many people consult Yelp for health care professionals, but we wish we could give them 6 stars. Hard to imagine a clinic with a better combination of excellence in practitioner skills and ultimate caring for our pet.

If you are looking for outstanding quality and care for your dog or cat, especially for issues related to oral and dental health, Perkins Road Veterinary Hospital is the only place you need visit. I was referred to PRVH because my 11-year-old basset hound needed extensive oral surgery requiring multiple extractions and the repair of an oronasal fistula. Dr. Curt Ritchie and his staff spent the first part of our consultation building a rapport with my girl.

This was extremely important to me because I promised my dog when we rescued each other that from that day forward she would have a good life for the rest of her days. After the examination, Dr. Ritchie carefully explained what he was going to do and made sure that all of my questions were answered and fears were allayed before I scheduled the surgery.

On the day of the surgery, I was kept updated on my girl's status and in the days following the surgery, the staff called to check up on their patient. Dr. Ritchie and his staff made sure that I was able to keep my promise and his work improved my girl's quality of life immeasurably. She was always a sweet and happy girl, but her sweetness and happiness has increased exponentially in the 5+ weeks since her surgery.

High quality care at very reasonable prices for exams and shots. After years of struggling with digestive problems with my cat, Dr. Ritchie advised me to try a very easy and inexpensive solution that was never recommended to me to before. A few weeks later, problem solved. I feel that Dr. Ritchie is very attentive to details and less likely to jump to the most expensive solution first and instead start with practical, conservative measures before asking patients to fork out hundreds of dollars. After taking both my cat and my dog in for health problems in the last 6 months, I'm very happy with the care given by Dr. Ritchie and his staff.

The vets at Perkins Road Vet Hospital are smart and caring, but if you're looking for a good deal, they're not the ones to go to. They charged me over $100 for antibiotics for my dog which they gave to me at the clinic at checkout, but I could have easily gotten the same thing at Walmart for $4. I will no longer take my dog to them because I believe that part of treating a patient with respect is not gouging them for their money.
