Services
Veterinary Services was the first veterinary hospital in Aiken, South Carolina, established in 1950 by Dr. Grady McElmurray. Dr. Holly Woltz (Doc Holly) bought the practice in 1987 and through the years has gradually added staff (now totaling approximately 20 supporting staff and two veterinarians).
These are folks that we (and your pet) can't do without. They are constantly learning by taking continuing education courses to be knowledgeable with all aspects of nursing, surgical, dental emergency procedures, and more. Every morning they meet with each anesthesia patient and human to discuss the forthcoming procedure.
Our veterinarians offer preventive care, wellness exams and services for kittens, puppies, cats, and dogs. Diagnostic imaging allows our veterinarians to look at your pet internally for clues about sickness or injury. Dental care is an essential part of your pet's overall health to prevent dental disease and tooth loss.
Let Veterinary Services of Aiken provide professional veterinary care for your kitten, puppy, cat, or dog. A physical exam is the smartest and easiest way to keep your pet healthy. Wellness exams allow our veterinarians to detect problems and diseases that might go undiscovered otherwise, including heart murmurs, tumors, enlarged organs, cataracts, ear infections, ear mites, dental disease, skin issues and allergies.

Would not recommend anymore. Made us wait in our car, in the cold. Didn't get our pup until 20 minutes after appt time. We walked our pup around the grass a few times for relief, then the vet asked us to leave him there to get a urine sample, which they charged us a boarding fee for! If they do not want us inside, then get our pup on arrival and let us know when to pick up.
Why make us wait in the parking lot!?! Poor customer service! Too much up charging in the last 2 years! When we got home, our pup drank 2 bowls of water! They must of dehydrated him! He has never drank that much at one time, ever! No more face to face care with vet here, they are covid crazy scared. We miss Doc Holly and the personal she gave. It has really gone downhill over the last few years. Every visit is now over 200 dollars without explaining first, nor asking permission if we can afford all the charges. We are now vet poor broke. Know before you go.

Vets are knowledgeable and skilled. Veterinary services are good. Very happy with vets & most techs. Practice management is sometimes lacking. Have experienced lost appointments, incorrect billing, and poor communication/no follow up. Practice does have some emergent appointments, but if you do not call when they first open, you probably won't get one.

The staff was very friendly. I didn't know what to expect when I brought my dog in. Every staff member that interacted with my dog was very calm and even though my dog tends to bite people when he's nervous they still took good care of him. They gave him treats and even explained to me the different tests that they were performing what they were looking for basically they kept me informed whereas the last vet I went to did not keep me informed.

I've been bringing my dogs buddy and Lucy there for years and they are wonderful! Buddy is a very nervous dog, so the fact that they have made him feel comfortable enough to eat treats at the vet services is very important to me and I am very thankful to have a good caring vet especially Dr Douglas she is the best! All the staff are super sweet and you can tell they are true animal lovers which is so important when looking for a good vet!

I would really like to give this facility five stars, The vets and the technicians are experienced and polite! However the administrative group upfront has a lot of work to do. I understand working at a veterinarian office can be chaotic at times but there's no reason to be rude to the customers especially when they're there because their animals are in need, there's no need to be rude to people on the phone and there's no need for them to be rude to one another: arguing about who supposed to do what and who left who on hold.
I did not feel welcomed and I also heard a "Lisa " making a joke about" dogs dying" and how she " didn't care because they didn't have room anyway ". 100% unacceptable and I'll be sure to tell everyone I know. I would love to recommend the facility because the vets and the technicians work so hard & are great at what they do except you're only as good as your weakest link. Lisa was very rude, passive aggressive, overworked & insensitive. & she works upfront, so what greeting!

Not an actual hospital. If your pet is sick and needs assistance over the weekend, they will ask you to drive somewhere else with the pet. This is not a hospital. They advertised as such. Also, you will consistently get charges for services you did not order and higher amounts than you thought you would pay.

The care and compassion displayed by the Veterinary Services of Aiken staff, particularly Lynn Nelson, up to and including my cat's (Jet, 15 years old) departure was heartwarming and sincere. It is a delicate event to let go of a "family member", and at no time did I feel rushed with my goodbyes or any part of the process. They allowed as much time and space needed to be alone with her before I left her for the final time.
They are incredibly dedicated to their occupation as it was displayed in their demeanors and comforting words. Though you treated her a short duration, thank you all for caring for her when she was not in my arms. Now she's in the warmest of arms, our Lord. My sincere thanks!

This is hands down one of my favorite vet offices ever. The people here are incredibly nice and they take such great care of the animals they take care of. Please, if you live in Aiken, get in contact with this place because they are absolutely amazing. Their prices aren't expensive at all, and their focus is making sure your pet gets the care that they need.
I don't even live here anymore, but anytime I'm in town I bring my pets here for a check-up each year. I hope you guys know just how much I appreciate you and everything you do for me and my pets. Thank you so much for every single thing you do.

I have been taking my 2 cats here for about six years. They have both had oral surgery here with great results. The doctors and staff are amazing people. They love animals and love their jobs. I went today for our annual check-up and was surprised to find a nice new cat waiting area separated from the dogs. (I love dogs, but my cats don't!) I didn't get to enjoy it as they sent me right to the exam room and we were attended to quickly.
I don't know how they keep the place so immaculately clean with so many animals in and out all day. Most highly recommended! Update: one of my cats is now suffering from chronic kidney failure. The doctors and staff saved her life! She suddenly got very sick and had to stay in the hospital for five days. During her stay, the doctors called to update me at least once a day.
This was in Feb. 2018 and now in July 2018 my cat is celebrating her 10th birthday, on prescription food and sub-cu fluid treatment at home but living a happy, comfortable life due to the care of everyone at AVS. Thank you so much!

This practice has been nothing but good to us and our pets since we moved to Aiken. They met us at the clinic the Sunday after Thanksgiving when we had to euthanize our beloved 15 year old Bearded Collie. They have treated our 15 year old cat with multiple chronic issues. And they have seen another cat for an annual physical. They order our dog's special diet food and call us when it is ready to be picked up. I am extremely pleased with the vets and the techs.

I had a 5 1/2 y/o Dachshund whom I made sure she had what she needed with all her health needs. She became sick and I was told she would have to have surgery. I am retired/disabled and on social security with a limited monthly income. My experience, with them, was that if payment couldn't be paid at time of service, in full, then they weren't going to help.
No payment plan offered to help save my little sweetheart and companion. She died in my arms from renal problems that I feel could of been avoided if they had worked with me. My overall assessment is that if you can't pay, in full, at time of service they seem to not care if your pet is saved or not. It seems to only be about the money and not the health of your pet. I pay my bills and would of paid them, in full eventually, in monthly payments.

The service for my pet was good, but the overall experience was terrible! I went in for follow up shots for dog and was recommended to get my dog spayed. I prepaid the costs of the surgery upfront since I was going to be working out of town and my girlfriend would be the one returning my dog the next week for the procedure. I had also asked that the vet check my dog's skin because it seemed that she had been breaking out.
When I got home I realized that I was overcharge by $50. It was brought to their attention and it was refunded to me. My girlfriend dropped off my dog the day of the appointment and she was told that pick up would be a quick process which was great because she gets her lunch break in 30 minute increments. She got to the clinic to pick up my dog 10 minutes early and it still took around 30 minutes which led her to be late returning to work.
On top of that she was presented with a bill for over $100 for skin treatment and medication for my dogs skin! We were only looking for a diagnosis NOT TREATMENT! It would have been nice to have been given a courtesy call to inform us of any undisclosed charges instead of deciding for us. I will be looking for another vet clinic after this horrible and costly experience.

I used a vet over 2 hours away and when my doc became ill I took him there first. But on arrival he perked up and the doctor couldn't see what I saw. so when he declined rapidly the following day, I called this location to check on euthanasia services. I scheduled them for 5 that day. but after speaking to his vet, she sounded like she thought it was to soon.
I changed it to a second opinion appointment and began to take video. Went went that day and met a wonderful vet. and he did not perk up this time. I showed her the videos and she said "it looks neurological and there would be nothing we can do". she then suggested I spend a few last days with him and return on Saturday morning. That is what we did.
My only reason for 4 stars is because I should have come on a day when she would do it and not a vet I hadn't met. Also, it would have made me feel better if the vet stopped calling him a her. making me feel like I was letting a complete stranger take care of his final moments. I stayed with him. I would never leave him in that time. They did a great service and offer cremation and a paw print. I'm glad to have had those options. they are all I have left. The staff are very empathetic and I would recommend them to anyone for care.

Being new to the area, I was a bit apprehensive about finding a really good knowledgeable vet in such a small town. I never expected to find an entire clinic of truly A-1, first rate veterinarians. My 18 year old cat and I felt truly fortunate. The staff and doctors are all extremely caring. I especially liked being given so many treatment options, when there was an ailment, and having each thoroughly explained to me. Of all the vets I've been to over the years, I think I would have to rate this one the very best!

We recently moved to the area and needed a new vet. Not too long after arriving our cat got some sort of rash. We brought her here and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The doctor figured out the problem quickly and was also very friendly. Best of all, the cost for the service was much cheaper than our old veterinarian, and even with two follow ups we were not charged extra. I think we have found our new vet. Very happy with the service

I took my cat there today for a foot injury. I found my vet to be caring and kind as usual. I asked the front desk if I could update my check for a week since it was $170.00 for a exam and ex-ray. In the past my vet offered to let me pay next time for my visit but we paid anyway since we still had some reserve left after my husband was laid off. We always pay our bills so when I asked to update the check I didn't think it would be a big deal.
Apparently I was wrong. The front clerk went to the office manager and I could tell from a distance that they were talking negative about me. They said I had to pay it and while I called to ask my husband for the credit card he was using to survive on out of state at his new job the office manager was giving me nasty looks. I would still be at my old vet of 15 years if I hadn't moved out of state.
Oh and I always paid them too. Unfortunately there seems to be a power struggle going on between the office manager and the vet because they wouldn't even let me talk to my vet. I had another issue about a prescription not long ago where the front desk was rude. I view my vet as a important person in my life since I value my pets as if they are family.
I cannot stay at a place where I am treated with such disrespect over a pymt arrangement. I have to look at the vet appointment as a whole and I will not take my pets and endorse a place that employs spiteful people. Linda

Holly Woltz has been our family vet for at least 20 years. She is a consummate professional and meticulous if her choice of partners and staff. I never worry which vet I will see when I take in a pet. Her facility has been AAHA certified for 32 years. It is always clean and well stocked. Staff is professional, well groomed, courteous and knowledgeable.
I have had just about every service available provided including a very professional and compassionate experience when I had to euthanize a pet. I would recommend Veterinary Services without reservation.
