Matthews Animal Clinic opened in 1968, when Matthews was a small town with one grocery, one barber and two hardware stores. Back then, we were a full-service clinic, providing healthcare services for companion animals, farm animals and horses alike. It wasn't unusual to see a horse trailer in the parking lot, or come in to find that the doctor was out delivering a calf. That all changed as Matthews started to grow. In 1977, we became a two-veterinarian practice and by 1996, we were a five-veterinarian practice.
Services
Office manager Jeanne Saxon has been part of the Matthews Animal Clinic staff for more than 45 years. She is a native of Iowa and moved to Charlotte when she was 15 years old. Jeanne is a devoted Carolina Panther fan, football season is her favorite and she can be found at all Panther home games. Jeanne has two dogs, Louise and Martha and one cat Sixty.

There are few more commonly relied upon medical tools than radiographs - also known popularly as X-rays. As part of our commitment to provide you with the best medical care for your pet, Matthews Animal Clinic has invested in a state-of-the-art digital X-ray machine. X-rays are useful in examining your pet's bones, lungs, heart, abdomen, oral cavity and other areas.

We have been happy with Matthews for years and years. They are really good with my crazy border collie, my fear aggressive mutt and my other two anxious mutts. They have always taken good care of our cats, and Dr. Baron has always gone above and beyond for us. (Every vet we have seen has been great, though)

I recently took a new rescue dog to Matthews Animal Clinic for his first ever vet appointment. I also brought my 12 year old dog along for a rabies vaccination. The vet was amazing. He was very gentle with the rescue dog and took him to the back for procedures that might scare the dog. He didn't want this new dog to associate anything painful or unpleasant with his new mom.
But what really impressed me was that he took the time to look at my older dog's records and asked how she was doing with her medication that she doesn't like to take. Well, she wasn't doing any better because getting her to take a chewable pill that she hates isn't easy. He offered to get her prescription compounded in liquid form and find a pharmacy that would do that. It is now so easy to give her her medicine! All the vets are wonderful here, but Dr Pritchett is a super star!

We have been going Matthews Animal Clinic for 12 years now and they are truly the best! For annual visits to surgeries to emergencies they are the kindest caring efficient group of veterinarians I've ever dealt with. I've always had large dogs and they sit on the floor with them to make them comfortable. We see Dr. Thompson but over the years we have probably seen everyone of the Dr's and that is so reassuring that no matter who you see they are all amazing. The staff is equally as attentive knowledgeable and caring. Lily LOVES MATTHEWS ANIMAL CLINIC and so do her parents!

Called after getting a vaccination reminder in the mail. Wanted to get copies of the vaccinations, which I still haven't gotten and was told would be emailed as soon as we hung up. Was initially told both of my dogs were good until August. Then why did I get the card? They claimed the dog I was calling about was all set. She asked the dogs name multiple times, then kept mixing the two up, giving me the information for the wrong dog, telling me he didn't need any vaccines.
She then asked the dogs name again (3rd time), and thought that my girlfriends name was the dogs name. This woman, "Linda or Lisa", seriously sounded drunk/ high or a combination of both. Slurred speech, kept putting me on hold, took forever to give any reliable information. I think, she scheduled an appointment, which I found out later is not needed for a rabies vaccine.
So I still don't know if she made an appointment for me. Just terrible communication all around. The reason we needed the vaccines is we are moving, thankfully back near our reliable vet where a 2 minute phone call for basic info doesn't feel like pulling teeth.

I was shocked seeing my dog that comfortable around other people when he's usually a lot more nervous. They did amazing taking care of him, and gave me a quick rundown of the issue he was experiencing and provided a solution for us. The nearly clean bill of health I came back home with today brought my mom to tears from how happy she was, and he's already running around and feeling better after his first allergy shot. We're over the moon, and it was worth every penny. Highly recommended! :
