Betty White was an animal lover known for her charitable work and advocacy for creature causes. Join the Challenge and donate in her name. Please meet Dexter. He is our new spokes' dog for all of the seniors who are surrendered to HSCC looking for a new home and in need of some extra help. As a Grey Muzzle Organization Grant Recipient we were able to start the Dexter Amici Grigi Project (Dexter's Grey Friends Project) Now with a very generous donation of medical equipment and the upcoming addition of new senior dog housing from the JES Avanti Foundation, we will be able to provide senior dogs the great start they need at finding a new home.

Need proper signs posted for kittens. Rude workers. I've never had a bad experience until my last visit. We were thinking about adopting another kitten but after the experience we had with the lady with all the Piercings and tattoos I decided not to. There are other places I can adopt from. Worth it just so we don't have to see her again!

We were called and told we were approved to adopt a dog and were given an appointment to meet and greet. When we arrived, we were told that the dog was given to someone else! What a disappointment. And the staff were not sympathetic to us but made us feel it was our fault. What a shame! We are seniors and will adapt. What if it was a small child who was counting on going to get their new pet and then had their dreams shattered! This organization needs to examine and fix their adoption process!

Last month, we adopted a truly wonderful adult dog from Charles County Humane Society. We searched for a bichon or bichon mix, having had several before, and Sulo is all we hoped for - gentle, amazingly well-behaved, and he fits right into our home and family. Sulo was easy from day one, but began acting as if he really knew he was "home" after just a few weeks. Sulo was a stray, so there was no information about him to predict such a great outcome.
We are so lucky to have him! Working with CCHS was just right. They checked us out - as well they should - but adapted their processes to fit our needs, especially because we had to travel a fair way to get Sulo. The staff was friendly and professional - I was touched that they followed up within the first week to ask how we were doing. Our one surprise in the process is that Sulo, according to our vet, is probably several years older than CCHS had estimated. He's no less wonderful, but we're a little sad that that means we may have him for fewer years than we would like. We'll just have to pack more love into that shorter time!

Beyond disappointed and hurt for my daughters. We were approved this morning for a kitten. We called IMMEDIATELY after getting our approval email. The woman on the phone said we were the first to call and the kitten was still available. Their kittens must be adopted in pairs but they had no other kitten available to pair him. So the woman on the phone said she'd call us in an hour once she found him a friend.
We called after about 3 hrs. No answer. Called again twice. No answer. Finally I email them and they tell me the kitten has been adopted! My husband calls because we're very confused at this point. A woman answers and has NO EXPLANATION as to how/why this happened. And she seemed annoyed by my inquiring about how the kitten was adopted and we were the first to call in and were waiting on THEM to send the link so we could pay!
This was a horrible way to treat people. If they found applicants with a kitty already in the home to be his companion they could've at least had the decency to email us. We waited all day to hear from them expecting to pick our fur baby up just to have him given away and them not even tell us.

Prior to the coronavirus outbreak, this facility was one we visited often. As a homeschooling family, the Humane Society of Charles County offers classes for homeschoolers that my children absolutely adore. Since the outbreak, there was a wonderful fostering program in place that many people have supported, including my family. The people who work in this facility absolutely are devoted to helping animals and getting them into a good home.
There is a clinic attached to the facility. There is a classroom, as mentioned above earlier, to help teach and learn more about animals and biology. I cannot say enough about the wonderful staff here. We have gotten three of our cats from this place and we absolutely adore them all. Fostering and adopting is easy to do. Please consider supporting or volunteering for this Humane Society if you are able. The rewards are boundless.
