Kansas Humane Society was founded in 1888 and is one of the oldest non-profit organizations in the Wichita area. We take in nearly 16,000 animals every year. Community support is essential as we receive no funds from the city, county, state or United Way and have no affiliation with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).
Working cats must be securely confined in the barn or other structure for 2-4 weeks. Are you prepared to allow this much time? This will help the cats establish and increase the likelihood that the cats stick around the property. In all my 53 years raising 5 children we have always found our pets at shelters. (Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma and Germany) I have never seen so much chaos and confusion as I did at this shelter. They rudely ran us out of two cat areas telling us they were doing visits. Is that not what the visitation rooms are for? Come to find out there were a bunch of people waiting.
They need to explain the process or at least post signs explaining it. Better yet do " visits" in a "visitation room" many of which were empty, so others can look while you do so.

The staff are rude and not understanding! I took my dog to do a meet with another dog that I was potentially going to adopt. There is a rude staff member as I was walking around looking at the dogs. And the staff that did the dog meet we're over the top rude left me for 10 minutes in the hallway with my dog And did not help me so I just decided to leave!

It was clear and very organized they really care about the animals and who they go to. We looked at 2 other dogs and unfortunately they didn't get along with our 2 girls but the last one our girls and her got along and she ended up coming home with us. The humane society is really dedicated to finding homes for their animals!

My husband and I had a very good experience adopting our kitten from here. We arrived earlier in the day on a Saturday and only had to wait about 10 minutes. We were able to walk around freely and explored their little shop while we waited. Every staff member we talked to was very friendly and helpful. The adoption process was simple and smooth and didn't take long at all. I would definitely adopt here again if we decide to get any more animals in the future.

I just adopted the best doggo ever from here, people call this place a killing field but I believe it's people who need to be retrained that dogs and cats are family and aren't to be discarded I saw a level of care here that was good, people were sad when they knew they had to put down animals. They do the best they can with what they have and I commend them for helping the animals that they are able to help like this beautiful girl, who has now found her furever home

One of the workers here named Ally is absolutely awful. Doesn't know how to provide customer service in the slightest, the way she can be sarcastic with my mother when comes in to look at a dog, is completely unacceptable. We called the front desk 11 times for them to tell us that they are short staffed and don't have the ability to answer the phone.
We called the front desk phone inside, and it wasn't even ringing. So they are completely lying to is. Milton the front desk worker isn't doing his job. If we can leave 11 voicemails all day, with no reply, and then we still show up, for them just to tell us "we can't help you". Service is completely unacceptable and laughable. Milton is incapable of front desk calls. Ally is incapable of the slightest amount of customer service.

My husband took my inlaws (who drove up from Oklahoma) to the Humane Society on 6/8/21 at about 2:30pm. They walked around and looked at the dogs available for adoption and decided they would like to meet one for potential adoption. My husband put their names in to meet the dog. They were the only ones in the waiting room and nobody acknowledged them beyond the sign-in for 40 minutes.
The ladies at the front desk were just sitting around chatting. He could see volunteers bringing dogs in and out. After 40 minutes he went up to ask that his name be removed from the list because nobody seemed to be concerned about them and his parents would look elsewhere to adopt. The lady's response was "ok, have a nice day". What bewilders me more than the wait is that so many animals have to be saved from the Kansas Humane Society by rescues or they are put down because they aren't adopted.
There was a very responsible customer potentially ready and willing to save one of the dogs and nobody seemed to care. There wasn't even an attempt to keep them from leaving, no excuse, or anything. It just breaks my heart that people staffing the facility would rather sit around laughing and talking instead of doing whatever it took to find one of the animals a home. I will no longer be donating to this organization and will donate instead to a rescue that goes above and beyond to adopt their animals.

Disappointed is not even the word. Today's staff. useless. No proper customer service etiquette whatsoever. Didn't bother to ask my husband or I if we needed anything or if they could show us around, when clearly we were looking for someone to help us. Instead. they looked down and continued to be on their phones. At least act like you have some energy to be at YOUR job. And let's not even get to the dogs. Those poor things do NOT look healthy. Please evaluate this place or shut it down.

DO NOT BRING PETS HERE. This place is the worst for any pet. They literally have them caged up and let them pee and poop where they are. The dogs are in horrible conditions. My dog was here for quarantine and she en I got him Back after 5 days he was skinny and ate like he was starving for a week. If they don't like animals why do they even work with them? I usually don't write reviews but I feel like this has to be heard! This place should be shut down

Apparently I had given this place two stars in the past. I'm updating it to one star because I had to bring my cat in, sadly, due to a recent move. After a ten second "evaluation, " they determined my cat was "too scared" and had to be euthanized on the spot. These people are evil. They get their kicks from killing animals. I wonder how they sleep at night.

We took our babies here to be neutered. 3 days later: One is in the animal hospital with an infection that is requiring iv antibiotics and the other has a nasty cough. These were very healthy dogs before being at their facility. They were given all vaccines. I tried to contact the post surgery number they provided. The only option was to leave a message and be contacted back in 24-48 hours. Our vet cannot even get in touch with them to find out the meds and doses used during the procedure. Not worth the savings, go somewhere else! So disappointed!

I received my dog from the Kansas Humane Society 5 years ago. The facilities were great, and the people were great, and the animals are great. They do very good work. The price, $150, was a bargain. They save lives. I will never again buy a dog from a breeder. When you can get such great animals, save lives, and get a bargain, what's not to like?

The Kansas Humane Society does excellent work throughout the greater Wichita area. I got my dog from there, a brindle staffordshire terrier, and she has been a charm. The process for adoption was very easy to go through, and the facility is neat and clean. When my dog got old enough I took advantage of their puppy kindergarten program, although they do offer other obedience programs as well.
Through this program I learned how to communicate to my dog and also socialize her with other puppies of the same age group. I would recommend to any of my friends to adopt from the humane society first. The people there really do care what they are doing for our four legged friends, and it shows.
