Our dog, a fox terrier and chihuahua mix, looks sort of cool with her hair shaved short. They didn't seem to trim her nails though. We just brought her in for a complete cleaning (wash, brush her teeth, take care of anal glands) but the owner suggested the haircut. She shows her age more with the short hair cut but is still full of energy.

Brought in 3 dogs and came out with 3 dogs with puppy cuts! Absolutely adorable. One of our dogs had a curled nail that was becoming painful for her- I'm sure it wasn't an easy job but the groomers managed to take care of all of that. She came home looking spiffy! I only wish they were able to file the nails, but other than that, no complaints.

My hubby and I have been bringing our furr baby to this company for years. But they've lost their very best employee "Ashley" (she moved to another state). There's another person there that we like and her name is Vicky. But she hasn't been quite on her game lately. The last 2 times we brought our furr baby - his toenails weren't clipped, his breath was smelly and his afro/ face is cut uneven. Someone once said, "third time is a charm." We're going to have someone else in the company to groom him and see how this goes.

I was referred to Top Dog by an old coworker because I had an older yorkie at the time and she didn't do well at the groomer. My coworker told me about Darcy and how she was a dog whisper. I started taking Coco to Darcy and they never had any issues. She took such good care of my girl. Now she grooms my toy poodle and they just love him. Darcy even noticed when he was doing too well and his energy was different.
She told me to have him checked out, which I did an there was something wrong. Darcy even followed up a couple days later to see how he was doing. I drive all the way from alameda because they take good care of my baby!

I've used Top Dog for a long time for two of my dogs and often recommended them to my friends and family but my experience on Friday is most definitely changed my mind. My old pups was completely transformed into a sad little pups after I picked him up. His hair was so so short that he looks pink because the hair is so close to his skin. His nails were half a$$ed when only some were cut and look pretty long.
The hair on his face looks all chopped up and he looked so upset. I had to get him a little summer shirt, because no joke he looked so uncomfortable. I called the next day and left a message and asked to speak to the owner. They called me back right away and I know it wasn't the owner. They were nice about it and tried to explain that he was matted, but it doesn't explain why his hair was down to his skin.
They also said that his nail vein was very long which is why they left him like that. Also I forgot to mention that this is what I got back after I dropped him off at 2pm and wasn't ready until 6:40pm. I'm usually a pretty reasonable person but I honestly can't let this one go. I booked this appointment a month an advance and brought this pup from Sacramento only to get this in return.
They tried to resolve it by saying to bring him back to fix his hair, but how can they fix it? Or to bring him back for a complimentary service, "I'm hello? Why would I trust you all with my pup". No, thank you. I would've like an honest answer as to what happened and or a call directly from the owner. Oh and to top it off, they charged me an extra $20 because he was matted bringing it to a total of $90.
This whole thing just make me sad for my pups. He doesn't deserve that and I think we try to give our pups the best life and when this sort of thing happens, it's at the very least upsetting.

Since the owner of top dog has retired I miss her so much because she knows exactly what to do for my dog. Which he been going there since he was a puppy. Now that she have left. I wouldn't recommend going here again. I've a Maltepoo and if I tell you when I picked up my dog. My dog look like a tall Chihuahua he have no hair on him at all now I've to wait years for all his hair to grow back. Ugh very disappointed. I'll be finding him another groomer. Because my dog will not be going back there at all.

Have been taking our doggies here for a nail trim for a few years now. Excellent service! We have 2 rescues, one is out pit Chico. He is do aggressive, but loves most people. Top Dog is one if his favorite places. Angel is usually the young man who comes out, hes professional and very friendly. Chico was immediately comfortable going with him. Their AWESOME from the one that gets your dur baby at curbside to the groomer inside. They'll take care if you everytime! Highly recommended!

The first time I brought my puppy here, Darcy made us feel so welcomed and did an amazing job with his nail trimming. I kept coming for only nail trims and she remembered us every time. Naturally I came back in my pup got a full haircut for the first time ever and it looks AMAZING! I believe their prices are affordable and they are really nice and provide great service. Not to mention they are a 6 minute drive from my house so even better.

This was our first and only time at the Top Dog. We own a small yorkshire terrier and brought her in for her first cut. I examined The Top Dog's website and spoke to multiple people on the phone about this being her first cut prior to making an appointment and bringing her in. When we arrived we spoke to the groomer and requested a short summer shave and a tight sharp cut on her face.
At this point, standing on the sidewalk, we were informed that they would not do that. They would only cut her paws, face, and sanitary areas as a policy for the first time cut. I would have preferred to have been told this before driving to Hayward, I wouldn't have come at all. No one I spoke with on the phone mentioned it and it's not listed anywhere on their site.
I didn't want to waste my time, or the drive so I reluctantly agreed after confirming the new lower price (since it's not a full cut). Then comes the cut. TERRIBLE. When we picked her up her face was still a complete mess. It was long and uneven, no where close to the reference image we showed. They also hadn't done any trimming or hair removal of her ears.
We asked that they do a second pass, which they did, thus the 2 stars. But even so, when they brought her back out she was still incredibly uneven. We had to clean it up at home. We also noticed no trimming whatsoever, of her private areas. However, her feet look fine. We even asked if she had been a nuisance or if she was biting, as a way to explain away their poor job, but they said no.
She was well behaved, if a bit anxious. We were disappointed, especially after having to wait so long for an appointment. Honestly, it felt like a waste of time and money. I suggest adding this policy to your site and listening more closely to your clients requests.

I was able to set an appt within 24 hours. It was drop off and pick up at curbside- great social distancing. The groomer were sweet to my baby. Cleo was set to be there for ~2 hours but it ended up being soon, which was awesome and quick. I appreciate the bandana they put on her, she looks adorable. The price was great for nail trim, ear cleaning, and wash. I will be returning quite often.

I don't usually post reviews but I consider this to be a special circumstance worthy of one. We typically get Ryder, our poodle mix groomed professionally once a quarter at a salon near our home. We were never really satisfied with this salon but it was good enough bc it was close to our home and jobs. That was until we noticed Ryder was coming home consistently with nicks and cuts after every appointment once they changed owners.
Plus he was always terrified to go in (He would alway try dragging us back to the car). We new something was up and vowed never to go back in late 2019. We opted for the PetSmart groomer route until we could find another local salon to take care of our special boy. And then COVID-19 happened and we couldn't get his 2020 Q1 grooming session taken care of. Ryder's coat started to get wildly unmanageable and matted.
We called everywhere, no one was open! So we started to do some minor trims and maintenance ourselves so he could see at the very least, but that was only a quick fix for a big problem that was only going to get worse. And that's went the top dog appeared! They were recommended to me by a former coworker and I'm so glad I took their word.
Not only were they open for service in the midst of a pandemic but they were so kind and attentive to our dog. We had an appointment at 8:30am today, and they came right out and picked him up from my car. Darcy listened to all of my concerns and requests as a first time client. They said they would call when he was done and that he was in good hands!
And he absolutely was. They called at 11am on the dot to let me know that he was ready to come home. We paid electronically and picked him up about 15mins later. My family and I are so grateful to Darcy & the top dog team for taking care of Ryder in the middle of a pandemic. We will definitely be back next quarter for his next cut! I highly recommend The Top Dog Salon!

My poor Maybelline was in dire need of a pedicure. We've been both observing the shelter-in-place order and have been inside. With COVID-19, many groomers aren't taking appointments. Luckily I remembered Gold Elite, Cheryl M, told me about The Top Dog. I called the to check about their hours and a very nice woman told me to come in the next day around 2:00pm.
Upon pulling up I front, a young girl met me at the door. I told her I had an appointment for a toenail clip. She took Maybelline inside and asked me to wait outside. About 10 minutes later, my pup was returned back to me by the groomer. Maybs was nicely trimmed. $20 cash.
