Upon our first meeting with John we saw instant-I can't stress that enough-instant response from our puppy. John's irrefutable calm command over our unmanageable animal was a wonder to behold. For us, previously unheard of yet simple strategies proved to be highly effective for things like housebreaking and teaching commands like sit and stay. Quite simply, John trained our dog to be a joy to have in our family. We teach you to utilize your dog's natural instincts and loving, cooperative nature throughout the training process.
Services
Serving San Diego, California, since 1990, John's Natural Dog Training Company has provided professional dog training services and has helped tens of thousands of satisfied clients and their dogs. John Rubin pioneered the "natural approach" to dog obedience training and set the standards that many of San Diego's best dog trainers use today.
As wonderful as it is, and I absolutely love what I do, there is nothing magical about training dogs. A good dog trainer simply employs common sense and then combines that with a foundation based on experience and a clear understanding of the way dogs think, learn and interact - known as pack dynamics.
The best way for you to resolve minor issues such as housebreaking, or to just get to know us a bit better before you commit to a program, is to schedule a Single Consultation Session. Consultations can be upgraded to any private training package or Board and Train Program and that amount paid will be applied.
As San Diego's most experienced dog training company, we work with approximately 2500 new clients each year and hundreds of returning clients. We hope these reviews are helpful to you. We would be happy to supply you with personal references if requested. Please call us at 877-447-8597. Johns services were superb!

We have been waiting months for a refund from John because we cancelled our contract with him. We paid $775 for 8 sessions and decided to cancel after 2. In our contract we could cancel within the first 3 sessions and get refunded for any unused sessions. The trainer was insisting on a spike choke collar for our dog and we refused. Obviously the values of this company did not line up with ours and we do not want to continue with them. Well, we still have not received the refund of our money and we're out hundreds of dollars for nothing. TOTAL FRAUD. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. Read the rest of the reviews. Many people with our same story. I wish I would have researched the company more carefully

We could not be happier with John and his skilled approach at animal handling! We have a 6-month mini goldendoodle that John has been working with for the past 3 months. Our dog has successfully learned to walk properly on a leash, sit, and down (take it with a grain of salt; at 6 months she still needs constant training/reminders, just as children need constant reinforcement as they grow). John does not use treat (food) reinforcement, which we love.
My husband and I don't bribe our 3 kids with food, so why would we bribe our dog with treats?! John recommended a pronged training collar. I at first was hesitant (our pup was a tiny 6 lb pup) but after trying it on my arm, I realized that it does NOT hurt. It causes a startle effect that then causes compliance. Our sweet pup responded wonderfully to this training collar! Does she like it? Nope. Does it work? Heck yes!
We don't leave it on her all the time, just for training purposes. And it has resulted in such an obedient, compliant puppy. In addition to an all-natural training approach, John himself is such a nice guy! He truly cares about the pups he works with. Just today he spent 30 minutes on the phone with me, walking me through some puppy behaviors and advising how to best mitigate them.
He does not charge for these extra 'sessions', and in fact encourages them. If you are looking for a skilled and knowledgeable trainer who genuinely will care about your dog and train them (and train you! Because let's be honest, training the humans is a huge part!) then you need to call John. Hands down, he's the best. Don't wait.
