Today my dog had his first visit at Prarie View AH. Yesterday I was very concerned about my dog. Cortland AH has been very ignorant lately and only cares about $. I wanted to bring my dog here because I kept hearing amazing things about this veterinary clinic, and it's important to feel comfortable about who is caring for your pets. I was amazed at how quickly I was able to get in as a new patient.
It was also a breath of fresh air not being charged a ridiculously high fee for it being for something other than a routine yearly check/shots. Walking through the door, I already felt good about the choice I had made about coming here. The receptionist was very nice and friendly. The vet tech Sarah was very sweet and patient with my very anxious dog. Dr. Diemer was kind and professional.
He listened to my concerns and I didn't feel rushed at all. It turns out my dog isn't in as bad of shape as Cortland AH said he was! I couldn't be happier with the decision I made, and now all 3 of my dogs are patients here :.

I just moved to Dekalb and was trying to find a good vet for my dog. I needed to go and see them to ask about another opinion for my dogs biopsy nose results. The Dr. was absolutely NO HELP at all! He didn't see the results that i sent them before ahead (3 weeks in advance). He was seeing the results with me during the appointment and told me he has no idea about this diseases and he will need to do his research and he will give me a call!
I asked, then why do i have to pay for this visit? he said well we are sorry we had emergency all day and i couldn't see them before hand. Well, i sent them 3 weeks ago? No response. And the front desk was absolutely no help at all. I highly don't recommend them.

My family and I just moved into the area and it's amazing to say we already found a new vet for our furry friends. Reception was extremely friendly and both the vet (Dr. Emmett) and technician (Sarah M). were kind and informing. They were able to get us in and out quickly and answered all of my possible questions. 10/10!

The first time in my life with pets that I am 100% satisfied with our veterinary care. Everyone on staff is patient with all of our questions. They are kind, compassionate and knowledgeable. We've gotten great advice for some of the issues we've been having with a couple of our dogs. They all have a great "bedside" manner with our treasured family members.

It's clear that the Dr and staff love animals and care about their clients. They are thorough and gentle when examining. Ask questions and share their knowledge to help in making a decision about tests and procedures. I moved to Chicago three years ago and am happy to make the drive when my pup needs his checkup.

I have had difficulty getting the medication for my cat regulated. I called repeatedly over a four or five day period asking for a vet and concerned that she was throwing up her medicine. I was given the brush off every time. No compassion, no regard for the health of my pet, no medical advice. The day after the last call, I woke up to my poor kitty bleeding from the eyes and nose.
I called frantic and they got her in, charged me emergency fees, added medicine, and the vet yelled at me for not giving her the medicine properly. When I said she kept throwing it up, he was angry at me because I didn't call to report it. I told him I did and he didn't believe me. She never recovered from this and although another vet tried to help, Prairie View refused to give them her medical records. NEVER TAKE YOUR PETS HERE.
My kitty should have lived several more years. Lack of medical treatment, no concern for my pet, no compassion for me when she died due to their neglect. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

What an amazing experience! Truly the best vet experience we've ever had. Our corgi was having colitis issues and was seen by Dr. Diemer and Christa and they were nothing but helpful and caring. They truly put Reuben's health first and Dr. Diemer even took the time to explain to us a ton of facts about proper diet/food. If it's not too far, take your pets here! Totally worth it

Recently we took our 10 yr old cat, Putty, for an annual visit. Last year he had to have one of his kidney's removed because they found a tumor on it that was rare form of cancer. This check up was to make sure that they cancer was all gone. Which it is, thank goodness. I find the staff to be nice and helpful. Dr. Emmett is always very informative and empathetic.
They have been our vet for a number of years. We've had to put two cat's to sleep with them & had two more with some issues. I don't think we could find a better vet. Dr. Emmett has called me directly to answer questions that have come up over the years. They are always very helpful. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a good vet.

I started going to Prairie View quite a few years ago as my previous vet clinic got a new Dr. that tried to tell me that my older cat was losing weight because she magically became picky about her food. Dr. Emmert took a blood test & correctly diagnosed her with kidney disease. Dr. Emmert always had time to speak with me about the progress of her illness.
When the inevitable end of her long life came, they were kindness personified. They took us into a room immediately so my crying would be private and would not disturb/upset other patients. My pets like the Docs & the assistants who work there & I would never take my precious kits anywhere else.

Prairie View is contracted by a shelter called Rescue Warriors. They examined a puppy and 4 days later it was released to us. It took two days of bickering with the rescue to get this vet's medical records released. And we only pressed the issue because our puppy began scratching herself uncessingly a couple of hours after we got her home and then began to have diarrhea.
We did get the report. In it, Prairie View claims the dog was a (and I quote) "healthy animal". This even though earlier in the report they cite that the dog was "itching all over" and the "intestines [were] mildly distended". Many times latent bacterial infections emerge from the onset of mange. Yet, the vet did not do a scrape, or at least did not report the findings of any scrape in the report.
No one can know what the conversation was between volunteers from the rescue and Prairie View. But not even a week after this vet report, we took our dog to an ER hospital doctor. He did one scrape that came back negative but insisted we follow up with our own vet explaining that dogs can have mange but test negative. When our vet saw Prairie View's report she insisted we bring the puppy in immediately.
A day later we did, and her two scrapes came back positive for Sarcoptic mange (the form of mange that humans can contract from dogs). Had Prairie View put a hold on this dog - in writing - rather than calling her "healthy", it is doubtful that the rescue would have released her. We would not have received her, paid the rescue and vet bills, bonded to the pup, cared for her over the course of a week, only to come to the realization that she was too sick for us to care for. Shame on this vet.
Maybe they increase their medical prowess (or moral integrity) when dealing with paying customers - but if they could not give the correct advice to the rescue, then they probably can't give good animal medical advice to anyone. Their failure to stop the transfer of this dog comes daringly close to violating regulations set forth by the Department of Agriculture. They did not do a scrape. Had they, who knows what they might have found.

Dr. Emmett and his staff are absolutely wonderful and very caring. I recently had to take my dog in because he had bit someone. Dr. Emmett had his staff take care of all the paperwork and contact animal control on my behalf. I called first thing Monday morning and they were able to see me within the hour. Dr. Emmett explained the process involved in dog bites since this was the first experience for me.
He also noted on the paperwork to animal control that my dog was very well mannered and behaved during his physical. I would definitely recommend this animal hospital to anyone. They really care about their patients!

The best of the best! Prairie View has taken care of my animals for many years. They are knowledgeable and caring. I like that they send me magazines w. reminders of my pets needs (shots, vaccines, etc.) They also have a wide variety of specialty items such as diet food and treats. The staff are professional and never complain at my bizarre requests.
