The owner responded to my review yesterday with a comment that I was not a customer. I have the pictures the owner took with his own camera of my dog to prove Jake (german shepherd) did indeed stay at Wickersham's! And recieipts. I gave a one star review because when I came to pick my dog up from an "air conditioned" room a day early, the staff panicked.
They said I wasn't supposed to be there until tomorrow. Yup, I wasn't. They brought me my dog.from a crate that was not airconditioned (it was only 90 degrees at 9 in the morning.) and a bag of food.with 3 extra cans and more extra bags of food (separated by me before dropping Jake off in the first place) than i could immediately count. Jake had not been put in the accocomodations I had arranged, booked, paid for and expected. Jake was not fed the food he was supposed to be fed.
I'm not sure why the owner is contesting my review, but I'll be happy to track down the proof if he continues, although I never displayed it elsewhere. Jake threw up twice on the way home, once more once home. Why? I'm not sure. Because he hadn't been fed and had extra stomach acid? Because he lived his entire life in air conditioning but was refused it at Wikershams?
Or because that overly blue-died pond poisoned him? I don't know, but I do know I drove out to the boonies for the "best" dog care and got the worst. I waited to post my review until my friend, who advised and wanted to keep using the establishment without retribution (she was scared about what might happen to her dog, what does that tell you?) to post my full review. If my dog had died, I would have taken harsher legal actions, but one way or the other, my review is staying.

Had brought previous dog there where he loved to run and play outdoors & swim in pond. After he passed I adopted GSD who I brought there for training which they now offer (includes boarding). Trainer Greg did great with her and her basic obedience training! Of course she loved playing at the ranch too! Great experience! I know she's ready to go back for more fun or next phase of training. Thanks to Wickersham K-9 Ranch!

We have been bringing our pups to Keith and the Wickersham K9 ranch for many years. Our newest family member, Kona, an Australian Shepard loves as much as our other dogs. She just finished her AKC Canine Good citizenship with trainer Greg, and he is amazing. He works really hard to ensure Kona met all the criteria and passes on knowledge when we picked her up. I can't say enough positive things about Wickersham, they are the best!

Was appalled to get a notification today (6/29/2021) that there was a new comment from the owner on my review posted 7 years ago. I posted that my dog came back from a stay with raw paws that caused limping and a red itchy belly that was not acknowledged nor seemed concerning to anyone working there. He refutes saying some callous comments which is technically true-HE WROTE THEM IN AN EMAIL.
His response to the review today started with "LOL" and stated that we need help (you know, for being upset at our dog's poor condition). So glad to know that the owner is still the exact same person we thought he was SEVEN years ago. Please take this in consideration when giving this man your business. The grounds and location are very nice but unfortunately the business owner is not.

We have a large dog with high needs/bad separation anxiety. We have taken him to a few different boarding facilities in the past, but none of them quite had the space/care needed for us to feel comfortable leaving him for extended periods of time. The care Ollie received from the moment the Wickersham team picked him up from our home was exceptional.
This is one of the few places we have found that allows dogs to roam/play outside (while supervised) all day, and kept us updated with texts and pictures (even on Thanksgiving day). I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to make sure their dog isn't cooped up all day inside a tiny kennel. Very happy with the care and attention of the entire team and have already booked his next stay!

Met the owner and he automatically made a concerned face at my dog which was acting completely normal. Then proceeded to insist just because of the breed of dog I had that he was an aggressive animal and didn't trust him. I could understand that if my dog was being aggressive or barking or lunging at others. But my dog was just sitting there being pet my kids, wagging his tail and licking them. There are not bad breeds of dogs, just bad people that raise them. You shouldn't judge an animal before know it.

Fabulous retreat for your canine pal. I checked them out one day last Decenber and my dog seemed very happy meeting the staff then. So we made a reservation for a week this past February. She loved it! Lots of running and playing, she was so tired when she came home. We plan to make future vacation plans for our dog here knowing she is well cared for and happy with this location.

Our dog, Oliver, simply loves staying at the K-9 Ranch. From the moment our car hits the gravel, he is at the window, tail wagging and tongue out. And, the feeling is mutual. The team at K-9 dole out the love on Oliver, too -- from endless rounds of ball to swimming, running and more. We call the K-9 Ranch doggy camp because he has just as much fun there as the kids do at their summer camps. (He comes back tired and happy, just like the kids, too!) Thanks K-9 for being fast and responsive, dependable, and fun!

Recently had our Britney Spaniel picked-up at our home for 5 day stay. We have used many dog boarding places and this was first time our dog came back sad--sad because it wanted to stay! The place is a doggie wonderland. They do a great job of keeping dogs active and happy. Staff was very communicative and flexible. Would highly recommend! We will keep using from now on even though it is not close to us.

We have been bringing our dog here since 2008. It is such a wonderful place for dogs to be when you need to be away. Our dog Rosie is excited when we drive in on the gravel driveway! She knows she will have fun being just a dog with other dogs for a few days. We love this great hidden gem of a place for dogs. I almost hate letting anyone know about it but I hope other dogs will have the great experience ours has had here.

This place is absolutely heaven! The staff is professional and the facilities are immaculate. We have boarded both our Golden Retrievers here. Our first was not much of a "social" dog and Keith and the staff at Wickershams always took extra special care of our "old man" and were very accommodating to his special personality. Our latest "pup" is more gregarious and absolutely LOVES "going to camp". I recommend the pick-up and delivery service and I can't find the words to express our praise and admiration for all of Wickersham's staff. They are top notch!

I have been working to catch up on reviews that I have intended to write and realized that I never wrote a review for one of my favorite gems. If you in South Charlotte and are looking for a place to send your large, non-aggressive, and playful dogs (a.k.a Labs, Settlers, Goldens among others), this is dog heaven. My wife and I have been sending our dogs to the ranch for most of our fifteen years in Charlotte (we currently have two golden retrievers. three counting our son's).
In the beginning we would drive the 70 miles round trip to have comfort in that our dogs were well taken care of. Now we consistently pay the equivalent of another day for the pick up and drop off services (or use the occasional coupons that we find for free pickup and delivery)! Now the good stuff. Every dog needs to be viewed and approved by the owners in the ranch setting before being boarded.
The bottom line is that you know that your pets are not going to be chewed on or harassed by an aggressive animal. In our time sending our dogs to the ranch, there have been zero incidents. Look at the movies on the web site and you really do see an accurate view of the atmosphere at the ranch. The kennels are the cleanest and nicest that we have seen in our continued search for a backup place to board our dogs.
Any time that we have had to go elsewhere because of last minute availability or we were feeling financially pinched and wanted to save on the pickup and drop off costs, we have ended up returning to the ranch. I agree with the other reviewer that at first glance the blue water was concerning. The way that it was explained to me was that they were chemicals designed for the purpose that were added to the water to keep the dogs safe much like chlorine in a pool.
I can say that in all of the years of our dogs enjoying an occasional swim that they have never had infection or illness from going in the water. All in all the measure is in how your pets are returned to your home. If they are healthy, calm, and tired then your choice for where to board your dogs is a good one. Our dogs have come to recognize the ranch staff and bus, appear to be "excited" to go to the ranch, and clearly come back tired. We don't expect to change our choice anytime soon.
