Services
The Humane Society and SPCA of Hancock County does not receive any tax money nor any financial support from national organizations such as the HSUS or the ASPCA. We rely on our community for support to continue our mission of humanely providing for and protecting unwanted, lost and abused animals in our county.
Shelter life can be very stressful for animals. Our Pet Pal program enlists the help of volunteers to provide much needed enrichment to dogs in our facility. Pet Pals will interact with dogs by playing outside, taking walks, and relaxing in our Serenity Room. Our Cat Cuddlers provide interaction and socialization to adoptable cats in our facility.
The Humane Society & SPCA of Hancock County hopes to decrease the number of homeless animals by providing access to high quality, low cost spay and neuter services. Surgeries are performed in the Kirk Surgery Suite at the shelter by highly skilled, licensed veterinarians. The same high quality products and instruments that are found in full-service veterinary facilities are used in our clinic.
Animal Control is responsible for all statutes and ordinances relating to the confinement and licensing of dogs. Humane Agents within the Animal Control Department investigate all claims of animal cruelty or neglect and respond to reports of injured or sick companion animals. Whether finding a stray animal or needing surrender your pet, all animal surrenders enter through the Animal Control Department. Animal control maintains records of lost and found animals in our community and diligently tries to reunite lost pets with their owners.
The Humane Society & SPCA of Hancock County provides animal control services for Hancock County. Hancock County Animal Control is tasked with enforcing state and city ordinances pertaining to dogs running at large, registration of dogs, vicious/dangerous dogs, and investigation of animal bites. Complaints pertaining to dogs can be made by contacting the animal control office at 419-423-1664 Ext.

Came in on a whim one day. The lady was so friendly and explained everything to me. I was unaware that they were appointment only right now. They are renovating, so I am excited to see how the interior will look once they are done. Great place to adopt. Oh and they have bunnies

This humane society was so helpful and accommodating while we went through the process of adopting our sweet dog, Mason. Once we filled out an application, a member of their staff contacted us only a couple of days later. We made an appointment to meet our potential new dog for the very next day, and we were able to take him home right after our first meeting with him.

They place holds on the animals once you have been approved for adoption and have scheduled an appointment to meet the animal. This completely eliminated the anxiety surrounding the adoption process for my boyfriend and I. As opposed to other rescues and dog adoption facilities, you don't have to wait to hear back from them and then go through a lengthy process of waiting to see if you are deemed the correct fit for a potential pet while competing with other potential adopters. Instead, the Humane Society of Hancock County seems to focus on getting their animals to loving homes as soon as a good fit comes along. I highly recommend coming here for anyone looking to add a new furry friend into their family!

Best place around to adopt a cat. Spayed or neutered, all shots, low cost. I have adopted a dog & 2 kittens in the past 20 years, & I volunteered for a bit. Staff has always been great, & my pets have been wonderful. I adopted a 14 week old kitten last summer, for $30. Sweetest cat ever!
