Services
Suttons Bay Animal Hospital began as a part-time satellite clinic of the Animal Medical Center of Traverse City. Seeing a need for a full-service clinic in the growing community, Dr. Charles E. Morrison bought the Animal Medical Center of Traverse City in 1997 and opened it as Suttons Bay Animal Hospital.

My dog and I love how professional and kind the staff are and how they explain what we need to know. My pups ear infection was painful but they gave her such good care. She was wagging her tail the whole time.

Everyone I met at this practice was cordial and competent - particularly Dr. Cochran. She was willing to discuss my questions and allow me to participate in treatment decisions. Her exams were thorough and she provided thoroughly understandable feedback for me. Our two poodles were the beneficiaries of expert care!

We took our 7 month old male shepherd in for a wellness check and his first visit to a vet since adoption one month ago. Roman is very young and mouthier than most dogs that I've owned. Dr Shroeder was able to examine him without incident and she was able to keep the dog calm throughout the process very pleased with this visit thanks very much.

If you are a cat owner or a young woman I would avoid this practice. This is the practice I grew up going to, before Dr. Sheard worked there. When I went recently with my cat who had developed a large tumor I had terrible experience with Dr. Sheard. As soon as we got into the room, he explained that he has a "love hate relationship with cats, " and wouldn't own one himself.

This was unprofessional. I don't care how he feels about cats personally, my pet was ill and I needed help. He didn't even run a blood test. He aspirated the tumor, and when the results came back inconclusive he insisted on surgery the upcoming week. I explained that my cat is older, and FIV positive, and I did not feel comfortable rushing into surgery without discussing options.

He refused to recommend any course of action other than surgery. His emails to me were deeply condescending and unprofessional. It was impossible to get in touch with him to discuss any option other than surgery. I am sure he was talking down to me and refusing to give me appropriate information because I am a young woman. Due to this, I left the practice, and went to Companion Animal hospital.

The vet there was incredible. She actually ran a blood test. She showed me slides of the aspiration so I could understand what we were dealing with. She agreed that the tumor was much too large to operate on safely, and so we started my cat on a dose of prednisone. And the tumor is gone. Not reduced, gone. Dr. Sheard was going to cut open my cat when a kinder, more humane course of care was to use medication to address the issue and let an older animal remain pain free.

I believe this experience was malpractice at best. Disturbing, unprofessional, condescending, and incorrect medical advise. This used to be a wonderful practice, but I would never return here again.

The staff and doctors here always make time to squeeze us in to tight schedule in addressing needs of our older pets. Very thorough and caring. Calling to check up with us and answer our many questions with compassion and understanding even after hours. They take great care of our old pups and us too!

We visited this Veterinary group 2 years ago on vacation when we had a dog who swallowed a rock. Happy to get re-established now that we are living here part time. Both times we were impressed by Dr Cochran and the vet techs we met. Dr Cochran is caring, professional and very knowledgeable. The dogs love her and are very at home there. She takes the time to be sure you understand everything and feel comfortable with her explanations.

The vet techs are friendly, efficient and also very helpful. The dogs also feel very comfortable with them. All around a great experience and we feel comfortable with them and pleased to call them our vet!

We could not be happier with the care our pets have received from SB Animal Hospital. The office is run efficiently and everyone is courteous and helpful. Minnie Purrl thinks they're great - she loves getting pedicures, and she does really well with the staff. Thank you SBAH for your many years of care!

Overall extremely happy I have a trustworthy place that I am comfortable taking my pups. They treat them as their own and I know they're being taken care of even when I can't go in with them. The vets and vet techs are incredible with communication and very knowledgeable. I will drive 45 minutes any day knowing the safety of my pets are their priority. I'm just very grateful for the experiences I've had & the dedication of this office.

Refer by many friends/family to the clinic. We took our new Great Pyrenees Pup and had a great visit with Dr. Cochran. She answered all of our "new parent" questions and had the same philosophy of care that was important to us. Dr. Cochran took the time to educate us in a way that wasn't "my way or the highway" and made us feel very comfortable with the care our pup was receiving.

Very impressed. We had a follow up appointment for a tick and saw Dr. Sheard as Dr. Cochran was out that day. Very impressed with him too and felt very reassured that no matter who we saw at the clinic, our baby would be in good hands. Pricing seemed spot on to me and even surprised me a little bit as I was terrified it was going to be a lot more. Recommend this place as I truly feel they are passionate about what they do. Thank you.
