Ottertail Pet Resort

I recently adopted a furry friend from the Humane Society during the COVID lock down working from home. In anticipation of having to go back in to the office in the coming weeks, I was searching for a doggy day/care facility to break up the week and give my new boy some exercise and stimulation. I scheduled a tour, and the facility is very clean, spacious and they seemed to really care about their "guests." I spoke with Karen the owner who was very thorough in answering all of my questions and understanding of my nervousness since I did not want my dog to panic or think he was back at the shelter. Karen wasn't there when I picked up my pooch, but she was so thorough and gave me a call later to go over how he did throughout the day and most importantly let me know he is welcome back! I've made my reservation for his next stay. I was very pleased with the care, staff and the facility. Highly recommend!

This was a rare find. From the initial conversation with the owner we felt comfortable. It is a clean, lovely home & business. The staff was helpful, caring & kind understanding how hard it is to leave a beloved family dog for 8 days. All went well for him & for us. Highly recommend Otter Tail & calling ahead to talk & understand their careful care & requirements prior to coming in. Will use them again without hesitation for our Labrador.

Great experience. They called my vet to make sure my cat had the appropriate vaccinations. Easy check in procedure, they email the paperwork making it more efficient. My cat does not like to be held or carried especially by strangers but they did a great job handling him and he was smoothly put in and out of his carrier when I dropped him off and picked him up. They ask about feeding patterns and even give back the unused food if you bring in your own. Thank you for the piece of mind!

We have taken Sophie to other kennels and this is the first one that she scrambles to get through the door! She gets so excited as soon as we pull into the driveway. The staff is so nice and the facilities are extremely clean! Otter Tail is by far the best kennel we've ever used.

We have used kennels in multiple cities for years and Otter Tail is the best one we have ever used. As soon as you walk in the door the first thing you notice is how clean it is - every time! The owner has extremely high standards and it's evident in all the details, from the grounds, to the facilities, and the staff. Care, comfort and safety of the pets they board is their top priority! Love them!

My wife & I feel comfortable in giving a fair evaluation and sharing our experience with boarding our dog at the Otter Tail Pet Resort. Please find the criteria that is most important to us in boarding our dog: (Otter Tail Pet Resort Rating on 1-5 Scale with 5 being excellent) #1 - A Clean, Neat Boarding Facility = 4 (Clean, nice outside presentation) #2 - Owners/Staff who really like dogs = 3 (Haven't really witnessed enough of the owners interaction with the dogs - Heard about her personal dogs but have not seen the interactions to verify. Yes, she shows & breeds dogs.

Staff seems to be okay with dogs) #3 - Programs and/or a Facility which provides the dog exercise and/or outside time = 4 (Shown the outside fenced areas for the dogs to run) #4 - A Facility which allows the dog to have personal objects (toy bear, blanket or bed cushion) with them during their stay = 2 (Not allowed to have any blankets, etc. - allowed a small piece of owners clothing e.g. tee shirt for the dog to smell) #5 - Sleeping Bed that is not directly on the floor = 3 (Was shown the canvas dog beds that are supposed to be provided for the dogs in their area) #6 - We want to see the actual space or area that the dog will be staying = 1 (Not allowed to see the actual area the dogs are being kept - told that having customers coming through is very disruptive to the dog? - This is real concern - since it prompts the question "what are you hiding or what are we not supposed to see?") Important Issues to Pay Special Attention to when boarding with this facility: #7 - A Reservation Policy = 1 (A very strict and unlike any other boarding facility we have experienced. 7 Day Cancellation Policy which does not allow for any alterations what so ever to the dates of the stay.

Any additions or deletions of days for a stay constitutes a loss of your deposit of $ 56.00 as well as any cancellations after the 7 Days and time of reservation. E.g. Reservation for Friday at 10:00 a.m. must be cancelled 7 days prior to Friday at 10:00 a.m. or you will forfeit your deposit. We cancelled a reservation at 4:00 p.m. and were told that this was not acceptable in the future but that we would be given a onetime pass on losing the deposit.

Recommend that all reservations be requested in writing & ask for a written confirmation for your records. Per the web site you can call to cancel your reservation or make changes by phone - strongly recommend that you document your cancellation with an e-mail or fax and ask for a confirmation from them in writing that they have recorded your cancellation) #8 - Scheduled Appointment Times = 2 (Appointment Times are scheduled and held very strictly - Make sure that you can keep to the EXACT time of your scheduled drop off and pick up times - this is held to a 5 minute window & if you are 30 minutes late for drop off or pick up there is a fee of $25.00 which will be charged.

Very little flexibility in this area - per their web site, they are on "tight" schedule. #9 - Dropping Off Your Dog = 2 (Dogs are taken directly to their areas immediately - not allowed to get them settled in their area or time to really say good bye) #10 - Picking Up Your Dog = 2 (Dogs seemed to be removed from their kennel areas and they are staged in the front areas awaiting the arrival of the dog owners to pick them up.) Total Rating = 2.4 Gave an Okay Rating = 3 Conditional on being a well-informed customer!

Otter Tail is wonderful! We have been taking our pets for day care, boarding, and grooming for the past 7 years. All of their services are first class and our pets can't wait to get in the door when we arrive. Thanks to Otter Tail's very efficient scheduling system we are always 'in & out' without any hassle or conflicts with other pets. In addition, their excellent record keeping assures us that our pets will not be exposed to pets that are not up to date on their shots, etc. Otter Tail is the best!

My husband and I have been taking our little Abby to Otter Tails Pet Resort for several years now. We feel very relaxed to know that she is in very loving, caring, and safe hands while we are away. Karen and her staff have even volunteered and accepted the challenge of "bird sitting" for us now too. And, believe me, my Conure, Zeus, can be quite the challenge! Wonderful facility!

The staff at Otter Tail is outstanding! They take wonderful care of my darling girl and are always welcoming when I drop her off or pick her up. I was apprehensive of leaving her at Day Care in the beginning, but the sheer joy on her face (not to mention the wild thumping of her tail) when we make the turn onto the driveway erased those fears immediately. Karen took a lot of time answering my questions and showing me around prior to Riley's first visit with them.

The facility is remarkably clean with lots of different areas to let dogs play and rest in a safe environment. Mackenzie and the remaining staff always take the time to greet me and chat when I pick her up to let me know how her day went. I am incredibly grateful to have this service so close by!

We have been boarding our dogs (now dog), for years at OtterTail Pet Resort, and it has been wonderful! It is a great feeling as a pet owner to know that when you pull into the parking area to drop off your pet, they are happy and excited to go in. Karen and MacKenzie are loving and compassionate with our dog and there are times we board him at OtterTail so he (and we) can just have an impromptu vacation! We wish we could give OtterTail, Karen the owner, and the entire staff a rating higher than 5 stars, because they truly deserve it! Rob, Cindy and Sammy (our dog) Tucker
