Our extended family has been using Blake Vet for years with largely positive experiences. When we relocated to the area we began using them too. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. However, our most recent visit will be our last. Our dog had an abscess on his lip that has been healing well. As part of his recent exam, we asked if they could double check his lip too.

Several minutes in to the appointment, we get a call that our dog is whining and anxious, they would like to sedate him to complete the exam. For us, the risk of sedating him outweighed the risk of the abscess so we said no. The person on the phone responded that staff would do their best to complete the exam with him awake. Our dog has never had issues at the vet, usually we get comments about how well behaved and friendly he is.

I suspect he was nervous being in a new place without us and having someone he doesn't know touch a sore spot on his face. We appreciate Blake Vet doing their best to keep animals and people safe during COVID. However, some flexibility to attend appointments with our pet, especially when the alternative is sedation, would be very helpful and result in better care.

We'd be happy to wear masks and/or show proof of vaccination and only attend the absolutely necessary parts. In the end, our dog didn't get a thorough exam and we still paid full price.

Critical: Professionalism, Quality My families dog and cat went to this vet, they cut their nails so short that there was a blood mess everywhere, the medicine we had to give our cat costed 400 dollars

We had a very positive experience introducing our puppy to this veterinary service following our relocation to the Belfast area. As anyone who has recently needed to find a new vet knows, finding one nowadays is a challenge. Lots of pets are finding new homes, and there are more vets retiring than coming into the business. We would be happy to recommend this practice with its friendly and attentive staff.

First time at Dr. Blake's and Staff. We have two yellow labs 8 & 13 yrs old. We brought our dog to have an examination and rabies. Dr. Blake spent a good deal of time cleaning her ears, checking her out completely. His recommendations and care are greatly admired. He called me to communicate his thoughts on our girl; he seems to be very into his work and takes pride; including his staff, very nice! Everyone at Blake's Vet. made us feel welcome! Thank You!

Dr Justin has been our vet for 25 years. I wouldn't bring my dogs to anyone else. He truly loves animals. I have called him on a weekend and he has looked at my dog. He explains things in easy to understand language and goes over all your options. I trust his judgment as much as I trust my own doctor. Will never take my animals to anyone else. Now if he just handled goats.

I read the negative reviews and can only say most people never bother with good statements but will sure express ill feelings. For the last 6 years my dogs have been going to Blakes with no problems. My last dog had to be put down due to CANCER; certainly nothing to fault Blakes with. Blakes takes very good care of dogs and from that I'd assume other animals as well. Blakes does a free rabies clinic and participates in animal rescue.

They are community oriented and always extremely polite and helpful. These negative reviews on yelp frankly astound me. I'd never hesitate taking my dog to Blakes and would recommend them to anyone looking for a vet.

Blake Vet is a great facility where your pets will get top notch care. The quality of care is top-notch from the moment you arrive until your pet is discharged. The way in which the the staff and Dr. Blake handle the animals is fantastic as evidenced by how excited our dog Marley would get each time we visited. She knew she was about to get showered with attention which made getting her into the office and then the exam room a breeze!

We just moved to Belfast, ME and needed to find a vet we could trust. A couple people recommended Blake and we're so glad they did! They took great care of our pup who needed to be spayed and she recovered quickly. Quality care is worth the extra few minutes to drive outside of Belfast!

We have been in Maine for more than a year and move frequently. We rely on the reviews posted and also do our due diligence when it comes to people and places we interact with. We found Blake Vet to be a place we would return to in the future should we find ourselves in this area again. I have appreciated Dr. Blake's care and attention with regards to our 3 cats and my mother's dog.

I feel like I need to preface this by saying, I had several years with Blake Veterinary Hospital as the primary vet for my cats including the predecessors to my current generation. I am not a hypochondriac by any means but I am an attentive owner and feel like my observations should hold a little clout considering the tenure I have with the practice. Blake Vet initially told me that I was overreacting to what was likely a "behavioural" issue when my cat Bella started peeing outside of her pee pads on 11/6/18.

She has a history of FLUTDI and we had her annual visit to get her vaccinations and check up scheduled for 11/17/18, but I was extremely concerned when she started exhibiting classic signs of a UTI the night before by peeing in the bed and in the bathroom on the floor instead of her usual pee pads. When I pressed due to concerns of the approaching holiday weekend and my suspicion that it was a UTI, they acted as though I was an alarmist.

It took a lot of urging, but they consented to a drop off to get a sample the next day on 11/7. When I showed up with the cat in hand the next morning, no one was there despite assurances someone would be on premises by 7:30am in my conversation the night before. I had to walk down to the kennel in the back and knock on the door until someone came up and then they had to call another staff person who took another half of an hour to get there. Ontop of this, they failed to obtain an appropriate sample on 11/7.

I told them to keep her overnight to try and obtain at LEAST a pan catch if they couldn't get a cystocentesis. I was informed on Thursday 11/8 she was ready to go home, the lab would be sent out and the results in hand by Monday at the latest and Dr. Blake would email me the result. I thought we'd finally made progress but then I received a call on Friday afternoon that apparently they hadn't obtained enough urine to perform the test and wanted me to bring her in again.

They waited until after the vet had left for the evening on Friday before a holiday to tell me this. It's Veteran's Day, and my cat is now peeing blood as of first thing this morning. I'm grateful that Camden Animal Hospital was willing to take her in on short notice, and even from a minute sample was able to tell me more than Blake did in the two days the practice had her in their care. I will not be taking Bella or any of my other cats back to Blake Vet again.

Our dog Sally has been a patient of Dr. Blake's all 12 1/2 years of her life. She looks forward to her annual visit, and is also a very satisfied client of the Canine Inn! If you are looking for a caring, devoted veterinarian with a staff to match, Sally suggests Dr. Blake and the whole team at Blake Veterinary Hospital. We, (the humans in the house), give Blake Veterinary Hospital PC '5 Stars'.Sally gives Dr. Blake 3 dog biscuits, two new tennis balls.and whatever that is she just dug up in the yard to show him.

We brought our elderly dog to Blake with the hopes of alleviating pain from her arthritis. Twice in a month's time we were told "her heart and lungs sound great". At the end of the month were brought her back because her breathing was just getting worse. The panting that was a reaction to the pain? The lethargy that was a result of a medication side effect?

The heart and lungs that sounded great? A substitute vet on site gave our dog an x-ray. All of what Blake had been saying was a lie. There were NO lung sounds in one of her lungs because the ENTIRE lung was filled with cancer. The other was half full and there was so much fluid around her heart it was struggling to beat. All this time we thought we were trusting the right person to help our beloved dog. She was put to sleep that last visit.

Dropped off our dog Jax for 22 days of boarding at Blake Vet/Canine Inn. Felt good about the decision after reading all of the 5 star reviews. Jax was 63 pounds when we dropped him off, happy and healthy. Throughout the stay, we called twice to check on Jax and both times were told that he was fine, no details, felt like we were being brushed off.

We received a call 6 days before picking up Jax to let us know that he was favoring his back leg and that perhaps it may be lymes disease. When we picked Jax up, we couldn't believe our eyes. Our once healthy dog, was now a shell of what he was. He limped in on three legs, looking extremely emaciated. We were absolutely shocked. We put him on the scale and he weighed 42 pounds. Jax lost 21 pounds in the 22 days that he was boarded at the Canine Inn.

No one ever called or seemed concerned that our dog deteriorated to 1/3 of his body weight. We brought his dog bed with him when we dropped him off the staff was not able to locate it. Somehow, they lost his dog bed. It's now been 19 days and he's still not using his back leg. So, our dog was returned to us emaciated, using only 3 legs and no dog bed.

He was tested for lymes, heartworm and parasites and everything came back negative. I can't express enough what truly heartbreaking and horrific experience it was with Canine Inn/Blake Vet. We have reported them to Animal Cruelty to proceed with an investigation as to how they treat the animals under their care.

We have never left our dogs at a kennel due to a bad experience a long time ago, so were were apprehensive when we had to use a kennel recently. Our dogs LOVED their time at Blake's! We've always gotten great vet care there. Highly recommend.

Very professional staff, with extreme attention to details. Really warm almost family-like atmosphere. From the 2nd stay, everyone knew my dog by name and she really loved it there. Their hosting - "Dog and Cat Hotel" - is very clean, animals receive all attention and love. Dr. Blake is very knowledgeable, diagnosed my dog issues precisely and prescribed efficient treatment. Overall - terrific experience; couldn't wish for anything better. Thank you, Blake People! Mike Friedman, Lincolnville, Maine

Over priced care for a dog by a person who does not know what they are doing, if u want a bath for your pet do your self a favor and take them to petco or petsmart they do a much better job at half the cost, I would rather put my dog down then take them to this quack!
