DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR DOG! I have a beautiful and perfect Australian Shepherd. I was very specific with what I asked the groomer to do. She did nothing what I asked and completely butchered the rest. When I brought my dog to another professional dog groomer she pointed out dozens of problems. The other groomer stated that the dog spaw paid absolutely no attention to detail whatsoever and did not do anything correctly. They were overbooked, they rushed, and completely butchered my beautiful dogs haircut.

When the appointment is actually kept, they do good work. My dogs grooming appointment was made over 3 months ago. It has been canceled 4 times. The 4th time it was canceled was less than 3 hours prior to my dogs appointment. I wish they were more reliable. Too many cancellations for me to continue trying. Very frustrating and disappointing.

I'm not sure if they're having a hard time retaining skilled staff, but based on my experience, there is no point paying them to groom your dog. They're not any more skilled at dog grooming than you are. I scheduled my dog for a bath + nail trim, and when they finally called me back that he was finished (more than 2 hours later, ) the technician told me that "he didn't like having his nails trimmed, " so she "did her best." Of course he doesn't like having his nails trimmed! That's why I pay professionals to do it.
They managed to trim his nails by about 1/32". That is, they didn't really trim them at all. Of course, they charged me full price anyway. A huge waste of time and money.

Waited on hold for 4 mins. to inquire about scheduling an appointment for my dog. Once I told them the type of dog I owned I was told they are not accepting new clients. I'm very confused on why they would ask about the type of dog if they are not taking new clients. Also not sure how they would just assume I am not an existing client. We could have probably started the conversation off with we are not taking new clients! Or how about have we groomed your pet before?

Highly recommend! I have a very sensitive *ie nippy* cattle dog mix, extremely nervous with handling so nail trimming is stressful. The Dog Spaw takes walk-ins for nails, I liked what I read on their website so I gave it a try. No real wait, maybe five minutes. The groomer Neila came out to reception, took her time getting to know Lulu, and discussed options.
I believe another groomer (Kim?) assisted in the nail trim, and they did great! No muzzle needed. Huge relief for mama! The desk manager/receptionist was also very engaging but calm with Lulu and the other dogs I saw being dropped off or picked up. The "spaw" also sells a nice variety of healthy dog treats, fun toys, and whimsical collars and leashes. (The second photo is my other two pups enjoying one of the stuffed animals.) They take various forms of payment, but the best part is being able to Venmo the tip directly to your groomer.
So convenient! If you are hesitant about your groomer because you have a nervous dog, check out The Dog Spaw. I had a great first experience there, and will certainly be returning with my other two crazy girls.

The Dog Spaw was amazing! My family has a 14 year old Shih Tzu who hasn't got a proper haircut in over 2 years due to his anxiety. Bethenny was wonderful and our dog loved her! She did an awesome job and was able to do the whole haircut without our dog freaking out. He is now able to be outside without getting over heated. We will now be using Bethenny and this service every time. Thank you so much Dog Spaw!

Renee is amazing! I have two rescue dogs who both are anxious about grooming, she made them feel comfortable and welcomed. My spaniel mix looks amazing and is ready for all our summer plans with his hair cut. My pitty mix looks great too! Highly recommend for rescue pups, I am very pleased with how the dogs look but more importantly how they were treated by staff.

My dog absolutely loves going here and seeing Jen. He's got such separation issues right now, yet when we get to the parking lot he BOLTS inside and couldn't care less about me once he's in. It's a great relief to know he's happy there, and that I trust the people I leave him with. He always comes out looking amazing, and I'm always happy with my experience. I'd recommend them to anyone. Especially Jen!

This is a great place to get your dog groomed. We search out a groomer that truly knew bulldogs and the special needs of brachycephalic breeds. They have all the great brands of dog food and healthy treats. Not a single grocery store brand which to me is a huge, Healthy pet foods over profit. The pricing is also on par with online prices which is great.
We only give our bulldog Zignature food, kibble and canned w/ Stella n chewy freeze dried patties. They didn't have Zignature treat and I ask if they could bring them in and they did. They staff is always pleasant, friendly and helpful. Our kids enjoy going and picking out doggy biscuits

We have been taking our Redbone Coonhound here for a few years now. She has terrible anxiety and we had tried taking her to multiple places including another local groomer, Petco, and the vet's office to have her nails trimmed and it has been a nightmare. The Dog Spaw of Little Silver has the most accomodating hours to start. I am able to just walk in (although I always call ahead to be polite) for a nail trim.
They know her when we come and they are very understanding of her anxiety - they are the only ones who have been able to trim and dremmel her nails. It's the only place I will take her because they are so good with her.

So happy I found this place! My dog got burrs stuck in his fur and they had no same day appointments available. I asked if they could make an exception for my poor pup since he was hurting, and they squeezed me in same day and got us the help we needed in no time. So grateful for their reliability. Thanks Sam!

Let me just admit this flat out by saying when it comes to my baby, Frankie (mini long haired Dachshund) I'm freaking high maintenance, but never rude. After, an extensive amount of badly groomer shops I decided to give this place a try. I'll admit aesthetically it pleased me by looking up the photos, it's up to my standards. I'm so pleased how all went well. Cynthia took care of Frankie and although it was 2 hours ( longest I've waited) it was well worth.
She communicated clearly and thoroughly. Asked me what look I wanted and assured me she can make it happen and she freaking executed so well. My dog didn't come looking stressed like other places either. Now let me talk about entering a dog spa or groomer and you don't smell not one ounce of dog. It wasn't stuffy and it was clean and not one ounce of hair flying around. I'm still impressed lol like guys you're doing an amazing job. It's set up half a store and then the grooming part.
They sell food to treats/toys/accessories. I ended up buying him a toy and two jerky's. The ladies in the front were very nice to me again customer service is up to par. I didn't get the dog that works there name.yes she's a chihuahua and roams around minding her business lol she's so cute.

I have been going to this shop since they were in Red Bank years ago! Renee grooms my dogs and she is amazing. One of my dogs used to get such anxiety when being groomed and I had to medicate her but Renee worked with her to get her comfortable with the experience and she got so excited when I said "Let's go see Renee". My dog passed, but I still drive an hour each way to bring my other 2 dogs to her.

I have been using their grooming services for a year now. Renee is terrific with my Cairn terrier, and she does a terrific job hand stripping him. Just had a nutritional consult with Dana, and she put me on the right track to get my boy in better nutritional shape. Love their services, recommend them highly to any dog owner!

I have a one year old Dobie who is terrified of getting her nails done. The whole staff at the Dog Spaw is very kind and helpful - especially Jenn! Jenn takes her time with my dog and treats her as if she were her own! My dog does not make Jenn's job easy and Jenn is so kind and understanding. I can't say enough great things about Jenn and the staff!

This is not the worst grooming place I've ever used, but after numerous tries, I finally had to give up and find another groomer. I have a mini Goldendoodle, and Tay repeatedly overcut her face despite the fact that I provided pictures of what I wanted and had several discussions about it after they didn't do what I asked. One time, I even brought her back so Tay could fix a bad cut, after they left ridiculously long hair on top of her head but over cutting her face.
We had a growing out period so they could rebalance her head and face, and they still overcut around her eyes and left so much unevenness that I had to recut myself at home. After paying more that $80 to get a dog's haircut, I should not have to fix it at home. This is a clean shop, everyone is nice, and they have a nice array of products. If all your dog needs is a bath, you'll be happy, but not if you're expecting an even, consistent haircut.

Neila was our groomer for our shy greyhound and crazy hound mix. She did such a great job with them. They came out feeling soft, looking miles better than when we brought them in. And the prices are not bad at all. I used to go to green leaf but I heard from a fellow commuter, his wife is a big animal advocate, not so nice things. So, we're so delighted to find a great local place.

Just took my 8 year old border collie mix here and had a great experience. Her coat looks great, smells good and was NOT stressed out as she normally is after a grooming. Chrissy was her groomer and was very nice as well as the front desk staff. It's a little expensive but I believe you get what you pay for and my dog is extremely happy, relaxed and looks great. Already rebooked for December.

Everyone in this place is super nice and friendly. From the counter girls to my groomer, Renee, they couldn't be more accommodating. A vast array of food and treats plus toys and bakery goodies this place has it all. The owner even offers a free diet consultation if your pet has allergies, skin issues, or a diet restriction. If you love your dog like family go to the Dog Spaw- you won't regret it!

We absolutely adore this place. For background, we have an 80 lb rambunctious 2 y/o German Shepherd. He is friendly but dog reactive and stressed when he's on a leash around other dogs (he plays well off leash and is not dog aggressive). We have been bringing him to The Dog Spaw since he was about 4 months old so they are familiar with him. They are extremely accommodating as they usually let me schedule the last appointment available on a Sunday evening, so there are not many other dogs.
He is friendly and cooperative so his grooming usually takes only about an hour. Tina usually grooms him and she is lovely. We also love the holistic/organic food store attached to it and we always load up on goodies when we go! I would say pricing is average for the area. Book your appointment weeks/months in advance as they fill up pretty quickly!

Great people, actually I should say, these are real dog people. Not just people who work grooming dogs and selling pet foods. They actually care about their clients. Also I love they are so knowledgable when I needed advice about the food and treat products they have there. As well as it only being the better quality pet food items on the market.

I am not one to typically write a review, but I felt it necessary as the experience I had today was NOT a good one and I felt others should be aware. My pets have been coming here for a few years now, and we have always had the best experience. NOT today. Upon arriving at our designated appointment time my 3 pets were met by a groomer who was not friendly at all and was not at all responsive or welcoming to my pets.
She appeared to not be aware that she was going to be grooming all 3, as had been scheduled. She also stated she had previously groomed them yet had no recollection of what service or styles they typically received. After she retrieved their cards to trigger her memory she offered me the opportunity to assist my pets to where they were going to be housed during the grooming period.
I was immediately asked to walk over a plethora of extension cords strewn haphazardly all over the floor (the last thing I want to see when a groomer is carrying pets across them). We were guided to an area my pets were to be put in that was obviously a storage area for a vacuum, grooming table and various supplies precariously stored atop of the grooming table.
At this time I asked, who I assume was the owner (I hope not), would she allow her pets to stay in an area like this, to which she responded "yes this is our suite". Once that statement was made I knew what kind of treatment my pets would be receiving and so we left abruptly and will never return. Disappointed customer

Here's a pic of a satisfied customer. My husband and I love bringing him here. His coat is so soft he's smells good. It lasts for days! I've never experienced that anywhere else. The girls are nice and when I go to pick them up they tell me how much they love him. Sometimes it's difficult to get an appt but that's my fault for waiting so long and calling last minute! See you in 4-6 weeks!

I called for an appointment for grooming of my 55lb, senior cocker spaniel mix. I was quoted $60-$65 for a full grooming and they would honor the first time client discount. When we arrived I was told by the groomer that he would not take care of my dog for less than $80.+ for a basic grooming. The groomer said my dog was a large breed with a dense coat. "Whoever quoted the price was wrong and should have seen the dog first". Discount would not be honored" I guess they would rather lose future business than honor a quoted price and earn a new customer.
To the owner, Thank you for your response. Lulu was a client of Prince and the Pawper for several years. She has never been considered a large breed with a dense coat being an issue. They sold their Rte 33 Manalapan location. That was why I called another local groomer (your spa) I visited Groomer Has It yesterday. They did a terrific job. The staff was kind and compassionate. Lulu was categorized as a medium, spaniel mix. The price they quoted over the phone was honored as well as them discounting ($10 off) 1st time dog visit.

Been taking our little runty here for several years now and we are always so pleased with their grooming. Our little 18.5 year old Scruffles has some difficulty seeing and hearing now and over the years, she's had some traumatic grooming experiences (cowering, shaking when I went to pick her up, nails clipped too close to skin, whiskers shaved off!) She generally comes here twice a year-- mostly to get rid of her thick Winter Is Here of a coat. So, when we know we'll be down in this area, we try to schedule an appointment for her in advance.
I always joke that getting her a full groom costs more than my hair, but as far as groomers go, they are reasonably priced. Her fur comes out clean-shaven and she is always so happy when we come to pick her up. They give her these cute bandanas and it just makes our hearts melt because yes, we lowly humans don't deserve them! Tip: Schedule your full grooming few weeks to a month in advance. For nails, we've lucked out with a few walk-ins but typically, call ahead as over the years, they've gotten quite popular and packed. Scruffles says: Two paws up!

Super friendly and accommodating staff! It was my first time here and I had a regular groomer in North Jersey and had been going to the vet to get my little dog, Buddy's, nails done. When I called to make an appointment, I was advised that for nails.just come on in. I was greeted warmly, she knew I had just called and Buddy went in and was out in a few minutes with great looking nails and he wasn't stressed out! Very reasonably priced and was invited to come back in when he is ready. I would definitely recommend. Great selection of quality treats available here too!

Update to horrible experience noted below. As you know we found a very educated groomer who was amazing in every way and who took care of our Lillee and cut her hair as requested and in no way shaved our dog or even suggested it. It took a mere 1.5 hours to groom her and she turned out beautiful. Had the Dog Spaw actually cared more about the dog than their profit margin and educated themselves on the breed (they possess HAIR not fur which is rare in tnemcankne world), they would also know that shaving this particular type of dog is actually detrimental to their HEALTH, not just an esthetic inconvenience.
As described here in this attachment, their coat assists in these small dogs regulating their body temperature (which explains also why she was trembling when being brought out soaking wet and handed over). Clearly her coat was in no need of being shaved and many owners of these breed of dogs are upset at the aspect of someone trying to ruin the dogs coat as well as questionably be abusive to the dog, wetting her and then refusing service unless we agreed to shave all her hair off - which would have been a health hazard. I'm sure for some breeds of dogs it may not matter but education is key here.
Please see additional enclosed description of the thermal temperature of a Coton and how it could have caused serious injuries for the puppy when it clearly was not needed. *Lastly, and unrelatedly, trying to lie and/or discredit this on basis review of past businesses that were self employed at has *nothing* to do with our experience with this establishment.
Dog Spaw was never a client of ours in any business, nor have we ever serviced them in any capacity other than attempting to have our dog groomed so please realize one thing has nothing to do with the other. Clearly they are so disgruntled that they had to result to libel about businesses they have had no service from - ever - and know nothing about.
A review of a grooming service should have nothing to do with anything else other than our experience with this establishment. We tried to be serviced from this establishment and thus are describing our experience, having the trainer as a witness and participant since she made the appointment to begin with. Thus we have the ability to review it. If Dog Spaw has never been serviced by any of OUR self owned businesses, it should have nothing to with the review HERE, itself.
Being threatened for telling of our experience is just another way this establishment treats its "customers". We are including this information merely to educate people - specific to this breed and possibly others although we don't know for sure - that this goes far beyond just a bad experience and poor customer service, but bridges the line of animal cruelty.
We are also including post-groomed photos of her a mere few days later from an amazing and professional establishment. We hope this helps people make educated decisions. Just because your "groomer" says your dog needs to be "shaved to the skin" doesn't always have to be the case and can actually be detrimental to the health of the animal.

The Dog Spaw is the ONLY place that I would take my dog, Lilo, to be groomed. After hearing the horror stories regarding some groomers, I researched thoroughly before choosing The Dog Spaw for Lilo. My research proved fruitful, because after numerous appointments there, I can't say enough about how wonderful this business is. I know that Lilo is being treated like a princess and is in the safest of hands.
The owner and groomers are all animal lovers who treat their clients, human and animal, with the utmost respect. If you are looking for a safe and courteous place to send your pup, look no further than this establishment. It truly is the best!

I have been bringing my dog and my Mom's dog here for years and am so happy I found them! My girl, Lilly, is a Shepherd rescue and is scared of everything, especially strangers and places she is not familiar with. She has never had an issue with any of the groomers here and always comes out tail wagging and happy when I pick her up. They do a fantastic job grooming and de-shedding her.
It can be difficult to get an appointment so be sure to make one well in advance, it is worth it! Your dog will thank you. There are plenty of groomers closer to where I live but I would rather drive the half hour here because I know they will be in good hands.

Inconsistent customer service - groomers can be very polite one visit and scold you the next. Impossible to make an appointment regardless of number of times that you visit which makes being a client impossibly inconvenient and not a reliable choice for anyone that has a life outside their pets. I am giving up on them even though they provide a good grooming.

Avoid this groomer! My Bichon had just a couple of mats and the groomer Jennifer decided the easiest way to deal with it was to SHAVE him completely. Not only that, but after we picked him up he was SHAKING and developed KENNEL COUGH! DO NOT send your dog here! When I called to complain, instead of discussing this in a reasonable way JENNIFER raised her voice and yelled at me!

First time here at The Dog Spaw and we had an AWESOME experience. Our dog, who is a rescue, felt right at home and got such great attention. The groomer (unsure of name), took time to ask us what we wanted and was receptive to any sensitives our dog may have. When we came back to pick him up, he was SUPER happy and our groomer told us he was super patient and loving. We will certainly be back again!
