Jen is a lifelong dog owner and lover. She began by volunteering with rescues, apprenticing and completing private studies in behavior and training. Since taking ownership in 2011, she's made PRO K-9's mission to not only help clients, but also provide crucial training and behavior support for local rescues dogs to successfully prepare them for adoption.

DO NOT make a deposit if you are registering for the waitlist or to be notified of class availability. If a spot becomes available, we'll notify these clients in the order received, and payment is due within 24 hours of notification to reserve your spot. Once we receive your registration form and payment, we'll review your information and send a confirmation email as soon as possible.
While we are maintaining business as usual, Jen is focused on recovery and following her doctor's directions. Her capacity for working with clients this year is greatly diminished as she continues with chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. You can stay updated on her journey on her Fabebook page. We're beyond grateful for everyone's continued support and help for Jen and her family!
We heard how so many of you wished there was a place for a dog like yours to safely play, learn and socialize. That's why we've specially designed a nearby 10-acre facility to give dogs and their owners a great new option. Where can I safely exercise my dog? What other activities can we do? Dedicated owners know that consistency and time and key factors in any training process.
Pets for adoption are regularly up to date on vaccinations, preventative health care and spayed or neutered. Rescues in foster homes allow you to get to know what the adoptable pet is like in a home setting. Adult pets (2+ years) let you know who they are without having to go through all the work of puppy raising.

They've been great for me and my dog who presented challenges from a young age. I had a tough time finding trainers that didn't immediately jump to aversives for every problem. Pro-K9 is different and they genuinely want to help you and your dog. We are very grateful. If you've got a training concern I recommend reaching out to them!

I highly recommend PRO K-9. My rescue dog has improved tremendously after working with Jen, starting in-home and then moving to group settings. During the first year I had with my rescue, he was having behavioral issues due to anxiety, but I thought I'd figure out how to deal with him on my own because I'd grown up with dogs all my life. But he simply wasn't improving.
Eventually I reached a point where I knew I needed professional help. Jen has a very methodological approach for working with dogs. She guides you on the very fine details that you might be missing but which make a big difference to your dog. The improvement in my dog's behavior from where he started to now is undeniable. It's not just that he listens to me more when I say "sit" and "down"; more importantly, I feel like he's happier and that the training has relieved some of his anxiety by giving him more confidence in himself and in me.

After a nearly 17 year hiatus since we last utilized the services of Pro K-9, we are back again as clients with our new puppy. Pro K-9 is comprised of professional trainers that geniuely care about ensuring that both pets and family's enjoy their training experience and reach success! When I adopted my dog I had no idea how hard of a time he would have adjusting to a new home. Jen, owner of Pro K9, came on the standard 6 home visits and was really awesome with my dog. He responded very well to her. The socializing classes helped him too, though I wish there were a little more interaction between the dogs. However, since she handles a lot of dogs with aggression problems, I can understand why having the dogs stop and meet each other isn't a great idea.

My family hired PRO K-9 after adopting a rescue dog who growled at anyone new, destroyed anything he could reach when left alone, pulled on the leash like an ox, and was highly reactive to other dogs (was he excited? was he being aggressive? we couldn't tell). Having raised dogs from puppies, we weren't sure how to approach this dog's behavior problems since he was already older and had established these bad habits. Jen came out to our house and explained what was going on.
Our dog had fear-aggression: he was afraid of new people and new dogs, and without the option to flee, he chose to fight (by growling as a warning). He needed to build his confidence in himself as well as in us as the pack leaders. If he trusted us, his fear would lessen. To build that trust, we had to establish boundaries and rules, the way a pack leader would.
Without a clear leader, our dog would feel that he needed to step up to the plate. The on-going support that PRO K-9 provides through supervised socializing groups allows our dog to safely interact with new people, dogs, and situations without fear and keeps us connected with the trainers on a weekly basis to check in about issues that may have come up. PRO K-9 not only helped train our dog, but helped train US to understand our dog better, to react to him properly and know how to respond if he had a problem.
We think our dogs can read our minds, but they can't. But we can communicate with them if we speak to them in a way they can understand. Jen helped us listen to our dog and learn how to communicate with him. He's still a work in progress (aren't we all?) but he come so much farther because of PRO K-9.

We have a lab mix that started displaying signs of aggression and we knew we needed help. We signed up for the Dog Training for Life program and a trainer met with us in our home for several weeks. We then started attending the group training sessions weekly. The in-home training was excellent. Jen was very calm and knowledgeable and helped us tremondously.
She showed us how to obedience train our dog (without treats or a clicker) and how to properly correct disobedience. The group training sessions are very well organized. While it is great for practicing obedience, it is an even better environment for behavior training. Pro K-9 also offers a lot of additional training and programs that we plan to take advantage of. Highly recommend Pro K-9 - wish we would have come here first!

I highly recommend Pro K-9! I have two dogs who started the class at the age of 3. So we had three years of bad habits to break. From the very first meeting I knew my husband and I have made the right choice! Through out the training process and to this day they have helped me with any questions that I have had and always made us feel comfortable. Pro K9 are not only respectful, courteous, and professionals you can tell they love animals and LOVE what they do.
