In addition to his professional training, Jim has more than 30 years of hands-on experience. Because choosing a qualified trainer is an important decision, we invite you to call or visit our facility (by appointment, please!) and meet with Jim personally to discuss your dog's needs. References are available upon request.
We are conveniently located on ten wooded acres just off I-75 in beautiful Berea, Kentucky. A peaceful, natural setting with great views, the kennel is perched on top of a little hill and is surrounded by trees and flowers. Our indoor-outdoor kennels are climate controlled and are adjacent to an ample exercise area.
Obedience training is a must for your pet's safety and well-being. It will give you access to critical information and guidance and help you establish a positive working relationship with your pet. In addition, a well-trained dog is always a pleasure to be around. Contrary to popular belief, you can teach an old dog new tricks!
If you are the proud owner of a new pup less than eighteen weeks old, we recommend our Puppy Program. By enrolling in this program, you will have a "puppy coach" to help and support you during the first few weeks of pet ownership, an important learning time for both you and your pup. The fee for this program is $100 and includes phone consultations and one private introductory basic obedience class here at the kennel.
If you choose this option, your dog will come and stay with us here at our kennel, which is located right next to our home. Your dog should be at least eighteen weeks old. During the three week intensive, Jim will teach your pet all of the basic obedience commands. By working with your dog several times a day, he/she will receive training, playtime and exercise.

So after all the money spent the only thing that happened to my dog was he lost 9 pounds and for some reason both his front paws and nose were torn up from "hitting his kennel". Today my family got a call from the owner and he told her all my dogs behavior was now our fault for not bringing him back for training. I was informed that I would be contacted to set up a training but was never called until today and didn't even talk to the owner. Im a cancer patient and enjoy my dogs and I informed the owner it was hard for me to do the full training and was told no problem. I just can't believe someone would offer a service and after 3 weeks of nothing, it my fault and not his!

Jim is a fantastic trainer! Our dog was nearly unmanageable when we dropped her off, and by the time we picked her up she had learned to sit, heel, stay, lie down, come, and is so good at all of it! Jim also has been very patient and thorough in training all of us to deal with the dog in the best way possible. We're so glad we chose Durham Kennels!
