Services
Pet World is a multi-licensed, locally owned, animal rehoming center. We operate our exotic rescue shelter publicly, right in the middle of our huge, full line pet store. All fish and retail animals are responsibly sourced and all animals, including rescues, regardless of origin, are fully integrated into the general population in the same way, with equal care, husbandry, exposure, and accessibility to the public.
Repeatedly voted "Best Place to Work" by Best of Lawrence, you'll find the Pet World staff to be unlike anything you've ever seen. Unique and diverse yet inclusive and cohesive. Bright, dedicated, and above all else, passionate about what they do. From our youth volunteers to our special needs staff to our part timers to our long term managers, the people of Pet World are the best in the business.
Goliath is Pet World's locally famous Burmese Python and has been a part of our staff for many, many years. He is currently about 13' long weighing about 100 lbs but he could grow to be close to 20ft when full grown and weigh up to 200lbs. Our customer favorites are probably the giant African Spur Thigh tortoises also known as Sulcattas.
In 2014 Pet World launched a series of blogs. The business was thriving so after 27 successful years the owners were making a shift into semi-retirement from the rehoming center itself into online sales, more nature camps, and eco tourism. However, after the 2015 fire destroyed everything, all efforts had to be spent rebuilding the Pet World Experience back from literally nothing. It's been a journey to say the least. Finally, in 2020, we are pretty much back to where we were in 2015 and picking up where we left off.

We are in Lawrence since last couple of years but it was only yesterday that we came to know about Pet world. This place is simply amazing. So many reptiles birds fishes under the same roof. The staffs are super friendly. The tortoise dug out is so amazing. We took our dog too and she had an amazing time also.

Loved this place. We are from Omaha & made a stop in with my family from Eudora. Unfortunately, Omaha does not have a pet store that's anything like this store. My daughter loved feeding the giant tortoises and the monster fish. She thought that was just amazing! My cousin actually bought a ball python and necessities while we there. The 2 employees that were assisting her were very knowledgeable about all the reptiles and made everyone very comfortable with purchasing the snake. Pretty cool place! We will definitely be back when were in town & recommend to everyone.

Pet World has been the pinnacle of animal care and knowledge in Lawrence and surrounding towns for years! While the pandemic hasn't been kind to anyone this shop still seems to thrive and is full of life! Pun intended. I used to visit this shop all the time when I lived in Lawrence to check out their baby Veiled Chameleons and the knowledge and passion their reptile specialist/handler had back then was astounding. A fun detour if you find yourself needing something to do in Lawrence and if you leave yourself open you might find a new furry/scaly/feathery love interest to bring home

Pet world is hands down the best pet store to go to! I've been shopping here for years and will continue to support them. The staff are extremely friendly and ready to help with any question you have. The store is filled with pet food, supplies, and adorable creatures. There is something for everyone here!
