Winchester Pet Care is a full-service veterinary medical facility located in Overland Park and serving the greater Kansas City area. The veterinarians and staff of Winchester Pet Care have been working to keep your pets healthy and happy since Dr. Rucker founded the clinic in 1992. We are a full-service veterinary clinic offering a range of services, including routine vet care, boarding, daycare, and so much more.

Dr. Rucker graduated from the University of Missouri in 1982 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. He has practiced in a variety of fields, including large animal, specialty, emergency, and small animal.

Dr. Rucker and staff have been just amazing in caring for Zak and Benji. It meant a lot to me today that Dr. Rucker took a minute just to listen to Zak's heart real quick even though he was super busy. He is straightforward, but compassionate and I value his advice for how to provide our guys with the best care possible.

This vet is excellent. We've gone here for 10+ years with our pets. One of ours now has a critical, long term illness which requires specialist care at Mizzou, and Dr Rucker has been super supportive throughout the process. This place actually wants to help your pet and do a good job, for which i am grateful, especially during this stressful time. The desk people and tech are wonderful too. Thank you!

Dr. Rucker is amazing. Under his care, I had two cats live to 18 years old, and currently have two dogs at 16 and 15. He and his staff know us when we come in, and while he'll explain all possible courses of action, he doesn't upswell the most expensive - he recommends what he thinks is right for the pet. I'm so happy with his care over the past 16 years that we now drive from 30 minutes away (we moved in the meantime) to continue his excellent care. Side note, dogs always come back happy from boarding as well!

My vet clinic closed during the pandemic. I've been using another but am not impressed by them. So I wanted to give this clinic a try. All I needed were boosters at the moment. But they won't give them unless I also pay for an exam, which is more than double the total of that visit. I felt a bit taken advantage of being forced into an unnecessary and expensive exam when she just had one at another vet.
No offer to see her records or anything. Just pay us to take a look too. I sure miss my farm vet where every single thing wasn't a way to leverage the most amount of money as possible out of you. That's why I'm leaving Banfield Pet Hospital too. It just seems cold, and all about the money.

Been taking my dog here for years after a friend recommended them to me. The staff is wonderful and Dr. Rucker always does a great job of explaining and answering questions without making you feel rushed. The prices are very reasonable compared to other vets in the area which is an added bonus. Highly recommend!

I board my pets here when we go on vacay. They put our Pom in an area away from the bigger dogs, since they freak her out a little bit. They tell me she just watches them while they work. What I like best is that Dr. Rucker doesn't try expensive tests until they're needed. He also doesn't push expensive procedures that other vets have done to us in the past.
He listens, answers questions, and has taken great care of our animals. They're also very compassionate when is comes to sending your pet to their next journey. They even sent us a sympathy card afterwards.

I have been taking my Maltese here for several years. Not once have I left disappointed (as I have with other places). The front office staff is very friendly and kind (I'm speaking of you, Robin!). I'm a person with TONS of questions, and the staff here is always patient with me, and is always willing to listen to my concern and answer all questions. Dr. Rucker is wonderful as well.
He seems to truly care about my dog. I never leave feeling like there's more they could've done for my dog. Also, the groomer here is the BEST! Long as this place exists, I will continue to take my animals here. Thank you to everyone that works here!
