Dog Training in Carlsbad - We have superior training methods with proven results. It is very important to dogs in their own Canine Psychology that they know where their boundaries of behavior lie. At Hot Dog On A Leash, we believe in positive reinforcement, motivation, and moderation. As is the case in most arguments or discussions, the truth usually can be found in the middle ground. Just as with children, we believe in rewards for good behavior and correction at the level that fits the dog's personality, size, age, and willingness.

Hot Dog on a Leash has Trainers/Behavior Specialists with over 15 years of experience with all types of dogs, big or small. When a dog learns to make his own decisions based upon his experiences, he becomes able to be reliable off the leash and is more capable of problem solving in unusual or difficult situations.
We offer a 1-week package or a 2-week package that focuses on fundamental, everyday obedience with a high level of precision. Loose leash/off leash training with distractions. Both programs are intensive. After completion of the training, the owner receives 2 to 3 hours of one-on-one, hands on instruction, at which time we go into detail everything their dog knows, how to handle them, and how to control them with distractions.
Do you have a puppy or dog and want him or her to get off on the right paw? At Hot Dog On a Leash, we offer 7 to 28-day programs. This is our most popular Training program, as it allows the owner to drop off their dog in the morning and pick up after work. At that time we go over with the clients what their dog has learned that day.
Hot Dog On A Leash will help your family learn in a positive way to introduce your puppy to his or her new home. This is perfect for dogs 8 to 12 weeks old. It includes "PRIVATIZED CUSTOMIZED TRAINING" sessions, in-home training and field work training. 5 stars for Hot Dog On A Leash. My golden retriever Jackson had been to many trainers, but the issues were never resolved.

This is one of the rare reviews I leave on Google, but I feel compelled to do so because I have had SUCH a great experience with Hot Dog on a Leash. After a year of trying to train our 2 year old Shepard/Boxer rescue, we had finally had it with the frustrating leash "walks" - which were more like trying to tame a wild bull at a rodeo. Our boy is great at all of the basic commands - Sit, Down, Stay, Don't Touch - but when it comes to who's leading who on the leash it's always a battle.
No matter what we tried - gentle leader, martingale, prong collar - our boy would find a way to charge full speed ahead leaving both myself AND my 6'2, 200 pound husband dragged behind him. I started exploring training solutions and came across Hot Dog on A Leash. No less than 30 minutes after submitting an enquiry for training options, Heather (the owner) contacted me personally and spoke with me over the phone about our boy's behaviors and the services her team could provide.
She offered us what I think was an INCREDIBLE deal for bootcamp training combined with private lessons. Since our dog has gone to training, we have discovered that he is toy-aggressive with larger dogs and he was asked to bring a soft muzzle to class with him. Within a week the trainer Cliff had set boundaries for our dog and let him know he wouldn't be able to have muzzle-free Toy Time unless he behaved himself.
He now gets to play with other large dogs without his muzzle and is much better behaved - I've seen the fruits of this labor just recently at the dog park when he was much more subdued upon meeting a new male friend. Walking continues to be a work in progress, but Cliff has already done wonders as far as setting the tone for "working time" on his leash, a dedicated exercise now where we work with commands and walk with purpose.
It's not close, but I dare say it is MUCH more enjoyable that it ever has been. In just a short amount of time we have been armed with lots of great personal insight into our dog's behavior from a professional who gives us his objective opinion, and we've felt so much more confident handling him on a leash. We still have a bit more to go, so I will update this in a month's time with more information as he progresses through his training with Hot Dog on a Leash.
But for now, I am thoroughly impressed with the change I have seen in my dog in just 8 sessions! Oh, I forgot to mention - at the end of each day we get videos sent to us to show us what he worked on during his one-on-one training and sometimes we get videos to see his behavior at playtime, which is so fun to see. And EVERY SINGLE TIME we pick him up he is so pooped and completely happy!
He comes home and eats his dinner and literally doesn't move from his bed until it's time to get up for "school" the next morning, to which he LEAPS out of bed for! So stoked on how our work at Hot Dog on a Leash is progressing, my only wish is that I ha prioritized his training sooner!

Hot Dog On a Leash has been a lifesaver for me this year while trying to juggle an extremely crazy work schedule which includes travel, a ~1 year-old VERY active pup, along with a deployed boyfriend - during crazy pandemic times. Words cannot express how thankful I am for them 'cause it takes a "village" to raise a Bentley. Heather, Cliff & team are professional and most important - excellent trainers and animal lovers.
Even though I've never met Heather, it almost feels like she's family or a friend, she's provided recos on animal stuff (like dental, etc.) and sends me cute phtos and videos of my little love bug. She also got him a cute batman outfit while I was out of town for Halloween and took the cutest photo ever I did see. Also, Bents is so excited every time he realizes we are heading to camp.
And if we ever arrive too early for camp - I wait to text that I'm there and he whines and goes crazy in the backseat wanting to be let out (which he NEVER does). While I want to keep them to allllll to myself, I realize that would be selfish, and would also keep some fine future friends away from Bentley. So, I'm passing on the love - please don't steal my spot :-). Highly recommend!

Small doggy daycare business owned by Cliff and Heather. They have two locations that are in homes with big yards. I like knowing my baby girl is well loved and looked after. They will even do pick up and drop offs if you need them to! Great prices. They have a lot of different services. Check them out!

Heather and the team at Hot Dog on a Leash have been an incredible resource for our family. From the time I connected with Heather before our puppy was born she and Cliff, (our dog trainer) took the time to speak with us and help us prepare a plan to bring home puppy, crate train her and eventually go to a 14 day boot camp. I didn't have to worry about going into work while she wasn't old enough because there was a plan in place and help as needed.
They cared and the results have been amazing. We knew we wanted a very trained dog and we have been so pleased with the results. They set the expectation from the beginning as in to what it requires from an owner to partner up with them in order to get the results. Every time I have had a question or doubt about anything, or feel like our dog needs a little extra help they have been on top of it.
We decided to send our dog to daycare twice a week to get socializing with other puppies as a result of the care/love she gets from the team. The convenience of a pet taxi and interaction twice a week with the same people that trained her is totally helping our girl Nova with reinforcement. Highly recommend Cliff, Heather, Bridgette and the team.

I would highly recommend Hot Dog on a Leash for several reasons. First of all, my French Bulldog is like my child. I don't just trust him with anybody. However, being a teacher, I need somewhere for my pup to go during the day to socialize and get exercise. Hot Dog on a Leash is the perfect place for my pet. Since they open up after I start work, they pick up my pup at my house.
They literally walk into my home, peel my pup off the couch, and drive him to camp. Then.they make sure that he wears his jacket if it's cold outside, they feed him lunch at noon, and they play with him all day long. The best part is, the camp has several cameras that I can log into on my computer to witness all the fun! I know my dog loves it there because when I pull up, he gets very excited.
All I have to do is open the car door, and he runs right up to the gate! The staff loves my pup there and he loves them! I have used HDOL for training as well. I get compliments all the time on how well behaved my dog is and I am able to take my dog with me everywhere I go. I use HDOL for boarding my dog when I travel. One of the staff will take my dog home with them and they even let him sleep in their bed! That's what I'm talking about! This is the place for your pup!

Hot Dogs On A Leash is the BEST day care and trainer Cliff is amazing. All of the pups are so happy and well cared for. They have helped so many families learn how to best care for their dogs through the training process. I have seen dogs bloom into wonderful, well trained versions of themselves. I recommend Hot Dogs to all of my friends!

Hot Dog was recommended to us by friends. Our Boxers were trained by Cliff at boot camp with great results - he did an amazing job. We continue to use Hot Dog for day care and boarding. The dogs are always excited to be dropped off and come home happy and tired after a day of playing. I would not hesitate to recommend Hot Dog On A Leash.

We adopted our pup Cooper as a rambunctious 9 month old and quickly found out that he had quite the loud reaction when seeing other dogs on walks. We took him to a different training center and had a very good experience there. He learned a lot of basic obedience.but.the barking on leash continued and they never got him close enough to a dog to really see what the issue was.
A friend told us about Hot Dog on a Leash and I called Heather to get more info on the bootcamp program. She was very quick with her response and just in speaking with me identified that a big issue was our dog's confidence. We did the 7 day boot camp and Randy and his team were amazing! I loved that Cooper didn't have to stay overnight to participate in an intensive program (such a unique and amazing program set up!).
Within 2 days they had him out with the other dogs and he did awesome! No barking, no signs of aggression, just our playful and happy pup. After bootcamp, we worked one on one with Randy on leash skills and the difference is night and day. The other amazing thing about their program is that there is somewhere to transition your dog after bootcamp. Cooper still goes to doggy daycare and loves it there. I love that the environment is not a sterile, closed in facility, but rather a large backyard. Thank you for everything! We are so grateful to have found you guys!

We had scheduled a personality assessment for our puppy at Hot Dog on a Leash for doggie daycare and was told to come in the morning and when I confirmed and asked "and by morning you mean.", was told around 8:00 am. When we arrived, we were greeted by an extremely intimidating gentleman that turned us away saying our appointment was at 10 AM. At no point in my conversations with anyone did I hear a time of 10 AM.
When we were speaking, my dog was sniffing on the grass and he said "can you keep the dog off the grass". I was shocked by his manner but also that they don't allow dogs to sniff on the grass at doggy daycare?! We cancelled our 10 AM "appointment" and will never return.

I tried to call this place about 6x and I spoke to a man twice about getting some swim classes for my dog. He said he would get back to me and he never contacted us back. It's been over a month and we still haven't heard back. I really wanted to take my dog here since they have a heated pool and my dogs joints would benefit from it. Only reason for the two stars is because of the lack of communication.

My dog Kannon was anxious, and jumpy towards others, within days he no longer needed his muzzle. Randy took the time to get to know my dog and in no time he was comfortable at doggy daycare. We completed our training and my dog is transformed. He is obedient and I can walk my dog safely anywhere. I'm so grateful for finding hot dog on a leash. Now I look forward to all of the fun I can have with my dog in the future. Thank you. See you at doggy daycare.

I am so grateful to have found Hot Dog On a Leash. I adopted a 6 mos old pup that was very fearful of dogs and would be uncontrollably aggressive when he saw another dog. It was a nightmare to take him anywhere. I started off with puppy training at Petsmart, the instructor had to ask us to leave on day 2 because my pup would bark and growl at the other pups.
She said, "this is NOT going to work." I asked the Petsmart trainer how I should go about socializing my pup, she basically didn't respond to my question and I felt she thought he was a loss cause. I immediately contacted Heather and she right away started a 1:1 board and train with Randy. I am NOT exaggerating: on day 2, I had a different puppy.
I too thought he was a loss cause of changing, but Randy's expertise of understanding the psychology of the dogs and his dedication to train them is phenomenal. On day 2 of training, Randy had my 6lb, 6 mos old pup sitting next to a formerly aggressive 50lb German Shepherd. The owner of the German Shepherd and I were silently very nervous and in awe because we could not believe this was ever possible.
I am forever grateful to Hot Dog On a Leash. My pup is now happier and enjoys his walks seeing and socializing with other dogs. I honestly didn't think this was possible especially in such a short time frame and with the disappointment of the Petsmart trainer, I did feel I made a terrible mistake adopting this sweet pup. I love love my new forever puppy and I'm very grateful for the tools Randy has taught me to continue to have an obedient, socialized and sweet dog.

We are taking scenting classes and loving every minute of it! Heather breaks the steps down so my pup is having fun & being successful. Okay you caught me., and I'm having fun too. My pup also goes to day camp. I can't say enough about how much he loves getting to stretch his legs in their large, beautiful camp area. It's clean, has interactive equipment, and quite frankly has a better view than my house! The staff is friendly, provides constant supervision, and can I mention clean up enough? No yucky paws when I take him home!

This place has the absolute worst customer service. I was looking for a daycare for my dog. I called minimum once a day (sometimes twice) with messages. They finally text me saying sorry we missed your call and said they would call later that evening. Of course they didn't call. I texted the number back a few days later (of course many phone calls and messages left ) and Heather replied she would call at 3pm.
Of course around 3pm I get a text message saying they can't call and will call at 6pm. You think I got a phone call at 6pm?! Absolutely not. Worst customer service ever. And after reading other reviews, I'm not surprised. How does this place do any business? You think I'm going to trust this business to leave my dog here during the day when I can't get a simple phone call after five business days with multiple attempts and messages left each day. I don't know how this place gets any business when they can't even call a customer back.

Perhaps the most unprofessional people I have ever dealt with. In brief: They missed our first appointment, for valid reasons. That was not a problem for us. Then proceeded to ignore all follow up calls and messages. At one point we called from a different number and they literally hung up on us. Attempted to get any response and was ignored Sadly the owner of this company needs some obedience training themselves.

These people are the WORST dog trainers I've come across! (And I've worked with at least a dozen different dog trainers over the years.) They are completely disorganized flakes that are HORRIBLE at providing any type of structured teaching! At our first appointment we met at the park in Bressi Ranch behind Trader Joes. We were greeted by a group of homeowners who were threatening to call the police because they said Hot Dog on a Leash was operating illegally in the park. Randy, the owner, assured me they were authorized to give lessons there.
The next week we received a text message that they are now training out of a park 15 minutes away. Hmm. If they were authorized to use the first park, why did they have to move to a different park? Anyway, on the first meeting we were supposed to meet Randy. But when we got there Randy's wife, who is not really a dog trainer, was there instead.
She told us she was doing the lesson because Randy's hand was injured from a dog bite. But then Randy got there and was doing a lesson with another dog. So apparently he was unable to work with our dog, but he was fine working with this other dog. Then another dog trainer named Heather shows up and takes over for Randy's wife. So in the course of 45 minutes we were switched off to different trainers three times.
But that wasn't even the worst part. What they were telling us to do with our 16 week old puppy was a joke. ALL trainers and training books start training puppies with teaching them to sit on command and expand from there. Randy and company started our 16 week old puppy with learning how to heal on leash! Our puppy didn't heal once during either of two lessons! Starting puppy training with the much more difficult task of healing is ridiculous.
So the following week Randy and company were on vacation so we were told we would receive a text for when and where to meet that next week. That was a month ago and we still haven't heard anything despite having to pre-pay for 6 lessons. But that's okay. I wouldn't let them anywhere near my dog again! We found infinitely better dog trainers at Kindred Spirits Dog Training.
If you are considering Hot Dog on a Leash, do yourself and your dog a favor and go watch a class with Randy and then watch a class at Kindred Spirits. The difference with trainers that are good at what they do is really quite remarkable.

I couldn't be happier with the care and attention my 7 month old husky puppy is getting with her training. We started Rogue at 5 months old in Basic Obedience and have since moved up to Advance Obedience training. I have always had prompt replies with all the staff and flexibility with scheduling. I feel a tremendous amount of pride when my friends tell me I have such a awesome dog. It's Hot Dog On A Leash's understanding and enthusiasm that makes them such great trainers. Our daily routine has gone from a disconnected disaster to flawless joy! 5 STARS. Keep up the awesome work!

I know first hand that the Hot Dog on a Leash team is AWESOME. As an client of Heather and Randy's, I applaud their dedication to protect a dog they're pet sitting. I feel extremely comfortable allowing them to come into my home and take my puppy to play for awhile! our dogs ALWAYS HAVE FUN and are alwsys return safe and very tired : When I have the occasion to bring my own dog, he plays with the dogs brought to the park by Heather/Randy and LOVES LOVES LOVES the attention he gets from them as well! An OUTSTANDING team of PROFESSIONALS all around!
