To the business manager, if you would have t aken the time to read my review, you would have noticed that I had called them several times, why would I call them back after the Director Felicia tells me that it wasn't them it had to be my friend or my husband. Your business is just bad, on top of that Boomer came back with a real bad cough which had to be treated. Your people just don't care. If anybody reads this don't bring your dog or cat there.

We have taken two rabbits here and they were very well taken care of. Vets were very knowledgeable and had all the equipment available to help small pets (obviously, but we just had bad experiences in the past with vets who say they are knowledgeable about small pets). They are a bit pricy but worth it to know they are getting great care. The appointments never feel rushed, my husband asks a lot of questions and they are very patient with him. We drive an hour and a half to see this pet hospital. 10/10 would recommend. We've had about 4 different vets working with one of our rabbits and they are all great.

My budgie got extremely sick. I called Pender around 11pm. They told me they were already at capacity. However, when I described how sick my bird was they agreed to see him. The place seemed very crowded for midnight on a Thursday but they still made time for my little bird. I didn't have high hopes for his survival but Dr. Fujimoto-Gomez took amazingly good care of him. I'm 100% convinced that she saved my bird's life. He's still not back to 100% but he's doing much better now thanks to the wonderful staff at Pender.

I came to Pender after my chinchilla had a sudden and serious eye infection. I called and was told to come in (during after hours) but that there would be a 1-2 hour long wait. I waited exactly 2 hours after arriving and was seen by Dr. Fujimoto Gomez, who was extremely kind and helpful and prescribed drops for my chinchilla's eye. She did a full exam on my chinchilla, which eased me.
She reassured me and answered all of my questions! I was also helped by Eric who was also very kind, friendly, and informative. Staff here were great in my experience, and despite the long wait, I understand it was sudden and late at night. My chinchilla is better now too! I would recommend coming here.

I can't thank Pender Vet Exotics and the staff enough for everything. My hamster took two trips to this vet. The first time was an emergency visit to figure out what was wrong, and the second was unfortunately to put him down as it turned out to be something more serious. Dr. Fedderly was with us both times and gave quick responses to my emails. I recieved the ashes back within a week which was wonderfully packaged and a sympathy card in the mail from Dr. Fedderly. The care in their work is fantastic and I completely recommend Pender Vet.

They are wonderful. Very trustworthy. Very thorough. Very kind and understanding of one's anxieties and the fact simply being there for us is stressful. Our Ferrets have never been in better hands and trust me, they have needed help. I live in Martinsburg and drive to Fairfax an hour and a half each way because this vet is better and cares more about my fuzzy kids than anybody else near me. There is literally NO way we are willing to try and save any time when our loved ones are at stake.we're going to the best there is.

I don't know where to begin. My poodle dog had some big issues with his ear infection for a couple of years and I been to many different Veterinary for his ear issues almost once a month for two years. Spending somuch money. But his ear problem was never getting better instead was getting worse. So far I spend almost $10,000 dollars for his hospital bill just for his ear problems.
My life was so miserable for couple of years because It was somuch pain to watching my baby dogs in pain everyday. I decided to give it a try to come Pender at Fairoaks location and Met Doctor Flanary. OMG Dr Flanary is the Best Veterinarian Doctor among all other Doctor I met in the passed. He is amazing and truly care about my dogs pain and he was the only doctor cured my dogs ear problem. All staffs are very friendly and just everything they do is soooo professional. God bless this people and Dr Flanary. Thank you Thank you.

How can you call yourself an emergency vet? I have an 11 year old Akita who was showing severe signs of distress and bloat, and what was I told.sorry we are not taking emergencies at this time because we are full. What? Do you not prioritize a dog who is dying over other emergencies? Thank god for another emergency vet in Fairfax who took my dog in spite of being at capacity as well because they recognized a true emergency. If you are not going to take true emergencies, then do not advertise yourself as an emergency vet.

Pender Vet in Fairfax is a liable place to come if your pets are in emergency. I took my pets here twice, they were 2 little hamsters. One got recovered amazingly but the other unfortunately did not make it. Doctor and staff members were so friendly and professional. They even made a little box for my passed away hamster. Thank you for all your help!

I'm grateful to the staff at Pender for being communicative with me and carrying out their duty of care. It was very nerve-wracking to leave my baby (my cat) here for dental surgery. The staff here welcomed me and my questions about their procedures, facilities, and billing from the moment I walked in the doors. I know my cat, like most cats, is not enthusiastic about going to the doctor's office, let alone for surgery, but there is a comfort in knowing my cat was in capable hands and will live a more healthy life thanks to the care she received.

I took my birds in months ago. After leaving messages to request not only the results of my animals test but my bill. I have not once heard back, not once. Then what do you know I get a bill in the mail from collections. They had the decency to call me. That was 2 days ago and the said they would send a message for Pender to call me back as I have yet to get any response but you want me to pay a bill! I don't recommend this place if you want a response or results.

Absolutely fantastic care! I had 1 emergency and 1 ongoing problems with 2 hamsters. There were no vet clinic. nearby who had exotic animal vets available in 2 months. I called Pender and they scheduled an exam next day and a surgery on the following day after the exam. The surgery went very well on such a tiny rodent patient, and they let me check on him over the phone at night as the night shift staff cared for the hospitalized animals all night.
They also made time for the other hamster and offered lab test and management plan. The staff were so nice and professional, and explained treatment, meds, how to administer meds to me thoroughly for each of 2 hamsters. Best vet experience ever! ((PLUS, the cost was even less than another 2-star exotic vet who charged $200+ more and did not seem tp care about the emergency situation and was very cold.))

Professional, empathetic, and informative. I brought my 10 year old corn snake in to Pender Exotics hospital today to be seen for an issue with his tail. We received information on how to access the clinic with a text that told us to park in a specific area in the back where their Exotics clinic is located. We arrived a little early but were seen immediately and in a room within minutes. 2 vet techs took our information down and weighed my snake, then let us know the vet would be in momentarily.
The vet, Dr. Reukauf, was kind, confident, and knowledgeable. My snake was prescribed an antibiotic regimen via intramuscular injection and I was shown expertly how to perform the injections myself at home. I went in today very nervous for my snake, and come what may, I am confident that the Pender Exotics team will make him comfortable and as healthy as can be.

We called the Fairfax location at 10:30pm last night and asked them if they see exotics. They said yes. We told them our Bearded Dragon was vomiting blood. He was in very bad shape. They said, "We have a vet that can probably fit you in." We told them we were on our way. When we arrived about 30m later, we were told the vet was getting ready to. leave and they couldn't help us.
Over an intercom, we were told that it would be breaking some kind of law if they were to let us in or help us. They suggested we take him to Baltimore! An hour and half drive! Our bearded dragon was literally bleeding out and gasping for air on their front porch and they suggested we drive to Baltimore. A tech.

We actually went here a while ago but I'm only now getting around to reviewing. We moved to Virginia and shortly after my dog with Cushing's started deteriorating quickly. We brought her in to Pender and they supported our decision to put her to rest. Since we didn't know anyone who could watch him, my husband took care of my 1 yo son, while the extremely kind and patient vet sat with me (8 months pregnant at the time) on the floor while she passed.
They offered to spread her ashes and pressed her paw print into clay with her name as a keepsake. They were very kind to a sobbing, hormonal, emotional wreck of a pregnant woman.

We are longtime clients of Pender and we can't say enough good things about the staff at both the Fairfax and Chantilly campuses! They are so caring and professional - we wouldn't go anywhere else for our pup Thorin. They have gone above and beyond for us on several occasions and we are especially lucky to have Dr. Gerbig in Chantilly - she is the best! From routine to emergency services, we have never had a disappointing experience and are so grateful to have such excellent veterinary services in Northern VA!

The BEST care my dog and I have ever experienced! We originally went to Pender because it was the only ER not at capacity and after that first visit it became our "FOREVER VET". All of the doctors were communicative-calling when they said they would, checking in consistently, really listened, spent real time speaking with me, and even texted and sent pictures and videos.
My dog (a french bulldog) had to go under anesthesia; I was worried about this because of the risk this poses especially for bully breeds. The doctors really listened to my concerns and the precautions they took before, during and after anesthesia went beyond thorough and they kept me in the loop every step of the way. I cannot speak highly enough of this STELLAR group of veterinarians, veterinary assistants, and staff. We are eternally grateful to Pender and so thankful to have found our forever vet!

Pender is not our regular vet since we live a decent drive away, but they took wonderful care of our pup during a weekend (off-hours) emergency when our vet was closed. She ended up staying overnight with them and it was clear that she was well-loved during her time there. All of the vets and vet techs we interacted with were communicative, caring, and willing to answer all of our questions. Very thankful for their great emergency care - our girl is home and on the mend!

Our dog spent last weekend at Pender's boarding site in Chantilly, where he's been before, with no problems. A few hours after bringing him home on Monday, however, he started a terrible, deep, incessant cough, accompanied by choking and spitting up. I suspected "kennel cough, " but never having seen (or heard) it before, I wasn't sure.
So I called Pender's emergency number in Fairfax around 4 pm, hoping he could be seen. I was told there was no ER vet on duty the rest of that day, or Monday night, but I could make an appointment for Wednesday! (Not sure what happened to Tuesday.) If I wanted an emergency visit, they recommended an outside vet. Tuesday morning, when our dog's condition was much worse, I did take him to another vet.
He got meds, and I got a nearly $200 bill. I later learned that Pender's boarding facility had experienced some respiratory illnesses. I know they can't guarantee your dog won't contract something while there, but I did think it unprofessional of their Fairfax office not to agree to see our dog, who definitely caught his illness at their boarding site (since he had not been around any other dogs).
To be clear, I am not unhappy with the boarding facility (which gets 4 stars), I'm unhappy with the Fairfax staff member's lack of concern once our dog contracted something at their boarding site. He's doing better, btw, which is the most important thing.

I called with a severely sick bunny and sadly the ER was full so they couldn't see her, but one of the techs. took the time to talk to me about what likely was the problem and guided me through some steps we could take to care for her at home. She could have very easily said "no, I'm sorry I can't give you medical advice over the phone without seeing your pet, " but she didn't.
She told us what to do and she was absolutely right! She knew exactly what the problem was based on her symptoms and gave me exactly perfect advice for what to do. Luckily, we caught the problem in time and were able to turn our baby around and she's doing much better. Amazingly caring people, and SMART people! I highly recommend if you have a sick bunny, bring them here!

We've been clients at Pender for about 10 years. A lot can happen in 10 years especially in the life of pets. I would be lying if I said that things have always been perfect, but nothing is. 99% of the time though we have gotten the best possible veterinary care, and there's a reason why we've remained clients. When we had to euthanize our beloved. dog, Callie, in March 2021 we went to Pender's ER and they treated her and us like royalty.
We adopted another dog just recently and I didn't hesitate to book an appointment there for a wellness exam. From the beginning to the end they are who we trust. In particular, we love Dr. Lentz and Dr. Chung

They are all about money I took my dog 3-5 times complaining about his ears and paws how red and inflamed they were. Told me to give him Zyrtec 3 pills and half a day. 1. The dose was too small it didn't help my dog at all. 2 they didn't tell me about other allergy medicine they didn't care that my poor dog suffering for a year. When I took my dog. to another vet they told me the dose they had for my dog was way too low for his size him being 104 lbs they gave options of allergy medicine they cleaned his ears way better than pender ever has they got to The issue and actually did something for my dog. Pender just cares about their money or their vets don't know what they are doing.
I took my dog so many times and did absolutely nothing. The only thing I get from them is their preventatives but never for their vets they don't care about their animals. They guilt trip you to going back and they never give you a solution I spent so much money with pender and they did nothing for my dog.

Dr. Flanary, and Fiorella are unquestionably the top veterinary team that we could ever hope for to care for our Bulldog. As experienced English Bulldog owners, our family is very particular about ensuring the best veterinary care for our pups, and from providers that understand and appreciate the idiosyncrasies of the breed. Years ago, we had a. terrible experience with another vet, whose inexperience with Bulldogs resulted in the loss of our sweet boy.
Given this history, we can say without any hesitation that Dr. Flanary and Fiorella are the absolute best, and we trust them completely. Dr. Flanary and Fiorella (Team F&F) are a power team who bring a unique approach to both veterinary.

Thank you for the great experience this Saturday. This was my first time at the ER with my ferret Pippin, and I. drove 1hr30 from WV to be seen there. Receptionist, tech and Doctor were all amazing, caring and so kind. Everything was explained well and Pippin received great care. He has fully recovered now, and I am so grateful! You guys are wonderful

I had a difficult situation with my car (battery died in the parking lot) when picking up my dog from surgery and the staff was very patient and accommodating. MandiLynn and Mike jumped my car and held Archie until I could return with a new battery. They made a stressful situation much easier for me than it could have been. Great service, and GOOD, good people. They will always have my business.

We absolutely love Pender Vet in Fairfax! Our golden retriever puppy, Barkley Rose, has visited Pender twice since coming home from the breeder. We like their friendly approach to taking care of our furry friends. From the kindness of the hands free drop off nurses to the warmth and knowledge of the vets (Dr. Carney & Dr. Flanary), they are a wonderful community resource.
We have already recommended Pender to 2 friends. Even in a pandemic, their compassion and excellence shines through. They are very receptive to answering all of your questions in a timely and thoughtful manner. So glad to be a new happy customer. Thanks! Kathy

Best dog daycare ever. Pender treats my dog as well as I would treat him, better, perhaps. The people there are great for me to deal with, even better for the dog. Not only does he love going to play with his did and human friends, but his behavior has improved since he started going to Pender. I cannot recommend pender's dog daycare more highly. They are great

We have been loyal customers since 1996 with our first rescue pup. 24 years and 6 rescues later, we dropped our 9 mos old puppies off on Sat for their first overnight. All went well. Drop off and pick up was contactless, organized and safe for us, the pups and staff. Comforting in these changing times that Mike and his crew have everything humming along.

My German shepherd loves it there. There are few places I can bring my GSD August; he's not a good candidate for dog daycare, as he gets overwhelmed and over-stimulated in crowded group play. He also has come back twice from other places (I won't name which) very sick, at one point getting pneumonia. Pender allows him his own kennel with walks, and he gets to see/interact with other dogs playfully through a fence, where all can remain safe.
Friendly staff. Only taking one star off for my harness coming back on him in strange configurations or not clipped where I have asked, but overall, I *highly* recommend Pender Pet Retreat!

Update: I went back on Wednesday to talk to the operational manager and she in a nutshell did not take responsibility. I told her I was very upset with my dog's treatment. She tried to say that even if they did use the cans I provided it was still a diet change and he would have had stomach issues. It was the receptionists fault for not using my cans, not writing in the instruction notes to use my cans.
I told her that my dog had to go to the emergency vet and was borderline hospitalized and she appeared to not care. I said even if it was a dietary change, why was my dog smelling like feces. She says, it was probably the colitis (diarrhea). So I said, so he sat in his own feces long enough for it to dry on him and no one cleaned him up? I mentioned the vomit on his toy, she said oh yeah I saw that and it looked like saliva.
All lies, he's had the toy over 2 weeks and has not thrown up on it. I told her i want my money back and she said she's not giving my money back with a snotty attitude. I asked for the corporate number and was told they don't have a corporate, I said i want to see the supervisor, she said she is the supervisor with a snotty attitude.
She tried to say that they didn't charge me for over a hundred dollars for overnight stay. That's a lie, the fee was already $189, they didn't charge me $43 late pick up because my dog was mistreated. I also noted when i picked him up they told me it was soft stool that morning and I said he had diarrhea that evening. Soft stool is different from loose stool.
This nasty manager claims that soft and loose are the same and diarrhea is different. LIES! Soft can still be picked up because it is formed. My poor dog had watery brown liquid poo being expelled from his body. He had bloody liquid poo Tuesday when i took him for the emergency vet visit. That is not normal stress diarrhea. I've already made a claim to the BBB, called Animal Control, and the ASPCA. If need be, I will get my lawyer to deal with them.

We have been taking our two huskies and yorkie to Pender in Chantilly for around 5 years now. We are always above and beyond pleased with the friendly staff and understanding doctors. We utilize both the Veterinary services and Pet Retreat. The love for animals in this place is palpable. Strange thing to say about a Vetinary/ Pet Retreat? Well, we have experienced other places discriminating our breeds. So, the welcoming staff and doctors who are excited to see each and every pet that walks, hops or crawls through their door, is extremely refreshing. I can't even compare the love we have for Pender with any other Vetinary services I have experienced. No one touches them!

While the facility is nice and 'most' of the employees are professional, thorough and capable, the manager Sami is atrocious. She is instantly rude, condescending, and unprofessional. When attempting to ask questions to understand why I have been given contradictory information, her response was very defensive and she became angry because she did not have an answer (although she was looking at a system of record). Beware that unauthorized and duplicate charges as well as systems that are not integrated can lead to conversations with Sami in which she will not handle you as a valued customer.

For overseas dog transport, they did a fabulous job! Our dog traveled from VA to Europe and Lesley was in contact the entire way and staff at Pender were kind and attentive. The transport is busy during the summer, so getting in touch with Lesley can take an email or two, but not long, she was great at getting back and answering all my concerns, never making me feel rushed.
We left our dog & crate the day before at the kennel. Pender transports everything to the airport. Pender takes care of everything from beginning to end. So great not to have that added stress. When our dog failed to arrive as expected, I phoned her personal cell number provided in the paperwork and she got right back to me working fast to find out what had happened at the connecting country.
She phoned shortly thereafter and the dog didn't make the connecting flight, but the following day he was there and doing great. He did arrive with conjunctivitis. He vomited the first two days only when left alone, being as highly anxious as he is and all the changes, I attribute it to stress. Today he is back to his usual self.

He vomited the first two days only when left alone, being as highly anxious as he is and all the changes, I attribute it to stress. Today he is back to his usual self.

Our Sphynx Tyrone spent 14 days at the pet retreat and the entire staff treated him wonderfully! We were able to see him being brought out of his kitty condo and Ty was calm, comfortable, and even happily accepted a smooch from one of the staff members. We called several times throughout his stay and obtained in-depth status reports each time. The discount for being a first timer at the pet retreat was also a plus.
Upon our return home Ty was right back to normal into his regular routine with little to no transition period. We did notice that the complimentary bath and additional kitty spa treatment hadn't been done. We called this afternoon to follow up, and the services had not been scheduled at initial check-in, which is why they weren't done. We were able to reschedule all of these services at the Fairfax campus, which is much more convenient, all free of charge. We are very pleased with our experience with the staff and services at Pender Pet Retreat and highly recommend to others!

I've been going to Pender Chantilly for years for my German Shepherd rex for either vetinary and/or daycare services but feel it fair to write a review on my experience as I see many negative reviews. First, Dr. Henderson has been the primary doctor I've dealt with and everytime communicates clearly and explains clearly any procedure or complication that has arisen over the years.
Besides the normal annual check ups, Rex, my wild and curious dog, managed to get worms as a puppy and most recently lyme disease from ticks(he's not a lap dog after all). Yet, we've dealt with these issues and he's doing great. As far as daycare goes, Rex doesn't like it but he always returns well cared for. The one thing I recommend is bathroom breaks immediately before drop off and after as they only let the dogs out once I believe.
I think this part is important because I see other reviews about kennel experiences and I think keeping the pups on a good schedule mitigates a lot of the issues. Cost is fairly reasonable and I definitely appreciate that they waive daycare fees if Rex is also in for vetinary services. Lastly, the fenced in dog park they have is a great bonus.

I checked my cat in here while we were in the process of a move. She showed up on a Thursday afternoon. The check in was easy and would recommend filling out the paperwork before hand that you can get online. Just makes life a lot easier. One of the techs showed up where our cat would stay. They also were accommodating to her eating habits because we always make food available to her.
There was one other cat in the cat area who looked exactly like my cat except he was a boy and his eyes were different colors. We joked that when my friend picked her we would end up with the other cat because they were identical. My friend picked up my cat early in the morning so the cat could be taken to the airport to fly to Texas. The cat was already set to go when my friend arrived and my friend didn't have to do to much since my paperwork was filed out and my credit card was already on file.
I made sure to call the night before to remind them that my friend was coming earlier morning. Please note that it does cost more if the cat is picked up before 7am. I would recommend boarding your cat here if you have no one to watch your cat. My cat seemed pretty normal well as normal as a cat can be. I think the airplane ride is what freaked her out the most. She was back to her bitchy self within a few days arriving to her new home.
