AFH does not help to break the dog breed stigma! They have a breed restrictions list for home renters (even though any pet restrictions should be between tenant and landlord). Who knows if they DNA test all of their dogs (doubt it), but the one we applied for was a mutt who had a DNA test done. We were denied because we rent our home and oh gosh, there must be something so awful about a 16% Rottweiler, 8% Pit, etc. Still can't believe it. We'll be going elsewhere to rescue our 2nd fur baby.

I have adopted several dogs from AFH and I am also a volunteer. They are a wonderful organization that truly cares about animals. The people who are unfairly disparaging this organization are the ones whose adoption applications were turned down and they're angry about it. Instead of accepting the decision, they have to attack a wonderful group whose volunteers work hard to find forever homes for formerly unwanted, abused, and abandoned puppies and dogs. That shows what kind of people they are so take their negative reviews with a grain of salt.

Please be careful when approaching AFH rescue. The owners are very prejudiced against certain types of people and they are blatantly discriminatory. If you mention that you have depression, they will not let you adopt the dog, if you mention that you live in an apartment, they will avoid giving you a dog. They pick and choose who they like and dislike randomly.
I used to foster for them, in fact I fostered over 40 dogs for them. But their internal workings are highly unprofessional, discriminatory and unpredictable. Many families have had their hearts broken with dealings with this organisation. Please do careful research before liaising with them. If you require any further information, I would be happy to provide further evidence.

I have been working with Forever Home Rescue for a little over a year now and have been amazed at how diligent and organized they are, even with limited administration. I am now a "foster fail" and am proud to say it. The organization is great with their fosters supplying them everything they need. They are diligent with their application process, making sure the adopter know their responsibilities before handing an animal over to them! I highly recommend adopting through them, as you know you are getting a healthy animal.

We had sent in an application about a puppy they had. The process of the application was fine, we had our phone interview and the following day we got to do a meet and greet with the puppy and our dog. We drove almost an hour and a half to meet at a pet shop. When we got there we brought our dog into the shop to meet the puppy. When my dog met the puppy she was intrigued for a few minutes and then wanted to explore.
Again we were in a pet shop with dog food. My dog was very happy and stimulated to be there and wanted to do other things besides stand by a puppy. At the end of the meet and greet we were told that we wouldn't be able to get the puppy because my dog did not care about him. MY DOG WAS VERY STIMULATED BY EVERYTHING AROUND HER. Was told that when "" first met my dog she knew it wouldn't work out. THAN WHY LET US GET EVEN SEE THE PUPPY AND BE AROUND HIM FOR AN HOUR!
Also my dog is a one dog home because she is not going to allow another dog in the house. I was very upset and so was my husband that I had to leave. We were very upset that someone can judge a book by a cover pretty much. Dogs act a lot different from in public where they have never been to in their own home. Well now we have a 9 week old puppy from the shelter that my dog LOVES to play with.
So thank you for judging us and not allowing us to adopt. That came as a blessing because now we have a adorable baby! It was probably the only good thing to come out of this whole situation. Moral of the story be careful and don't let someone judge you!

This organization has really impressed me. I was fearful about taking my first two or three foster dogs in, but the volunteers gave me the guidance and support I needed. Eventually I became so sure of my ability to care for foster dogs that I agreed to take in a small litter (five puppies) instead of just one dog at a time. Again, I got lots of support and guidance from other foster parents and volunteers.
The volunteer staff do an excellent job monitoring and managing routine vaccinations and, when needed, medical care. The policies about criteria for adoption serve the dogs well, even though they are frustrating for some applicants. Everyone I have met in AFH really cares about finding good homes for our dogs.

I adopted my dog from A Forever Home 3 years ago and it's the best decision I've ever made! The organization does an incredible job of educating new adopters. They provide all past vet records and dogs come up-to-date on vaccinations. All dogs in the organization seem very well socialized and happy! It's evident from their adoption events that they embrace all types of dogs. Young, old, disabled, and In-between. If you're looking for a puppy or dog in the northern Virginia area definitely look at A Forever Home!
