The ARL believes in teaching and rewarding your pet for desirable behavior and redirecting undesirable behaviors to appropriate ones. Training should be fun and rewarding for both you and your dog and it's a great way to develop a bond with your dog. The goal of our training program is to keep your dog in a loving home and to help them become a well-behaved companion. We offer reasonably priced training classes for people and their dogs, with the proceeds directly helping the pets waiting for their forever homes.
Why should you adopt? There are countless reasons why adopting a pet from a shelter versus purchasing a pet from a breeder or another source is better for you and the overall pet population. Bringing a new pet into your life is a big decision, and when you adopt, you're giving a loving pet the second chance it deserves - and freeing up shelter resources to help other pets in need.
Thousands of animals come through the Animal Rescue League's doors every year, but no matter how they got here or where they came from, they're provided with shelter, nourishing food, individualized medical treatment, behavioral rehabilitation when necessary, and most important: love. You are the next step in their journey to finding a loving home, and we are here to help.
The ARL's Kruidenier Second Chance Ranch is a safe haven for horses rescued from abuse, neglect and abandonment, and it is also a temporary home for other barn animals waiting for new, loving families. While horses often come to us in very rough shape, we give them the nutrition and care they need to become mentally and physically healthy.

I had the worst and similar interaction and experience as Emily and Trudie (reviews before me) did. I can't believe how this place's staff is just so horrible and gone down the tubes. Rude. Ingenious. No empathy. An embarrassment for how they treated me. I came in and disclosed I had adopted my cat from a different ARL 14 years ago and our family cats were ARL pets too- and love and support the ARL.
I mentioned I lost my cat of 14 years recently and was hoping to meet a furever pet. The staff was the most ill attentive, bored, finger knitting looking down and it was clear no one wanted to help me. Then as I looked around I was treated like a thorn in the side. I was in the way as I looked on and not acknowledged. There were only 2 descriptions and the rest of the 20+ cats had nothing.
Then they said not unless I was serious could I even go in with an adult and pet or touch any of them. I said uh I haven't even met the cat how could you be wanting to take them home.? I need to meet them and interact like I have in the past when I've visited other ARLs. Then they said oh that one you're interested in isn't available. then I said well which one is.?
They said most of them aren't. Then I said ok how is it you have all of these and NONE of them are available? They all had their operations. I said no way not all of those old cats have that. Then they ignored me. No one even offered to introduce me these cats or even other pets? I went to the car and cried at their lack of empathy. It was a slap in the face.
Not a happy place at all. I will not be supporting this ARL at this location. Thanks a lot for a heartbreaking experience with lack of empathy. Truly soul-less people working today. No one even tried to help me and avoided me and non apologetic. And the front desk girl has the nerve to finger knit and make complaints about it. I mean what a rude interaction. 22nd st. The worst disappointment not what I needed in my life at all right now.

Very disappointed. Took a dear friend of mine to adopt a cat. This was her first adoption and was excited to see all the cats. The majority of the kennels were empty. We asked about cats available at ARL West. They told us that location had 9 cats. We drove to that location. They had one cat! They sent us to another location. They had zero! They sent us to yet another location.
They had one! Luckily my friend loved that one and adopted it. What is going on with the ARL? Extremely unorganized! We were ready to give up. How many other potential adopters have given up and animals didn't receive their forever homes?

Today I took my daughter to visit with some animals, it's a Monday afternoon so I knew they wouldn't be too busy. After arriving we were told that the care techs were only there for people interested in adopting and if we just wanted to spend some time with them, we would have to look into volunteering. I said great my daughter is 4, how old do you have to be?
They told me 10. There was maybe 1 family there looking at dogs. No dogs outside getting fresh air in the runs. No treats in the bins outside of the kennels. The only interaction these animals get is the 5mins it takes to clean their kennels. It's frustrating that we can't go there and give them some attention while they wait for their forever homes.
We decided to stop in the gift shop and get a cat toy to help with the disappointment of not being able to see the animals, we were told to pay in the front where we stood for 5min before someone completely walked pasted and ignored us, so we left.

The kids and I love visiting the animal rescue league. We actually go every year the week of my birthday to see the animals and make a donation. If you want to check out the second and ranch barn you do have to reach out and contact them before going out there. We were able to walk around the barn and Ella found a rooster she fell in love with, we will be adopting him this week so excited!
