We adopted a 2 year old German Shepard / Lab mix from a shelter named Sherlock. We already had a cat and needed to integrate Sherlock into our household to co-exist successfully. When we brought Sherlock home, he was nervous, chased the cat, did not respond to commands and pulled constantly on walks with the leash. We sought out a trainer (prior to working with John) and the training techniques were treat based, confusing, and did not show results.
We knew there must be a better way and were lucky to find John at All About Dogs Training. When we took Sherlock to John, we could tell immediately from the way Sherlock and John interacted that John knew what he was doing. We worked with John for several months learning how to handle Sherlock. Throughout the process, John explained the psychology behind dog behavior and demonstrated how we could become pack leaders in the eyes of our dog.
In summary, the process made sense and worked. Sherlock now consistently responds to commands and has a relaxed demeanor. He would still like to chase the cat but listens when instructed not to chase. On walks, Sherlock walks next to us and sits when we stop walking. Sherlock no longer needs to be on a leash during walks. He is a joy to take hiking, we look forward to many more years of fun activities with our dog thanks to the training John provided.

John C. Smith the owner of a dog training facility in Cincinnati Ohio was given sweet Nola to train at his facility but took her to his residence without the owners knowledge and lost her on sat. evening. He did not contact her family till Monday morning about her disappearance and now is not taking there calls or helping to find baby Nola.

It is 92 miles round trip to All About Dogs from my home. Is it worth the trip? Absolutely! All About Dogs was suggested by the coordinator when we adopted from a rescue organization. Not thinking training was necessary, I filed away the papers. It became obvious, a couple of months later, our new dog was learning bad habits from our other dog and it was time to consult a professional trainer.
The amazing demonstration John provided with his dog at the evaluation wasn't what convinced us to enroll in his training classes. The deciding factor was his ability to work with our dogs only a few minutes before they were obeying his commands. There is no pressure to sign a contract at the evaluation. John presented four options to us while encouraging us to think it over and call him if we were interested.
Training dogs appears nearly effortless for John, while training owners seems to be far more complicated. His vast knowledge and willingness to explain things in great detail help tremendously as he guides the owner step-by-step through the process. He is both patient and tenacious wanting his clients to achieve success. It isn't easy, but the reward you receive in becoming a confident owner with obedient dogs makes it well worth the effort and hard work. If you are looking for a trainer with plenty of experience and willing to do what it takes to give you a happy and well-trained dog, John is your guy!
