At Petersen Pet Hospital in Hiawatha, we understand that special bond between pet and person. As pet owners ourselves, we feel it too. And like you, we want the best possible veterinary care for our special friends. Dr. Bradley Petersen has grown up around animals. He appreciates their quirky personalities and understands their needs.
Petersen Pet Hospital broke ground on a new building at 1031 Kacena Road in Hiawatha, Iowa in September of 2017. The new building is approximately 9580 sq. This new location was designed to better serve our clients and patients with additional exam rooms, a large comfort room, a special dental suite, surgery suite, intensive care unit, isolation ward, luxury dog and cat boarding, and additional parking.
Did you know that accreditation for animal hospitals is voluntary? Surprising, isn't it? Nearly 60 percent of pet owners believe that their pet's veterinary hospital is accredited when it is not. In actuality, only 12-15% of animal hospitals have gone through the accreditation evaluation process by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).

Very nice facility, excellent staff all around and Dr. McGinty is simply amazing. He has been going above and beyond to help us figure out what is going on with our Emma. He's very invested in our pup who is currently hanging between 2 diagnosis, fungal infection or sadly, cancer. Words can't describe how grateful we are for all the time he has spent on us for tests and personally calling us with updates and to help talk us through options.
I wouldn't be surprised to find out he's also sacrificed some of his personal time checking up on test results for our dog. I'd recommend this facility and more importantly this very kind and compassionate vet to anyone. That being said, he is the only vet I have met in this practice. I am sure the others are just as great.

My dog was not feelings good vet told me it's was virus. Gave her antibiotic injection for the fever. Anti-inflammatory.injection.nausea injection. was Friday she die on Sunday. Luna was a blue Pomeranian. Never was sick never had any health problems. And she was only 6 years old . This picture was taken at the vet on Friday

I take both of my cats here for general care/check-ups/emergencies. Dr. Saunders is super nice and is very sweet to my kitties. I've had other doctors take care of my cats when she is not available, and they are all very nice too! The receptionists are so polite, they open the door for me when I leave because one of my cats is kind of heavy. They really care about my pets and make sure to explain very thoroughly how and when to give medicine to my cats when they're sick. I love this place. It's very clean and bright. No bad pet smells unlike other pet hospitals. I definitely recommend taking your pets here.

I'm actually more grateful for Dr. McGinty and his colleagues at Petersen Pet Hospital than I am for my own people doctor. They never rush my appointments, they're always gentle and loving with my beasts, and they consistently check on my dogs' progress when I've taken them in for some illness. On top of all that, they always think my fur kids are terrific, even when when they have to get on the floor for exams because my dogs are so freaked by the exam tables. I'm so grateful I found them when I moved to Cedar Rapids five years ago!

We always have such a good experience at Petersen Pet Hospital. All four of the vets on staff and the vet techs are extremely professional and kind. They give a personal touch and remember things you've told them, even if it's been six months to a year since they've seen you! We know our pup and our two kitties are in such good hands when we take them here! Highly recommend!
