Blue Ribbon Kennels is a full-time training, boarding and breeding facility. We customize our training program to meet the specific developmental needs, abilities, and progress of each retriever while keeping the owners expectations in mind. Duck dogs have two basic desires greater than almost all others: the desire to please, and the desire to hunt. There is no joy for them like that of helping you on the hunt, using its senses to get all the information about your quarry, then retrieve it for you.
Services
Blue Ribbon Kennels is indeed a kennel set apart from others. After the initial evaluation of each dog, a special training regimen designed to meet his or her needs is prescribed. One on one instruction permits a close relationship between the trainer and dog. Achievements as well as failures are shared along the way.
From childhood onwards we are taught a great deal that is wrong about the psychology of animals. In fables, fairy-tales, and stories describing animal life and behavior we are often presented with living beings that think, understand human speech and perform moral or immoral acts. If we adopt these anthropomorphic views we shall be at a disadvantage whenever we try to train animals of any kind, but particularly when we are dealing with dogs. The dog most closely resembles man in his emotional and instinctive reflexes.
Blue Ribbon Kennels is a comprehensive kennel and we take pride in each aspect of our business. We provide an exceptional atmosphere for all dogs in our care. Each client and their dog are treated on an individual basis and receive one-on-one attention and interaction. The kennels are located on 30 gorgeous acres just outside Jackson.
Our Clients are encouraged to actively participate in the training sessions throughout the duration of the training cycle. The training process is not complete until our clients can effectively handle their dogs. Puppies are accepted as early as 4 months of age, and any age after. We have successfully trained many older dogs, proving that you can teach old dog new tricks. We start off working on heeling, getting the dog to walk comfortably by your side without pulling, jumping, or sniffing the ground.

Amazing. Really amazing. Our puppy is very smart, but she was rather bad. (Not house trained, not leash trained, chewed, jumped) We picked her up after 30 days in Blue Ribbons Obedience Program, and she is a changed dog! Still her happy self(this was important to us- we didn't want her to come back skittish or weary and she is not), but she is leash trained, sits, heels, will lay down, and hasn't chewed or pead in the house since we got her back! Really- we are impressed bc she was a total handful. I wish I could post videos- it really is amazing how far she has come.tail wagging the whole way:)

My one year old German Shepherd has spent the last month at Blue Ribbon Kennels. Already a I see a big difference. Finally, walking with her is enjoyable because she no longer pulls me, and she is not distracted as easily. The owners were honest in their assessment of Grace's needs as well as in giving me tips on getting control of Grace. Watching them work with her, I better understand that proper discipline is needed and must be consistent. They have assured me that they will go so far as to come to my house if I need them. I definitely plan to continue boarding and training Grace at Blue Ribbon Kennels.

Our rescued dog was very disobedient, stubborn, and timid prior to her training at Blue Ribbon Kennels. While she is still shy, she is so much better and now that she is trained, it is so much easier to expound upon her current training and keep her trained. Both she and others are safer after her time there! The only thing that concerned me were some small sores on her boney areas (she has short hair) from the concrete.
While cots for the dogs to prevent this are available, for whatever reason she preferred to lay on the concrete. At Blue Ribbon they did apply some foul tasting ointment in order to keep her from infecting her sores and allow them to heal. Once home they healed quickly after a little trip to the vet and some other medication. All in all, wonderful training and wonderful people.
