Greyhound Pets of America/Greater Orlando is a 501c3 non-profit corporation founded in 1996 as a chapter of the National Greyhound Pets of America organization. Our purpose is to find homes for ex-racing Greyhounds and to educate the public on the suitability and availability of Greyhounds as pets. The GPA office and adoption kennel are located in Longwood, Florida.
Our programs depend on donations to accomplish our wonderful mission. All funds directly benefit the Greyhounds in our care and our organization is solely comprised of volunteers.

Services
These ex-athletes that are bred for speed, health, intelligence, and social ability make excellent house pets. Because they have been in bustling kennels and a racing environment that requires extensive handling, they crave human company. As pet owners, we don't care about speed, but the breed's gentle, loving personality makes it a compatible family member for those with older children, cats and other dogs. But remember, no dog likes to be scared or tormented by small children. Do you have a gender preference?

Don't waste your time. The fostering parent is very lazy as if your bothering him/her with your inquiry. I had an interest in one of the Greyhounds in the picture shown, but it looked a little sickly like it was underweight. The description of the dog I was interested in says "She needs some extra groceries but we are getting her filled in" and when I inquired about this, the robotic person answered in a condescending way and lacked any sort of effort to address my concern.
Similar to the other reviewers, the robotic person gave me a robotic response "You should research the breed to become knowledgeable" and avoided my question entirely. I suspect that this robotic person is quite lazy and I bothered him/her and there is zero interest in adopting out the advertised Greyhounds. I imagine these Greyhounds at this place get very minimal exercise and poor quality food. Avoid this Greyhound foster parent and go to a breeder or a different foster parent if you want a Greyhound and want to have an intelligent conversation.

They are way too biased against people who haven't owned greyhounds before. Way too strict on who can qualify to adopt, wont even let you adopt if you work a full time job for example. Adoption process carries out for MONTHS. I suggest looking elsewhere if you're interested in adopting these great dogs.

I was extremely excited about adopting a greyhound after years of wanting to. When I finally go in touch with someone after several weeks of trying, it was via a cellphone that I'm assuming they shouldn't have given out to me-she was busy and called back later on. She seemed upset understandably, but then proved to be difficult and dismissed any suggestions or options I gave and then told me that I was not a good fit for greyhound adoption. If everyone has this much fun trying to help, it's no wonder that they have so many they can't place.

Just adopted our first Greyhound yesterday! Very impressed by the professionalism and dedication of Greyhound Pets of America (Orlando Chapter). It is humbling to see the amount of work and sacrifice that the volunteers put forth into every single Grey to make sure that they are being adopted by the right family. Facilities are very clean and the hounds are extremely well cared for. Ms. Joann Harris is truly the "Greyhound Whisperer of Central Florida".
She possesses a wealth of information unsurpassed by anyone. If you are thinking of adopting a Grey, do not hesitate to visit Greyhound Pets of America. Your life will truly be changed for the best.
