I was referred to Vanaken by a friend of mine who had used their services before. They took wonderful care of my dog. The place was immaculate, and the vet is really caring.

I would say the care is good, the front receptionist is very sweet and nice. But, if you are careful about the price-you'll need to make sure you are clear with them. The vet added a procedure that costed an extra $50 bucks. Thankfully I had the money, but if I didn't it would have been a huge issue.

Called them to ask them how much war mite treatment costs. They refused to answer and said it would be diagnosing the animal if they did. I explained how I'm a woman with disabilities and don't want to be taken advantage of. The manager whose name is Tony said that he doesn't want my service and said how dare I to accuse them of doing an act like a car shop would.
I'm going to escalate this to the City of Phoenix Equal Opportunity Division and the Attorney Generals office. I was denied service because I'm disabled and based on several research and studies to show that people with disabilities are taken advantage of by businesses in this way, I'm within my legal right to ask a question with an answer of a service cost to make sure I'm not being discriminated against.

They spayed two of my rabbits and it was really affordable, best price out of all of the vets I looked at. I got two vaccines as well which is nice because I heard there were only three vets in AZ that have the RHDV vaccine, but they had it too. My bunnies are recovering ok. I was able to call late at night to ask questions and the vet helped me. The woman at the front desk was very sweet and helpful too. The area was a little scary to drive to but worth it for the price. A rabbit rescue recommended them to me and I'm happy I listened.

It's not greatest place, but it's the cheapest from all the other places I've gone to. All the other Vets are trying to get rich off of us poor people that can't work and bearly making off of our disability checks every month. Van Aken Pet Hospital is very reasonable and I can vouch for that. I don't like the doctor at all. But it's cheaper to put up with her for just a few minutes of her whining.

My Experience At This Vet Clinic was just awful my boyfriend and I were waiting for ALMOST 3 Hours We had waited outside as usually bc it's get crowded inside. Around 2:10 the lady came out and called others dogs names and we had asked if our dogs names were called "She Said no" no around 3:45pm we finally went inside and we asked them again did you guys call our names there like yeah forever ago but didn't tell us we were waiting outside IN THE FRONT WINDOW! I will not be going back to this Vet I don't like the service.

I took my 18 month old cat to have him fixed about 2 months ago. That was the last time I saw him alive. We were told he possibly had a heart attack and he wasn't taking sedation. Then they tried selling me $180 cremation. I would think if there were problems sedating then it's a no go, you shouldn't try to operate. I hope next time they just stop and call the owner explaining why they couldn't operate instead of calling to tell them the animal is no longer alive. R.I.P. Sherbet. I miss you buddy!

The people at the counter were very sweet. But the actual vet I got was very rude and condescending. I was holding my phone in my hand (not on as I read the sign on the wall) and she scolded me to turn it off when it already was. My mom can't speak English so I was translating and she thought it would be a good idea to talk slowly/ loudly and rude to her as if she was child.
Nothing against anyone else just that veterinarian. Although we couldn't pay for all the things they were asking right then and there, she began to tell us how we were bad for not getting it all done. Would not go back. The doctor was Johnsen.

I'm giving this place (4) stars because parking sucks! this place is located on a busy street Indian School (and 39TH Ave) the building itself looks rundown and if it's the 1st time visiting you'll miss it cause again parking sucks. The ladies inside where very helpful this was our 1st time visiting this vet and everything went smoothly.

I brought my 9 yr old cat to Van Aken/Dr. Johnson when she began losing weight rapidly and vomiting. Dr. Johnson spent about 2 minutes looking at her and said the problem was a cavity. She performed oral surgery 3 days later and sent her home covered in pee and diahrea. The same symptoms continued so i called the next morning and was told to wait 24 hours. the next day they were closed.
Finally they would see her again four days after the surgery. Dr. Johnson said she had no idea what the problem is and kept her for observation. a week later she said she wanted to run 450 dollars more worth of tests because she wanted a specialist. I had already paid close to 700$ and asked if I could pay the 450 on my next pay day (2 weeks). she said no.
She told me to pick her up Saturday (in 2 more days) and force feed her until I could pay up. My poor baby was put to sleep the next day for liver failure. I have since looked up the symptoms on the internet and found they are very common and with early detection and proper care she had a 90% chance of survival. But with the time Dr. Johnson waited, the unnessary pain and hardship of the wrong surgery performed, poor diagnosis, and wrong treatment, my kitties chances dropped to below 5%.
My poor baby was put through hell before she died. And now they are coldly calling me to come in and pay for the cost of putting her to sleep. My baby girl lost her life and went through added pain because I chose to take her to this Van Aken Pet Hospital. I am so sorry I made this mistake and I hope none of you make the mistake of taking your babies here. I wish so much I had read these reviews before subjecting my poor jezebel to this pain and suffering. I am so sorry Jez
