We got our puppy from AARF back in December, but I realize I never left a review! The AARF will always hold a special place in our hearts as they gave us our fur baby, Willy Nelson! We found the litter online with pet-finder, filled out an application and decided to go for the drop in visit. All the staff and volunteers were so wonderful. We actually stayed much longer than expected, visiting with the litter's mother [Maybelline], the other dogs who were waiting to be homed and speaking with the all fosters/workers.
They were all so kind and honest, we really felt like we were making the right decision. They asked us a lot of questions as well, but this makes the most sense, of course, as they need to place the pups in suiting homes. Joyce who was our main person of contact was so helpful throughout the entire process. She told us everything we needed to know and do, and let us know that we could call her any time for any concerns we may have had. Willy came with a voucher to be neutered, many toys from his foster mama and was fully crate trained at 9 weeks old - he has never pooped in our house, not even once! Haha Our baby boy [big baby boy now lol - 8 months old] is so loved and he wouldn't have been apart of our family if it wasn't for the AARF! They say you can't buy happiness, but you sure can adopt it;

Went to adopt a pet after we were told we were approved. Once we got there, and found a pet, we were told very loudly and rudely that we couldn't adopt because our other pet is not spayed. (They had just spoken with our vet, and our vet called us to let us know) I understand rules are rules, but there is a way to get a message across without being extremely rude. I will be looking elsewhere, and will advise everyone else I know to do so.

Our family tried to adopt a cat but wouldn't let us because we had a kid under 5 in the household. Don't really understand why that matters the kids are my responsibility along with animals not their place to tell me otherwise. However it is okay we went to Forsyth Humane Society and found the perfect kitten for our children and family.

I recently applied for a dog and instantly got denied because my first dog wasn't spayed. I explained why. No we didn't mate her and didn't plan on it. I was 15 and it was everyone's first dog. So I guess they punish everyone who's never had their dog spayed/neutered. Instead of asking and learning our story. So that a dog can get out of the shelter and go to a loving home.
I see why people go to breeders and not shelters. I emailed Joyce back and explained everything and never got a reply back. I googled this shelter and after reading the comments I wouldn't want to do business and I feel bad for the dogs that aren't lucky enough to get adopted out because they have a bias against a certain group of people. Seems as though they have an issue with people of color. This place needs to do better. The goal is to save and put these animals in better places/homes. No good comes from people who are privileged.

So glad I chose this facility to adopt my new fur baby! I found Ella on Petfinder and even though I had to drive 2 hours to get her it was completely worth it. AARF is so professional and well-run, and they obviously care for their animals. I filled out an application for Ella on their website and received a phone call confirmation less than 48 hours later.
We arranged a time later that week to meet her; the whole process was so smooth. We were taken into a room where we got to meet with and interact with Ella to make sure she was the right fit for us. It didn't take long for me to know she was coming home with us and after we took care of the paperwork we were given an adorable hand-decorated goody bag with her vet records and a bunch of toys/treats/etc.! Ella's description on Petfinder was very accurate: sweet, cuddly, and super playful!
She was already spayed, litter-trained, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. It's been less than 48 hours and she's already such a lap-cat (exactly what I was looking for)! She follows us around the room and likes to sit next to me on the couch. Thank you so much, AARF, for all your hard work and dedication, and thank you above all else for my new best friend! P.S.
While we were there we also met a very sweet cat named Dexter! Unfortunately our hearts were already set on Ella, but if you're looking to adopt from AARF you should definitely consider him since he was a sweetie.

AARF gave me my best friend and second fur baby! We adopted her about a year and a half ago when she was about 6 weeks old. Her foster mom was amazing and cared for her so well (she even cried a little when I took the dog home). From my experience AARF was an amazing animal rescue and I couldn't be more thankful to them. They gave the pups all the medical care, food, love, and attention they needed until they could find their forever homes.
