My vet recommended our husky get shaved due to foxtails. This was one of the only places that was available and would do it, even with vet approval. I asked for her to be shaved so that her fur was 1/2 or more. I asked for her to be shaved up to her collar. She was shaved down to her skin, mm in length, and she was shaved up to her ears. I had a detailed conversation when I dropped my dog off, and even called back, left a voicemail, with additional instructions.
I was very clear. They groomed her how they wanted, not what I asked for. Husky coats regulate how cold they are, and also how hot. The flagrant disregard for this & my instructions directly affects my dogs well being. In the middle of summer no less. I'm pissed. We will not be going back.

This review is for the self- service wash. I was trying to decide between 2 and 3 stars. Ultimately this is still easier than bathing my dog at home, so I went with 3. Pros: It's nice to have a tub at waist level, and the front desk employees are nice. Cons: It has gone downhill since new ownership took over. The bathing supplies are chintzy- watered down shampoo and conditioner, crappy micro-fiber towels that don't really do well at drying.
No plastic chair or hook to place a purse or jacket. Dirtier than before. Recently one of the sinks didn't have hot water. As an aside, I used to bring my dog in for grooming, a year ago and prior, and was very happy with the groomer. I brought him in to see the new groomer and was not happy. As others have mentioned, my dog barely looked like he was groomed at all. The groomer said she preferred the scruffy look. Okay.but I'm paying for a shorter cut and did pay $50 for basically nothing. I would not recommend the groomer.

The do it yourself dog wash looks great. Two people washing and drying their dogs in large tubs. I came in for nail trim and face trim. The groomer (our regular guy left, now at another 'salon' ), trimmed fur between the toes, quickly smoothed the sharp edges of the nails, (not a trim at all). Disciplined her own slightly growling dog who was in the room and tossed it into the nearby empty tub.
The face trim? She trimmed the eyebrows. I asked about the nose and muzzle trim - she combed the fur, said she likes the "donut cut" like she has on her own little dog - and left it as it was. She likes that cut. After several years as a customer, I won't return.

I've washed my own dog in Shampoochez' self-service dog wash a few times, and it's a great place. Today, I took my friend's dog (a terrier who'd never had a cut and wash) there and was absolutely dazzled by the incredible grooming job Ashley did. The poor dog's hair was thickly matted, and it must've been a grueling job to shave him into the gorgeous, silvery, soft coat he ended up with. Ashley showed us the matted hair from one of his legs, and it looked like a wig that would've covered one person's whole head.
You could tell this dog felt way better than he ever had before. Ashley is super compassionate; she was concerned because the dog was nervous during her care, but she worked magic. And did so for a very reasonable price. She changed this dog's life for the better! Shampoochez gives you personalized, caring service and is a very special place to go for grooming.

Shampoochez is the best! I've taken my dog, Jack, there for the self dog wash many times over the years. They are always so friendly and helpful. I haven't been in since the new owners bought it but I'm sure it's as great as it ever was. All you have to do is bring your shampoo and they provide the rest! They even provide an apron for you to wear.
The tubs are raised so you don't have to bend over and hurt your back. They will help you get your dog up the ramp into the tub if you need assistance. All it took for Jack was for one of the staff to bring over a treat and he followed that treat right up the ramp! I recently decided to bathe Jack at home just to save a little bit. It only costs about $17.
They give you about 15-20 minutes at $17 and then every minute after that they charge you. I have never gone over! So I did it at home and damn! My lower back was killing me from bending over. (Jack is a big guy, he's about 70 lbs and tall.) Not only did my back hurt, I had a lot of clean up afterwards. So although I didn't save money, I think it's totally worth it to go to bathe him at Shampoochez. Between those raised beds and not having to clean up, it is definitely worth it!

Clean and great, easy to access tubs for your best friend. The love all the staff has for our family is shown and felt on each visit. A special place where you can pick-up dog supplies and food at the same time. Maria had an itch which she scratched a lot. Ellen offered a conditioner that you leave on and relieved her. The treatment that I and my service dog gets here is more than special. Thank-you Ellen.

I've used Shampoochez for several years. Always convenient but the ne owners have made huge improvements--especially in customer service and maintenance. It is, without any doubt, the best place to get your best pal clean. Great staff, the time you need to wash your pup, and awesome water pressure--especially important for double coat dogs like a German Shepherd. They're the best, period.

LOVE this place! They are family to me. I've been coming here for so many years I've lost count, but it's been at least 4 dogs over the years. Best place to wash big dogs to save one's back. Tubs at a perfect height with ramps. Great products to shop afterwards. Staff are very knowledgeable & super friendly. Just started using grooming service with new small fluffy puppy & they took great care of her. They always have treats for the pups after the bath so they will love to come back. So happy & grateful they are a mainstay in Santa Cruz all these years.

The perfect place to give the puppy a wash and a dry after playing at ITS Beach! Terri is the sweet lady who helped us- we had a great experience. Good price too, I think it's $16 for the wash and blow dry, and that includes shampoo if it's your first time there. When we come back to Santa Cruz with the puppy, we will be back!

We've been to the dog wash 3 times. Each time there's been a different person and they have all been very kind and nice. With lots of weather and dogs bouncing off the walls today we contrived a plan to exercise the dogs. Planning ahead we researched hours of operation which indicate the store closes at 5:30pm. So we planned accordingly a long trip to the dog park. Arriving at the store at 4:51 pm we were turned away, told the baths were already put up.
The woman pointed at a sign with a time hand written in saying the last dog allowed in the tubs was 4:45 pm. They then kindly said, sorry - tomorrow. she turned around and we left. Very disappointed.

So me and tank ( a 137 pound American bulldog) found this diamond in the ruff. I needed to wash tank after he got in to some mud and crud. I was greeted by the counter Pearson who could not have been nicer and more helpful if she Tried. She took time out to show me all the workings from tub controls, towels, leashes for in tub use, all the way to blow dryers and brushes for your pet.
I had looked online so I knew to bring my pet shampoo but if you forget it's ok they sale it there to. Tank didn't want to use the ramp to get in the tub and they where quick to offer treats to get him motivated. Every one there seemed to be very friendly and gave it a family like feeling! I will bring my kiddos back when it's time for there next bath. Thanks Shampoochez!

New owners as of Aug. 2018. No offense to the former owners but it is even better than before. Great place to give your dog a wash--much better than at-home and cheaper than a groomer. The ramps and warm water make it very easy. My dog HATES baths but he loves playing with skunks and rolling in dead animals at the beach so I go there frequently. Bring your own shampoo/conditioner or you can buy some there. They supply you with towels, brush and a powerful dryer, as well as the tub and ramps. New owners are nice and helpful.

New ownership. loved the previous groomer, the new groomer was nice too. It used to take months to get an appointment but a month ago I was able to get an appointment within a week. The prices have gone up, I think I paid about $15 dollars more than under the previous owner. Overall a nice local business.
