Kansas City Veterinary Care, conveniently located in Waldo, provides veterinary care to cats and dogs, as well as many different types of exotic animals, including birds, reptiles, ferrets, and rabbits. We believe in improving lives and strengthening the human-animal bond through high quality, comprehensive, compassionate care. Bad breath, lack of appetite, or in more severe cases, bleeding, can all be due to severe dental disease. We are pleased to offer our quality veterinary medical and surgical care for furry, feathered and scaly exotic pets.
Services
All of our receptionists, technicians, kennel attendants, and office staff have received extensive training in customer service and are extremely dedicated to the well-being of animals. Our doctor staff now numbers seven and has over 100 years of combined experience in veterinary medicine. Candace Dietrich grew up in Fort Scott, Kansas, where she began her career in veterinary medicine working as a kennel attendant at a local veterinary clinic. She then went to Veterinary Technician school in Colby, Kansas where she earned her RVT degree in 2006.
Kansas City Veterinary Care offers a wide array of veterinary services, including wellness examinations, treatment of sick animals, a variety of surgical procedures (including spaying, neutering and orthopedic surgeries), dental care and parasite control. We also offer wellness exams specifically tailored to older animals as well as exotic pets.
The most important part of preventive health care for pets is the wellness examination. Wellness exams, performed annually, are by far the most effective means of maintaining your pet's health. Identifying and treating medical problems early is much less stressful to your pet and less expensive for you.
5 to 7 years for every one of our human years? Some people fail to realize that since pets age much faster than we do, they can be considered "senior citizens" when the age of 7 is reached. As pets age certain changes are often apparent. Older pets commonly start to show signs of vision and hearing loss, behavioral problems, dental problems, arthritis, constipation and obesity.

Dr. Exline was great with trimming my rabbits teeth, she is back to eating everything in site! He called before and after her light sedation, treatment and pain relief and was very caring, skilled and thorough. I highly recommend Dr. Exline and I will use them again as it can be difficult finding small animal/exotics veterinarians.

We took our little bird, Mulan, in too see Dr Exline. There are not enough kind words to describe our experience. The office was just like coming home. Dr Exline was so tender with our little bundle of feathers. He was very thorough in his examination. He took time to answer every question. Our bird seemed very comfortable in his care. That was so important. 5 stars aren't enough. Both my sister and I were amazed. We will definitely be back. The staff was incredible too.

I have reviewed very few businesses negatively in the past, have never used profanities, and always strive to be fair when I do so. While KCVC has historically suffered from a front desk / vet tech staff that tends to be subpar (unlike the vets who are good), it would appear that during the pandemic they have downgraded even further the quality of their recruits.
My (half blind) senior dog was refused care by a vet tech on Monday 11 April 2022 at 09:00AM because he barked at her when she came into our room, after we had been waiting for 20 minutes. She was quick to refuse to even look at him, or muzzle him like I requested twice throughout our presence there, or give him a chance to calm down; and wanted to drug him overnight before having us come back the next day.
At the time we came in I thought he just looked uncomfortable, and needed a routine procedure done. As it turned out when I was finally able to get him to be seen elsewhere (without any issues), he was suffering from an urgent condition that required immediate medical attention: he was barking because he was in distress and in a lot of pain. If you love your special needs furries, KCVC will disappoint.
I do not write this solely because of our experience there, but because some of their essential support staff is unable to show any basic compassion towards animals; and will send the parent away when we try to advocate for their wellbeing. To the vet tech who came in to see us that day: a vet practice might not be the best fit for you if you are afraid of a barking senior dog; if your hostile attitude furthers their anxiety (and that of their humans/parents); and if you are unable/unwilling to perform the most humane basics of your job description.

Rebel went to the vet today for a green, snotty nose He got some antibiotics and should be just fine. They were able to get us a same day appointment, which I didn't expect. I just wanted to take a moment to thank the staff and especially Dr. Erdozain. He was the first vet who cared for our first dog and her weird stomach problems and has been super caring any time we have to make a visit.
I really wanted a vet closer to home and did try out 2 other vets only to be disappointed, but I have made the decision to have KC Vet Care as our only vet regardless of the 25 min drive. They're reasonable with prices and honestly, you can't beat the level of care they provide.

One of the only places in KC to deal with rats. My little man had a foot injury. I called one day not expecting to get on for atleast a few days. They literally set me up same day only a few hours after my call. Got my rat looked at and he's doing great now. Back good normal ratty self. I would recommend this place to anyone who has exotic animals. The staff was pleasant and we got everything taken care of in a very timely manner.

I have been to several vets over the years, and this is hands down the best one in Kansas City. I have seen both Dr. Melling and Dr. Erdozain and they have gone above and beyond with the care of my pets. They are knowledgeable, compassionate, and extremely kind. They have both shown a level of concern and care for my pets that I have never experienced anywhere else. The rest of their support team are also always on point and make sure every visit is a good one.

We have been coming here for our two (formerly three) cats for several years. Dr. Kirkwood has been our pets' main vet and she has been fantastic. She takes time to really connect with the animals and is willing to go the extra mile when it comes to the humans. She is caring and skilled. The other staff we have dealt with have all been excellent as well. Prices have always been reasonable and they are very responsive.
