Greyhounds are clean, quiet and docile. Most are fine living with other canine breeds and many get along well with cats. Retired racers make wonderful household pets and companions but they are strictly inside pets. They make excellent walking companions and most are great with well behaved children. Like any 2 year old, colt has a lot of energy. His favorite thing to do is meet people.
He does not like to be alone but does okay a few minutes after you leave him. He is very food motivated and will likely require some kind of slow feeder as he can finish a cup of food in seconds (if you let him).

GPA-Louisville is a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer organization which relies entirely on donations and gifts from people like you and organization which support our efforts. Greyhound Pets of America (GPA) is neutral on the subject of the Greyhound racing industry. Our goal is to find responsible, loving homes for racing greyhounds who no longer qualify to compete at the racetrack.
There are sixteen recognized coat colors for Greyhounds, as seen in the official color chart of the American Greyhound Track Operators Association at A Breed Apart. Racing Greyhounds in the U.S. are not AKC dogs; they are registered by the National Greyhound Association. Show Greyhounds are registered by the AKC, but they are relatively rare.
Please be sure to read our "Are You Ready" page and then check out our Adoption Application process. Please submit the application via email or regular mail. There is no fee to submit the application. The adoption fee is currently $300, which includes spay/neuter, updated shots, a leash and collar, and will have flea and heart-worm medicine for the month.
Please take a moment and review these list of questions to ask yourself prior to submitting your application. Is it for myself, for the kids or to replace a deceased canine cherished by the whole family? It is important to be sure not only that your reasons are sound and not motivated by whimsy or impulse, but that your expectations of greyhound ownership are reasonable.

Our experience with GPA-Louisville was amazing! They listened to what we needed in our future greyhound and helped to pair us with the best mach. The GPA-Louisville community has also been extraordinary! In addition to getting the perfect pup, you get a community that becomes like family! I couldn't recommend GPA-Louisville more!

My family is a foster family for this group and they are always so supportive and helpful any time I reach out. They screen families carefully so that the dogs go to a good home and after the dogs go to their new family, they offer so much advice and support. I love this group and would highly recommend them!
