Walk This Way opened for business in Manhattan and Brooklyn in 1999, and moved upstate in the spring of 2019. We use positive-reinforcement, reward based methods first and primarily, but also understand that no two dogs are the same and there is no one "right" approach for everyone. To give each individual dog and owner what they need, we offer a balanced approach.
Walk This Way is owned and operated by Renee Payne, CPDT-KA. Renee graduated from the Animal Behavior Center of New York, is a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, has been certified by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers since their inception in 2001, and is a certified tester for the AKC's Canine Good Citizen Program.

Services
We offer private lessons that are tailored to suit your needs and your schedule. Sessions can be in your home, or if appropriate for the issue you're having, outdoors in a mutually convenient location. Sessions can be used to address behavior problems like aggression or anxiety, to set your home up for your new puppy, to teach basic training obedience/manners, or to do something fun like scent games or tricks.
We've been offering virtual training since 2015 -- long before it became the norm! Zoom sessions are a convenient and easy way for you to meet with a trainer from the comfort of your home, and works wonderfully for basic obedience, separation anxiety, tricks or scent work. We do not address aggression issues virtually. These sessions are priced at *$50 per half hour or $95 for an hour, and we can accommodate you seven days a week.
It has become increasingly difficult to discern between who has a real need (and a letter from a real doctor), versus someone who just wants to claim service dog status to fly or otherwise travel with their dog. We have dealt with clients who barely get started with training before asking us to supply them with a letter for an airline (we don't).
Walk This Way does not offer Therapy Dog Training, but Renee is the Director of Training for The Good Dog Foundation and highly recommends them! If you think that your dog has what it takes, you can fill out an application here. Dogs MUST be friendly to all humans and comfortably tolerate the presence of other dogs to be evaluated into a therapy dog class.
