Services
Since 1992, I have had the honor and privilege of being able to help the people of Sanford and Southern York County care for their pets. I strive to treat every client and patient with the due diligence and respect that I afford my own family and pets. I also expect nothing less from my staff. I enjoy all aspects of the general practice of veterinary medicine and surgery and find it most rewarding that being a veterinarian allows me to combine the great human invention of science with the great human virtue of compassion.
At the DMVC preventing illness in pets is our primary mission. We recommend that all cats and dogs receive a comprehensive exam annually and get the core vaccines recommended by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Each patient's individual lifestyle is taken into account and other, non-core, vaccines may be recommended based only upon that lifestyle.

Friendly, prompt service: Our staff will treat you and your pets with courtesy and respect. An evidence-based approach to pet care: We endeavor to provide a standard of care that is based on science, evidence and the recommendations of the AVMA, AAHA and AAFP. An emphasis on preventive care: An ounce of prevention is literally worth a pound of cure when it comes to our pets.

They are very knowledgeable and have always offered me options and opinions. Staff has always been professional and personable. They have all been very good with my 3 huskies and will always get them in within a reasonable time frame. Trust me, with 3 huskies I am there a lot! I feel like they care about my pets as much as I do. I would not take them to any other vets because I know I already have the BEST care possible. Dr. Knickerson is my favorite. shhh!

Everyone at Down Maine Vets is so friendly and caring. They all know my dog and he absolutely loves seeing them all. He lives hard, so he hurts himself a lot, but he's still all smiles and kisses and tail-wags when we go. The doctors are all top-tier professionals, and at the same time they so obviously love animals. I've never taken him anywhere else, so I can't really compare prices, but I am always pleasantly surprised that the bill is less than I would have imagined. I really can't recommend them highly enough. They're wonderful.

Dr. Harmon is an amazing Veterinarian. He takes the time to get to know the animal, treat them and explain what is best for them. He doesn't make you feel rushed, that in itself is great, since you are most likely already stressed. Even though we moved over a 1/2 away I will not switch doctors. They have a great team! Thank you!

Down Maine has been our vet for over 10 years now, and they have given the utmost care to our cats. They have seen us through the hard times of aging and senior cat care, the good times of check-ups for newly adopted kittens. Most recently, they saved the life of our loved one, through emergency surgery due to eating some string. They were caring, supportive, and always took my call, even after hours, to alleviate my worries. Oh, and for all you dog lovers, they are also taking care of my father's black lab with epilepsy!
It is amazing to see him jumping around like a puppy, given his age and condition, and I credit Down Maine for this. I can't say enough about them, and would highly recommend them to anyone seeking veterinary care.

So I brought my male rabbit for an initial exam (3) minutes literally to be told he's a male for $65 dollars! Then the whole point of the appointment was to schedule him to be neutered. The assistant never offered any information, I had to ask how to go about the fixing and I was told just call, then when I asked how much it would cost I was told an additional $250-$300 to fix a male rabbit?!?!
But yet all my bunnies are fixed now thanks to Gray animal center all 4 for under what down Maine wanted for 1. Not good business and the prices were even worse for my dog I brought there. I'm sorry I never write bad reviews but I was blown away. Lower your prices you're not as good as you think you are.

All of the Doctors and staff at Down Maine are exceptional, they truly care about your pets as if they are their own. My cat Moxie required surgery and they were quick to get him in, fixed up, and sent him home with medication to keep him comfortable. They took extra time to make sure my dog Tucker was comfortable even though he absolutely hates going to the vet, they worked with him and tried to make it a positive experience for him. We will continue going to and refer anyone looking for pet care to Down Maine going forward!

I just moved to the area and loved my vet back home so I was anxious about finding a new one. Well, I can say I love my new vet too! Everyone was super friendly and treated my animals as their own. The vet actually catered to what was best for my animals, as in she did the exam for my dog away from me (he is protective of me and does better alone) and did the exam for my cat in front of me (he needed the extra support from his mama!). I was super impressed as my old vet didn't give me a choice or collaborate with me on the decision. I'm so glad to find a reliable and caring place to bring my babies!

Very clean facility! From the moment I walked in I was welcomed with a smile and my little fur ball was treated so well. No one tried to sell me anything I didn't need. Great job explaining from the Vet Julie who I found to be down to earth and ready to listen to my concerns and addressed them all. Very happy with my first visit experience and I would recommend this place!
