Since 1968, Churchland Animal Clinic has been a staple within the Churchland community of Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Donahue started the clinic and when Dr. Yeatts became an associate, the ultimate owner of our private animal clinic, he continued with the traditions of the community. Our clinic has earned a position within the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and has been a member for over 30 years. Churchland Animal Clinc was started in 1968 by Durbin Donahue, VMD. When Churchland was surrounded by farms, he treated both small and large animals, and it was not unusual to find horses and other large "critters" being cared for in our parking area. As the Churchland farms have faded, the era has passed for large animal medicine at Churchland Animal Clinic.
Churchland Animal Clinic provides comprehensive pet wellness services for the Portsmouth pet community. From vaccinations and pet dental care to microchipping and spay/neuter surgery, our Portsmouth veterinarian is passionate about proactive veterinary care. Our wellness care philosophy is simple: preventing illness not only helps your pet live a longer, healthier life, but also reduces the expense of veterinary care. Pet vaccinations and regular exams are the foundation for our wellness care program.

They were right there when I needed them and took care of my pet and did a wonderful job thank them so much everybody around the other places want me to wait for two weeks or more a dog needed attention right now and they gave it to her and she's doing great now stand Thank you church land animal hospital

We have been taking our animals since last year. We moved & they are right down the street from us. Great people! Kind, caring folks. Haley didn't mind that our cat changed her black shirt to white with all the hair! After our last appointment, a lady's car decided to act up as she was trying to leave. The staff came out concerned and asked what was going on. Explained what was happening as myself and a gentleman were trying to get the car going again. Luckily the car was able to move. The staff came out and treated us with water bottles to make sure we were hydrated. Awesome job!

My experience was more than I could have hoped for. Dr. Wassle was the most wonderful person I could have asked for to care for my Cubby. He was so thoughtful and caring, and had the most amazing, happy energy. I am transgender and use they/them pronouns, and when I corrected him, he immediately thought to make a note in cubby's chart to gender me correctly in the future. He made the whole experience comfortable for both myself and my dog! Can't wait to see him again! Thanks Dr. Wassle for an awesome visit!

The staff are always on top of things and do all they can to make visits efficient, especially during Covid. They are responsive to calls and questions and alway have the best interest of the animals and their families in mind. We've been coming for years through five fur babies- I really trust Churchland Animal Clinic!

I didn't have the pleasure of Churchland Animal Clinic long because I took my dog to another vet her whole life, however I had to take her somewhere else and I'm glad I listened to everyone when they recommended this place and should have listened a long time ago. They only got to see her once before I had to put her down, but hands down this place was amazing!
The doctor made me feel at ease and he explained everything to me and was very comforting. That was one of the hardest things I had to do for my love! I recommend Churchland Animal Clinic!

Never got to see vet. Called to become new patient and was told had to pay non-refundable $82 for first exam at the time appt. was made! NEVER have I run into this at a Vet before. Ridiculous unless that's how they turn people away since you can't get in for 2 weeks and you have a sick pet. They lost my business. Only proves what previous reviews said about the money being more important than the pet!

The staff here have always been amazing, very friendly, caring and professional. Never a problem getting an appointment either. I had to have my cat euthanized yesterday and they showed the greatest level of compassion, they even gave us an impression of her paws with her name on a plaque, what a great memento! I never would've thought of that. Thanks for all you do, it makes a difference!
